Jeff this video was super helpful. I’m wondering if there’s settings that need to be edited/changed in the esc’s. Mine has a platinum pro 120…maybe another video?
Thank you! So only thing I changed in the ESC is the BEC voltage. I left everything else the same. But I’m working on a telemetry video and I will go over the ESC setting in that video.
Thank you for all the great videos! After building so many 420's, where do you like to mount the 4651T rx the best? And do you use the supplied antenna mount? Also If using the IKON2, is it necessary to use a USB Remote plugged into the SYS/IO port? I figure the USB port might be hard to plug into if the IKON is mounted wires back. I've got my kit and components on the way, spec'd just like this one. Thanks.
Thank you for watching! I’m glad the videos are helping! I mount the SRXL2 under the Back/elevator servo. I use the supplied antenna mount. Yes, if you mount the iKon the same was I do it is necessary to use the remote USB as getting to the USB port is almost impossible.
Hey Jeff, thanks again for all the work you put in for people like me that are new to the hobby. It's incredibly appreciated. I followed your setup to a T and I'm almost there. I'm just kind of having a funny issue where I haven't actually flown it yet, however when I was bench testing it without blades it seems like idle up 2 is at a lower RPM than normal mode. I set the governor to how you run it on your personal 420. However Idle up 3 sounds like it's higher than normal mode which is to be expected. I have the newer hobbywing program box, are there any settings in there that I should change in regards to the governor on the Hobbywing? Again thank you to all your help I seriously doubt I could of gotten this far without your recommendations and tutorials.

Nice tutorial. Just built my 420 with an iKon and a Futaba TX. When tilting my heli from back to front and left/right, aileron and elevator work fine but my tail servo doesn’t move when I move the tail left or right. The headlock is green but stays in one place unless I move the tail stick to left or right. Any suggestions?
Dear WestHobbiesRC, thank you very much for this amazing FBL setup video. I've already watched your three videos on how to build the SAB Goblin Raw 420 and I'm very impressed. I got my RAW 420 yesterday. I'm not sure which FBL to buy yet and I'm hesitating between the MSH Brain 2 and the Bavarian Demon Axon. I saw at the beginning of this video that you also have a link on your desktop to the Bavarian Demon. Do you also have a video on the setup of the Bavarian Demon Axon? I've heard that the MSH Brain 2 has some problems with vibrations and the rescue doesn't work correctly. Have you had such experiences? What would be your recommendation? Thank you very much and best regards from Munich.
Great video! I’m having an issue. My tail servo is super slow, and when I let off the stick it doesn’t go back to center. Any idea how to fix? I tried a second new servo and same thing. Thanks!
Hey Jeff, What settings did you use on the ESC? Did you leave it on its defaults, or did you change the flight mode to fixed wing or maybe linear helicopter?
Hey David, only thing I change in the ESC is BEC voltage. I leave throttle in stogov I’ve played with all throttle and it’s really up to you on how you want it.
Hey Jeff! what is your recommendation on XT60 vs the propriety connector? If I never plan to use these lipo's on another heli, is there any reason NOT to go the propriety connector?
Hey David, so both connectors are great. I like XT-60 just because I already have charge leads made up. If you plan on never using these lipos on other helis then go with the SAB connector. The only thing I don’t like if I can’t have the battery in the model with out it being powered up with the proprietary connectors. Main reason I went with XT-60.
Hey Jeff i have a question I hope you can answer. When I zero-level my main blade at the tail, i get it at zerp, but then if i move that blade to the front (over the driver/passenger area) i get about 3 or 4 degrees off....is that normal? or does that mean something is not set up right?
Have you setup an Align550x/600 with the Ikon? The reason I ask is because I removed the BeastX from my 550X and installed my first Ikon and I am running into issues with setup. Using the stock Align metal servo arms (21mm ball link hole). I was getting way too much pitch and collective even with the values adjusted down in the Wizard menu. I emailed Ikon support and ended up talking with HD but the only solution was to move the ball link in closer to center which I ended up doing. The only other ball link hole was 18mm from center and that helped with collective but my cyclic at its lowest setting is still 12.5. There is not additional room to move the ball link closer to the center given that align has their ball links on the inside of the arm so it would come in contact with the servo casing; WTH..? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Hey Jeff..you might be the man to solve this ...done the setup by the book and followed every step. everything is correct but my issue is at that the gyro is not moving the swash when i lift and move the model. have done the setup many times, new model in radio etc, still no joy. Ticket raised with MSH. its like the rain 2 has the gyro function disabled. i cant check directions.. logs show all is fine with greens and blue dots. on power up i get 4 bumps of cyclic and solid green led. one flash led for setup 1 mode. any ideas sir? Nice setup video. Are you sure you can't set autolevel into normal mode? That's what I've been using on my SAB Buddy 380 with the Ikon2. It seems to work without issues. Are you saying it's going to mess up one day?
You cannot check the auto level box in set up one. Now if you reverse your switch and you set up three as your “normal” mode yes you could but I highly recommend against it. Question, i've spektrum nx10. When i'm connected to the ikon software pitch and throttle are mixed (only in the software, not on tx).?? So when i'm in hold mode and move the throttle stick pitch is not moving?
Hi Jeff, are you certain the Pulse for rotation, main gear, and tail gear ratios are correct? I'm using a HW 60A and set the end points per instruction manual (full throttle then turn on, get two beeps, then zero throttle for ESC setup). When I spool up the heli to 100%, it quickly accelerates past 4500rmp before I quickly hit throttle cut - it was like it was revving up way too high!
Hello, yes I’m sure. I’ve built and setup 7 RAW 420s all the same way. What’s your throttle curves? Would like it’s going from 0-100. Is it linear? Or flat line?
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Something's not working right. There seems to be no ESC governor. Normal mode when I set up the ESC endpoints is a linear curve 0 25 50 75 100%. Idle up 1 is 70% flat, idle up 2 is 80% flat. Even when I check box the iKon2 governor, when I go to idle up, it spools way past the rpm I set in iKon2 (2800) then slows down to the governed speed. Problem solved!!!
Pitch and throttle are always mixed. As you advance throttle you move pitch as well. What fixed the issue?
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Pitch in spektrum is channel 6, throttle channel 1. In the ikon software was pitch channel 1 and throttle 6.
Hi any reason you never set up your tail gain many thanks
Something seems off.
I recently Build a Raw 420, with Brain2, KST servos and hobbywing platinum 80 ESC. Watched all your RAW420 build videos. Building was a breeze, flew it, all is fine.
One thing I can't figure out, the settings for motor timing and frequency. Has anyone got a idea? Motor runs well on default of the ESC timing 15 (or16) freq 8.
Awesome! I’m glad the videos were helpful and you were able to build no issue. You can leave motor timing at 15 and frequency at eight. There is no reason or need to change them
Thanks! 👍
Is this the iKON2001 FBL?
We got my ikon that changed the numbers fixed lol
That was very weird! Never seen that before. But always a first for everything! Lol
Great!
30:54 do you mean tail pulley?
Yes, tail pulley.
That bird looks familiar
That’s because it is! Lol
Thx for your vids. Outstanding stuff 😉 but one question. How Do you setup the hobbywing. You dont use the governor there right?
first!
Heck yeah! Notifications on!
