New LUTs out now: bit.ly/JStambaughStore. Fuji friends, I hope you find some useful tips in this video! Any tips for me!? What Fuji content you want to see next?
Literally especially with the advent o the X-T5, the movie optimised control is key. It allows you to separate out the settings for photography to the top dials, and those for video to the front and back dials. If you don't do that - you end up in a real mess constantly having to change things on the top dials. This is especially relevant to setting the shutter speed where in video it is going to be way lower than that for photography. And that is so easy to forget when you switch between photo and movie mode on the switch.
Noooooooooo I hate it 😂😂😂 jk jk honestly that application you just described makes a ton of sense! This is def XT4 & videography specific. As far as hybrid use of the XT5 goes I know nothing but what you just shared is pretty smart.
Do you know if there’s a way to stop the camera from resetting the F,ISO and SS settings every time I reset the camera? I thought I would be able to set the custom slots and save those settings but it just resets when I turn off the camera
I became a Fuji friend in part because of your camera videos way back when! I picked up the X-T4 a year ago and am so happy that I did. So thanks for putting the in-depth Fujifilm content out there! And congrats on 10k subscribers!
Well the part where you were adjusting the camera from 04:24 onwards had amazing colors May i know how you achieved that? Camera, profile, settings etc. Thanks
@@johnstamw Honestly, I can't watch these videos without doing background mental calculations on how much effort was involved in making them. The TH-camrs who are committed to these tutorials clearly enjoy teaching. I am so grateful. Learning this camera would be a far slower process otherwise!
Heyo, congrats on 10k! Cool to see you progress on this journey. 6:36 I actually keep the movie optimized control setting on, that way I can adjust the aperture through my front dial and not through the lens which I prefer better. Interesting because that same setting does something something different on the xt4 compared to the xt3. On the xt3 I have the setting turned off but turned on for the xt4. I don't ever really backup my card slot setting, just have it on sequential. I see the use for it though, I have formatted a card with footage on it that could have been saved if I used a backup :( Definitely going to try this out for a wedding that I am second shooting tomorrow!
Thank you brother man!! I understand that reasoning, I kinda forget some people prefer to avoid the aperture ring which I love haha. But yeah the dual card thing just terrifies me to lose footage ever, despite how rare it happens.
It’s been a blast following your journey and your work man. Thanks for these videos. Also, you recently shot a wedding for a really good buddy of mine (Britton) , and it was so cool to see some of his clips in this video!
Bought my fuji xt4 about half a year ago, your video was a huge reason I decided to upgrade from my Sony a6400. I've been loving the xt4, the ibis and 4k60 have been amazing... but those colors though! I've been using it for music videos and automotive content and it's been a major step up. I've been pairing mine with the sigma 18-35, but I've been learning manual focus, as I'm too scared to trust autofocus on it.
Loving the content I shoot weddings with 2 xt4s and 1 xt3 (my first Fuji I’ll never get rid of) would love to see your audio set ups for the Fuji and weddings also more of your auto focus tips! Also more of the different handheld and ibis tips you have it’s hard for me to shoot handheld with the Fuji I feel like my footage is really shaky
Thank you Julian, seriously appreciate it! the xt3 will always be near my heart too man. As for my audio it's pretty simple: 2 tascam dr10-L's. One goes on the groom and the other on the officiant or on the audio board/speaker. That's pretty much it for the type of small weddings that I mostly work on! As for IBIS and AF, those are videos that I do still need to make it's just so very difficult with them being so subjective per person, lens, camera, style, etc. but I want to try and address the topics!
Amazing tips! I wanted to ask if you can do a detailed ISO test in low light with different picture profiles especially Flog and let us know which ISO is better with very minimal noise. Thanks
Could you also use the custom modes to change frame rates quickly? For example C1 is vlogging setup with 24p / 50SS / Auto ISO. C2 would be 60 FPS, 120 SS. C2 super Slow Motion 120 FPS etc. And are they separated from stills? So do you have dedicated Custom modes for stills and video? So I could do C2 for burst (wildlife) and C3 settings for Timelapse (16:9 aspect ratio). That would be great!
unfortunately, what you're describing are things not available to the XT4, only the XH line offers this right now. Don't ask me why haha it's a frustration for sure with this camera.
mount adapter settings are for when you use manual or vintage lenses. It tells the camera what focal length the images stabiliser needs, otherwise stabilisation is either under or over-compensated. Vintage lenses cannot communicate this automatically to the camera’s internal computer, but modern X-mount lenses do this automatically.
yup that's exactly right! not sure what part that's at but I'm guessing I glossed over it because I never really use manual lenses, except a few anamorphics these days.
10:48 I've heard that this setting does not work on non native glass, so these settings are pointless with the sigma 18-35. think there's any truth to that? I just bought this lens btw.
Awesome and informative video! Do you still think the X-T4 is a good value and competitive going into 2023 with the current camera line ups at similar price points?
Hey Chris thank you! I definitely think that in the right hands with the right projects it is an absolute steal for value in 2023. Some folks may need more help from the camera with features/settings, or maybe it just doesn't fit their needs, but I personally would still feel very confident and comfortable with the XT4 if I hadn't bought my XH2S. I'm primarily making shorter form video content and it still suits my needs!
Thanks for very informative video. Following your set up, I don't see AF-S (with M) on bottom left on mine, and my SS, F, and ISO are not activated at the same time as 18:23. What am I missing here? Do you have any guess?
@@johnstamw Thanks for checking. I think I found it from your Basic Guide to Fuji for Beginners video. I had to double check my ISO and shutter speed dials.
I did not manage to do that but the left most and right most are the ones that I use (23.98/59.94), so they are only one wheel roll away from each other!
Hi, nice vid, great info for fuji beginners like me, Im having struggles with autofocus... But its ok, im adapting. One question, how did you change the menu color?
In many ways I still feel like a beginner so I'm glad to help you Javier! Autofocus struggles are frustrating :/ I'm glad to hear you're sticking it out! It's well worth it! I don't think I've changed the menu color? you mean the Q menu transparent? I think it's somewhere in the screen setup!
Hey John Do you have a video showing your set up for the Still Setting as well? I must have pressed a button somewhere and now on Provia skin tones look grey!
Oh no! I haven’t figured out a great stills setup and I’m not familiar with that issue:/ hmm, I wish I could help more but there are some great Fuji stills guys out there!
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that Adil. I’ve never used the 16-80 but I’ve heard it’s great for AF?! I hope you could maybe tweak the camera AF settings to fix it? Have you watched Philip blooms video? It may be useful for you. The autofocus for me has been as reliable as needed, I do avoid its weak points: using it for racking focus or in low contrast situation or extra dark scenes, so with that said I’ve not had much trouble personally! Also though I use the Sigma 18-35 almost exclusively.
when i insert my videos to my editing software, only sound, video not show, think it says mov, my footages from sony camera is mp4,they show. im new to this cam, not sure wats up
Why did you stop using the Ninja V? Think I read somewhere that h256 runs smoothly on your computer with Resolve. I installed Resolve today and it took me 5 minutes to decide that I love it! I'm curious why you're not using the Ninja? I can't stand working with that little Fuji screen...
Resolve is incredible, especially for editing h265. As for selling my Ninja V: I primarily owned it because for weddings I wanted dual recording with my XT3 and that was how I did it. But then when upgrading to the XT4 I could do dual recording inside the camera. I don't have any vision issues. And most importantly, I honestly just don't have the finances for keeping that I don't absolutely need. I do like being minimal with my gear, but also I just can't justify any amount of excess financially haha. It's a great tool though, I would definitely own one still if I had the finances!

thx man :) I wonder if you might know, how to turn on the option (in AF-S mode) to give you a green square (focus point - area focus) when it is focused during recording video on XT4? Before the recording is it works (in photo mode and video mode), but not during recording, the focus square goes green when something is sharp, but this does not happen during recording (it focuses, but does not give a green sign that it is focused) In the XT3 it is in the default settings, both video recording and photography. To put it briefly: how to turn option that Focus is confirmed with green box during recording video on XT4? Thank you in advance and and sorry for the long comment :) here is link which demonstrates the problem: th-cam.com/video/Yueov2n3V1M/w-d-xo.html
