God Bless America (2012) Frank rants

  • God Bless America is a great film, now available On Demand, and coming in May to theatres. This is a clip of what was probably my favorite moment in the film, as Frank begins to fight back verbally over the vapidity of modern American culture. Order this film from your cable or satellite company and watch it NOW, or see it in May at your local theatre.

    I love this movie. Not because of the literal actions of the characters, but because they're so fed up with the rest of society. The rants are epic and that's where I identify with the characters. We live in a world full of empty-headed people who have nothing more to say than what they repeat off of television. The murder spree is just a metaphor to move from one idiot to another. After the rash of crazy shootings in the USA, the movie theater scene was hard to watch. But I can identify with the frustration of having to share space with people who seem to be just taking up space. Turn off the TV. Read a book. Do something with your time besides watching TV.

      The whole point of this movie was just how rational it is for someone with nothing to lose to take their anger out on a society who has devolved into... this. For all their bluster about mass shootings the media is to blame for all of it and their approach to sensationalizing mass shootings isn't that far off from how it's portrayed in this. One could imagine after franks rampage the whole thing would just be fit into the regular stream of "content" that he was so fed up with to begin with and nothing would change. The fact that humanity IS so ignorant and vicious with only a fig leaf of morality and chews up and spits people out... why theres no recourse for the victims of the emotional toll this society has on people who are unwilling to participate in its farce of 'civilization' and 'democracy', is exactly why anyone can sympathize with this movie and therefore sympathize with mass shooters.
      Until we actually understand why they do what they do and fix the why, mass shootings are going to continue to happen. And the shit part is we already know why, we just don't want to empathize with it because that empathy for those who have been demonized by society makes us look bad even though it's the only possible solution. Until we can convince the disenfranchised that they can walk into a crowded street and throw a stone and not hit hit someone who deserves to die... that the average person isn't indiscriminately an ignorant, vile, amoral piece of human garbage and maybe you need to be a bit more specific with where you point that gun. Like yeah they have every right to be fed up but its our responsibility as a society to make this a world where if they actually pointed a gun at the people to blame for their strife that random fucking pedestrians wouldn't cut it.

    This film, once examined for what it is, brings up real flaws with modern society, trickling down from the media, or perhaps the media just gives the masses what they want. Chicken or the egg? We laud those who are simply put, mean people, those who have no moral fiber and seek to exploit the weak for personal gain and public recognition. What is right and wrong has become secondary to what sells and what if the truth is boring, it is painted and falsified to become exciting. That girl on Sweet 16 is a byproduct of the world in which she was raised and the backwards priorities that are constantly reinforced to be acceptable. We need to change from the top-down, so what trickles down is the truth, however boring it might be.

    • @ksawery6568
      @ksawery6568 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't think anything can change from the top-down, unless everything starts changing on an individual level, bottom-up. But that would require a world-wide crisis or cataclysm, or a common enemy from outer space. That's just human nature, we all need conflict. It would take a huge event to wake us up from our collective dream.

    This is so spooky! Stumbled across this vid after basically having the exact same thoughts this evening and I’d never even heard of the film before

      That's not a sign; it means you're highly susceptible to subversive propaganda. Get help.. no, really.

    It depends on the environment. Listen to the conversations people have on public transport or at restaurants, and I guarantee you'll be shocked at the level of obscenity and lewdness that finds its way into the conversation.

    I like this part. I normally don't really like lecture moments in films, and I don't even totally agree with this, but I feel it is just well done, realistically speaking as well as entertainment-wise.

    ...The Times They Are a-Changin
    This is truly just the beginning, I am not here trying to justify the turn society has inevitably taken but I am reaching out to those who fight it and say "lets go back". Every generation strives to break the mold, destroy the cultural taboos we once considered sacred. Unfortunately no one is able to stop it. Those days have passed & all we have now are memories. All I suggest is to grab a book, let go, find something you care about & embrace life for what it is.
