Hey all! I was just arrested for this same charge in February 05 here in Amherst County, VA while suffering a severe mental health crisis in my moms own yard. I wasn't breaking any law, I was on the phone at the time with a mental health facility. The facility called the police for a "wellness check". I spent the next eight days at Blue Ridge regional jail authority, with no access to further mental help. Why?
😡😓That's CRIMINAL... the way you were treated. It's just WRONG on so many levels. You were punished and abused for trying to get help! California has just implemented a system where you call a different number, not 911, which connects you with a special mental health response unit that comes to your aid.
Far too many people in crisis are subjected to abuse by the police and the system; some have even been KILLED!! It's INHUMANE, CRIMINAL AND INEXCUSABLE AND SO UNNECESSARY!!!
I pray you were ultimately able to get the help you needed and deserved!
