  • In this video we get the build done a Goblin RAW 580 for Andrew. This is just a build over view as we already have a full step by step build series. The RAW 580 is my favorite heli ever made! Both electric and nitro!

    About to dust off my tree Rex 450 thats been sitting in the basement for ten years. Back then I had my eye on a Gaul x5. These 580’s look amazing to fly.

    The Spirit 2 FBL is probably something more similar to iKon. I have never used the Axon but the Spirit worked really well and also has full integration/telemetry with Spektrum.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s what I’ve heard, I have yet to use spirit. Axon is not a bad FBL unit whatsoever! For the scale guys or jeti guys it is perfect. I just personally think they are way over priced for the features you get.

    I think I'll have to get the new Orange Raw 580 they just announced. I would love the Raw 700 KSE, but the extra cost of all the electronics scare Me away. Had Your Raw 420 build video series as company during My Raw 420 build. 🙂

    Getting ready for my own 500 build and had a few questions. 1. When you cleaned the fasteners, was it basically putting them in alcohol and blotting with a paper towel? 2. Book cites Microlube 261 but later the book cites the LDS part number for the yellow tube. Is either ok? 3. I've heard from at least one person just to use yellow LDS for everything, including where it shows to use multi-purpose grease (HA096) which I believe you use the yellow everywhere as well?

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m waiting on a SAB RAW 500 kit then there will be full build series. Yes, I have a small Tupperware dish that I feel with 90% alcohol soak all the screws in it for a few minutes washing them around pull them out on the paper towel let them dry wipe off any excess grease or alcohol so I use microlube 261 for everything, exception of the one-way bearing. Which I venues SAB one-way, bearing grease. But you can use yellow LDS or the multipurpose SAB grease. I just find microlube 261 to be a better grease that sticks and lasts a lot longer without having to redo it.

    Awesome!!! Great job on the build!!
    Question about the mechanical set up on the tail. What are you using to set ur tail pitch when servo is at 90 degrees? And is it the same value for all helis

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! So yes, I set my tail servo to 90 degrees center. Then adjust push rod till I get 2-4 degrees. On smaller heli’s I run 4 degrees on bigger helis 2-3 degrees of positive tail pitch is perfect. What your doing is mechanically set an leverage. As the rotor spins clockwise you’re putting torque on to detail. So the Gyro has to counter the torque harder with the tail set at 90° and zero pitch on the tail. When you add a few degrees of positive right pitch to the tail rotor is mechanically leverages and allows the Gyro to help respond faster and take some of the stress off.

    • @katpis9121
      @katpis9121 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@westhobbiesrc8051 yes makes total sense. I’m gonna do this on my x5, trex 800 and 570 drake. What are you using to measure the pitch on the tail blade?

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว

      So I can look and see as I’ve done it for so long but you can use a pitch gauge or measurement between the Tip of the blades.

    Quick question, is it easy to take out that fabric paint off if need be? I use double sided tape but your idea is starting to look better.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is, it dries almost rubbery. I take an X-Acto knife and cut flat with the servo pins and pick it up and peel it off.

    Great work as always Jeff!! Truly a professional at what you do. What advise do you have for servos on the new PT-19 from Hangar 9? I just bought one from Horizon. It’s a 56.5” wingspan so a decent sized plane but everyone says the servos are crap. I haven’t put it together yet so I don’t know what it has but these production models aren’t known for the best components.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Rob! That’s a great flying plane! Such a great and predictable model. So my personal servo of choice on all my airplanes that use full size servos is the Hitec 645mg or 5645mg. The 645 MG is nondigital the 5645 MG is digital. They are a few dollars apart from each other so that is up to you on which one you would like to go with. I personally have both. Fantastic servo and reliable!

    Hi on my goblin raw 580 when I align the belt motor gear, I leave 1mm up and 1 mm down.
    After i try to turn motor and the alignment moves.
    Why?

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s pretty normal, as the belt will move slightly up/down as it spins. It “walks” on the pulley.

    I’ve flown fixed wings and I race 8th scale off road but I’m super interested in learning to fly helis. Would it be ignorant of me to start off with a quad like this? After hours of sim practice of course. But I really don’t wanna buy a million helis in the process.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051

      Helicopters are the hardest part of this hobby but the most rewarding. The problem with starting off with a helicopter like this is build cost and repair cost. You’re looking at about $2000 to build this helicopter and if you crash minimum of $400 of course depending on the crash. Personally I would recommend starting off with something like a Goosky S2 or OMP Hobby M2. Once you can master orientations and basic flying you can move on to any helicopter you like but definitely don’t recommend starting off with a machine this size. Not only the money but the safety. These things are flying sawblades and can kill and do damage very quickly.
