The thing is Mesmer’s design points in 2 different directions. His hair and flame obviously pointing towards being a lost offspring of Radagon/Marika, but the title he’s given and the snakes in his costume point toward Rykard. Because if you remember Rykard before he got snake vored was also an impaler as evidenced by the numerous stakes placed around Volcano Manor. Too many free radicals at this moment and time to pin down anything solid, but maybe someone else has figured it out by now.
There's a third direction. His eyes, his outfit's design, and possibly his flames are connected to Dragon Communion.
He might’ve been the third child of Marika and Radagon. He might’ve sided with the dragons and was possibly a heretic. In Altus plateau, there is like a platform that looks it’s from farum azula (where Lansseax jumps you), with rocks that have golden cracks in it (like in the heretical rise, which also have miquellas lilies). Could explain the fire he wields, the snake imagery, the dragon armor and eyes, etc. If the tarnished archeologist is right, he might’ve been involved in burning the Erdtree and why Marika has Melina used as kindling.
Yes, I noticed that one boss looks like a mix of Morgot and Maliket, and another who rides a horse in a purple cave reminds me of Radan
I think it's very likely that the dlc takes place in Miquella's dream and that the characters are based on his memories of the people he knew
@@fernandoblanco2170those are all part of the dream theme reconstructing memories of the land and creatures fought were all made into this whole “dream world” area underground where there’s a massive chunk of blank space so that’s where it’ll be on the map.
His eyes imply Dragon Communion and his armour resembles the Drake Knight Set. His title is "Messmer The Impaler" and twin snakes are a sign of blasphemy. He takes inspiration from Vlad The Impaler "son of the dragon" who was part of the "order of the dragon" and betrayed them and the and the Holy Roman Empire. With this we could theorise Messmer betrayed the Golden Order somehow, being branded as a traitor, definately not on the dragon's side considering it would be weird for a dragon slayer to side let alone be accepted by them.
Messmer, that final boss looking guy, has got to be one of, if not the coolest looking boss in from history, I'm so hype to fight him.
Also that armor on the guy wielding the repeating crossbow is IMPECCABLE. I cannot wait to wear that
I'm more excited about getting new outfits and weapons than anything, but that's just me. I'm generally obsessed with cool gear and loot in this type of game.
I'm curious if that sword at 2:54 is a greatsword or a colossal sword. I'm guessing the latter, but it looks a bit short. (Might just be the character being huge.) As a greatsword main I do hope for sort of an oversized greatsword.
Snakes are associated with treason and volcano manor, but this guy makes me think of those Gladiators. The title also seems rather gladiatorial, no? "The Impaler"
The gladiators wore the snakes because they were symbols of treason, so the crowd loved watching them be beaten

@@90bubbel60 It's most likely is a new flame though, it doesn't fit any of the other flames fully, it's like a mix of the blasphemous flame and the bloodflame.

Those are also not the “aspects of Miquella.” Miquella is representative of abundance and sleep (for St. Trina). Miquella WAS however accepting of all walks of life and wanted them to thrive, including Those Who Live in Death. He had a goal of trying to restore Godwyn’s soul and that also seems to be tied to the world of dreams (for example Fia taking us into Godwyn’s deathbed dream to fight the lichdragon). It’s only in dreams that St. Trina appears, and she appears as an adult and at the end of the trailer it looks to be an adult with golden hair. I think we are following Miquella into some sort of dreamscape that holds souls of the dead. Maybe even the golden haired adult at the end is Godwyn himself.

I love that the lion mask monster seems to have elements of Godfrey and his descendants with the obvious omen horns and limbs symbolizing Mohg and Morgott, golden hair and lightning incantations for Godwyn, grafted extra limbs for Godrick, and to top it all off the very Serosh looking mask likely symbolizing Godfrey himself
It looks like 2 different people, one on the others shoulders, or possibly grafted? Like the Chinese dragons they use in celebrations

The Lion is indeed like a chinese dragon, at 1:27 of the trailer you can see its two dudes on top of each other in the funniest way possible for a boss fight. The omen horns however are an interesting choice though.
It kinda looks like Morgott and Serosh, the lion sitting on Godfrey's shoulder, got grafted together like Godrick and the dragon head is grafted together in Stormveil.

Edit: If you read the two most recent interviews with Miyazaki about this expansion you will nod every now and then in the sense of "just as I thought." These interviews are great, IGN and Eurogamer.
21:00 - There are new screenshots on Steam and the official Elden Ring website. In one of them, the main character creates a spiked porcupine. That is, probably another aspect of the crucible. This is what the creature does. And since these are things related to the very distant past it makes sense. Miyazaki confirmed that it takes place a long time ago when Miquella himself visited the place, but I'd rather you check out the interviews yourself in peace.

If my wife and child began to whine and feel bad when the trailer starts in a few seconds I would personally rip the death run from the Ring, and I would do such things that Shabriri would be dumbfounded and then I would bring back the death rune as if nothing had ever happened. Of course, I'm joking because I'm a pacifist.
In the end I think we saw a Godwyn or Miquella character. I'm most intrigued by the guy with the red snake on him. I think this land is another dimension e.g.: dream world. For the reason that Miquella is related to Saint Trina. And I think we hear Miquella's voice at one point. There is a voice that is a very soft, feminine-sounding male voice. It could be him. Because this voice is new and it fits him.
Loved the vid, the amount of theory crafting this will set fire to will be so awesome!
I’m just looking at the Berserk visual design references, the repeating crossbow, how the impaler guy is like Ganishka in how the character comes across in the trailer as a wannabe dictator/demon king in this realm of dream or just a character we never heard of until now. Super cool the wicker man made an appearance!!! That fight was cool in the Berserk manga I’m getting the whole game on PS5 disc and finally doing my Guts build right
The wormface enemy is actually a Lamprey, it has a circular mouth with a ring of teeth, and gills along the sides of the neck. It's a deep sea scavenger of carrion, which fits VERY well with Godwyn's ocean imagery
Just noticed that the pre-order emote of the ring of miquella is literally the circle with the vertical slash across the right side (the vertical slash being made by your character's body in the emote)

In the description for the video, the place is called the Land of Shadows and is obscured by the Erdtree, so I think it's just everything Banished from the grace of the Erdtree, and maybe Miquella is reaching out to it through Mohg's nature as an omen. Notably Messmer has quite a dragon communion appearance.
The kicking attack is definitely the senpou leaping kicks from sekiro
One other interesting note about the spectral veil over the tree, and your connection with Marika's chambers, is that the "Mimic's Veil" item you find in Stormveil castle - stolen by Godrick - was also known as "Marika's Mischief". It's not the first time there's a link between Marika, Veils, and concealment.

Radagon's Rings of Light was an incantation gifted to Miquella from Radagon, in gratitude for Miquella gifting him the Discus and Triple Rings of Light before he abandoned Golden Order Fundamentalism
It seems like Messmer (aka discount Vlad the Impaler) is allied with the same group that worshipped the God Serpent Rykard fused himself with. The same or similar Snakes & Serpents are bound to the Colosseum Duelists can be seen wrapped around Messmer’s body but they are bright red vs the rusty copper green the Duelists have.
He also seems to have some connection to every opposing force other than the frenzied flame. As his eyes are the dragon eyes, he seems to have either the fire giant flame or rykards flame, and the death flames

Just an observation: Messmer the Impaler (which I presume is a reference to Dracula) seemingly has an attack that causes spears to erupt from the ground. This is very similar to the special move used by the spear-wielding cleanrot knights. I don't know if that means anything, like if they're connected somehow, just thought I'd mention it.
Over-all, Messmer's design seems to have a lot of allusions to Rykard, what with the snakes and everything. That would be a bit odd if he's a child of Radagon and Marika. (Although, I guess _technically_ Rennala's kids are also children of Marika, because, you know...)

I think it's more likely Messmer, when he speaks to "mother", is actually talking to the Outer God "the Formless Mother" who also gave Mohg his blood skills and incantations. The fire Messmer is using seems to be a blood flame like Mohg's as well.
you keep hitting the nail on the head with this commentary.
few things to note:
1: the lion boss, or as i call them, the lion dancers, are actually several people in cloaks using the lion's head like a puppet. this can be clearly seen while its spraying the stones. you mentioned chinese dragons, its exactly like those, from parades.
2: messmer IS the third child, it was said in a translated interview, though it can always be argued that it was mistranslated, so the smoldering butterfly is another thing that practically confirms it. the rotten butterfly belongs to malenia, the nascent to miquella, and the smoldering to messmer. and his dialogue mentions his mother granting him lordship. in the cover art, he is on one of the thrones for demigods. his mother must be marika.
3: you NAILED the veil imagery. there is a LITERAL veil hiding the realm of shadows from the rest of the lands between.
4: the tree IS the erdtree, but veiled.

12:27 I think that's actually Nokron or Nokstella (can't remember which is which). That throne room is almost identical to the one where you fight the Nox Swordstress and the two Mimic Tears!
It would make sense for Nox folk to be in this realm of shadow since they were against the Erdtree and the Two Fingers.

The half horse half human enemy looks a lot like a boss someone drew way back before the game was out.

Am I the only one that sees some christian imagery there with good old Messmer? I mean seriously, dude in a tree, has a snake and demon-ish looking wing-motivs, and they're using the golden feathered wings in the clash... at some point things stop being coincidences, right...?
(Funnily enough, good old Lucifer is often described as having piercing golden eyes in fiction, so there is that too)

I wonder is Messmer is a disgraced Demigod of some kind that did something so horrible he was struck from the history books and no one remembers who he is except the Demigods themselves. And given Miquella's involvement, I also wonder if perhaps Miquella is somehow to blame for his downfall.
