    Thanks for this! I purchased one from eBay for a homelab and am concerned about noise. Went ahead and ordered a Noctua for good measure. Cheers.

    Thank you for this video, I recently installed a 2530-24G PoE at home, it has two fans and I just ordered Noctua replacements for them. :-)

      Doing the same with exact same switch right now! How are your fans? :)

      @@NGC1433 they’re still doing fine, i.e. I can’t hear them and switch dashboard tells me they operate normally 🙂👍🏼

    Thank you very much. Excellent video and expanation.
    I confirm that this method worked with my HP 2620-48-PoE+ Network Switch (J9627A).
    I replaced all 3 original fans (AVC DB04028B12U) with Noctua NF-A4x20 PWM (12v).
    The original fans are larger (40x40x28) than the Noctuas (40x40x20), but they friction fit into the existing slots without using any screws.
    Everything works great (no log errors) and the Noctuas are totally silent.

    Thanks for demonstration, regards from Germany :-), i 'll substitute the original fan in a ARUBA 2540-48G-4SFP+ Switch (JL355A) with the NF-A4x20....looking forward to silence..

    Thanks buddy now i know it fits without trying it on my own.. I've got a question.. what firmeware u are you running? 16.x? I got one with 15.6, and there is no way to find the update.. do u have a copy of the firmware?

      @ JL262A, just buy the a4x20 pwm noctua fans (3) and watch youtube to replace

    I have a question for you, I'm interested on one of them to replace my 1400-24g that recently stoped working for the 3rd time(one of the BGA is faulty and need to be reflowed from time to time but it's always putting a band aid on the problem and it's fanless. I supposed my modem underneath was too hot... before it was cooler older modem and it was on top, I've added a fan to help but was too late) so yeah, is it easy to configure and managed?

    @George Hanson, Excellent video plus explanation!
    Quick question: how much Watt does the switch consume? (looking at the model type you have the version that also has POE+ ?)

    • @geohanson
      @geohanson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve just checked, and this version (24Port, Gigabit, Non-PoE) is drawing around 18W with nothing connected.

    Hi, I think the J9782A is a fanless version of the same switch. Not sure how different they are, they have the same CPU and RAM. I am considering getting one. Any thoughts so far ?

      Is the J9782A not 10/100 rather than gigabit?

    Is there a way to regulate the fan speed?
    I got a HP ProCurve 2520G PoE and for the love of god cant find if there is a way to regulate the speed softwere or hardware way.

    • @geohanson
      @geohanson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not as far as I know. I think the fans are fixed speed and not controllable via software. You might be able to use the noctua inline low noise adapter to decrease the speed of the fan.

    Hi i have a Aruba 2920 48poe+ wich comes with 3 fans and a external PSU (HP J9737A) with 1 fan.
    When i replace the 3 fans for the 2920 switch it works fine and no noise.
    When i replaced the 1 fan for the extrernal PSU (HP J9737A) - the PSU boots for 5-10 sek and the switch turns off, the PSU still running tho.
    Any idea whats wrong?
    I tried with both 4 and 3 pin /NF-A40mm Noctua fans 12V
    Its like the PSU messege the switch(2920), that there is some error.

    • @geohanson
      @geohanson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be that the wiring colours for the PSU fan is different that the internal fans? I had this on my Dell R210ii where the internal fans were wired in one colour scheme and the PSU was completely different. If I wired the PSU fan the same as the internal ones it didn’t work.
      If not, then I’m guessing the PSU is detecting that the fan speed is too slow and therefore switching off to prevent overheating.
      They’re not really designed to be quiet and I’d be careful of the heat/temperature if you’re running a lot of PoE devices.

      Thanks for reply.
      I think its becuase of the swtich detect that PSU dont run full fanspeed. Becuse its boots and then shut down.
      Also i think the PSU has intigratet firmwire that ''alarm'' the switch and tells it to turn of.
      Its just funny why the switch keeps running when i replace the internal fans for the switch but not when i replace the eksternel fan for PSU???
      I run like 8 POE devices on the switch and 9 non poe conections. I will keep you updatet if i run in to a meltdown or other thermal problems:)

    • @geohanson
      @geohanson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it will probably work - you just need to be careful that the switch doesn’t get too hot as the Noctua fans won’t move as much air.
