My layout in the app has changed i dont like it but dont know how to change it? I want it back to when your showing us the main screen mine was like yours as in layout now is different
Can i copy songs from my mobile or laptop to this watch and listen them offline while running using bluetooth headphone. Indont like to carry my phone while excersizing
Thank you for this honest review, mine just arrived last Friday. I use it as the same as my discontinued Original Vivoactive square faced watch . But this has some added metrics with the fields. I don’t have any of my Garmin cycling computers anymore they broke or were lost off the bike. So far I think the font for the smart phone notifications are smaller....that’s a big negative for me cause that’s one of the main reasons for the purchase. Other the cool style I like, and the format for the activities is different than my older Vivoactive I am used too. I think the Vivoactive is easier to use, and Especially my daily steps feature was large and clear to read and see. Time will tell on the battery life. And I don’t use the activities unless I forget my Leyzyne cycling computer. Mostly I use this as a smart watch connected to my IPhone 📱. Without having purchased or ever had an Apple Watch ! I really am extremely happy with the battery life of my older square Vivoactive, ,,,lasts and beats out the Apple Watch on that. So let’s see how this one is !
Something to mention about this watch, as well - the screen only stays on for about 3 seconds (at least mine does). I can't even hit the next option when you swipe before it turns off, and you constantly have to process what's on the next screen since it's so small, as you pointed out. I will be returning mine for the Venu.
Do you recommend the Mpow M30? I have it in my amazon basket but just haven't paid for it yet. Thinking of buying it for my wife. Or just some decent true wireless earbuds.
Hey guy, thanks you tipped me over to Vivoactive 4. I was already sold on that one but then discovered the Venu SQ so was toying with going the cheaper route but your battery life experience and your final comment comparing them sealed it. Now to decide VA4 or VA4S for my tiny hands. Thanks anyway.
Hi Donovan. I am interested in purchasing one of the many watches you have reviewed. On board music storage, accurate GPS and biometric sensors, and a screen that is easy to read outside during sunny runs are most important features. A lighter watch is a plus, and having a speaker to play music without earpods is a plus but not as important. Any suggestions between the Garmin Venu Sq, Garmin 245, Garmin 3 music, Garmin 4, Amazfit GTR 2, GTS 2, Stratos 3, Ticwatch Pro 3 GPS, or Huawei GT2?
I have fr 245 about 6 months and just bought venu sq for my wive about 2 weeks. Venu sq is very good watch but fr 245 still better and with higher price
I would probably pick the Venu SQ personally. It has all the same features as the Forerunner 45, but has some features the 45 doesn’t (the option of music, Garmin Pay).
You can wear a Bluetooth chest strap sensor and pair it with this watch so you don’t have to have the band tight, I have the same watch but wear it loose. The watch is auto set to prioritize to the external sensor.
Do you prefer a chest strap for HR? I actually have a few on the way I will be testing out from Polar, but haven’t ever really felt the need to use one when wrist based HR has been quite reliable for me (though obviously requiring the watch to be tight to my wrist).
@@donavonhornbeck - I want consistency, and I believe the electrical sensor technique is more consistent than optical sensing. I have the polar H10. I ran with an FT4 on one wrist using the Polar H10, the other wrist with the Venu sq on its own optical sensor. When I ran there was a difference and the difference varied, one was higher 2-7 bpm, then when I ran faster with intervals it was lower than the other one. I wanted to use the same H10 on both watches to verify the numbers being the same, both read the same number. I’ve run 5K foot races where the last 1/10 of a mile I would crank it up to full gas - flat out all the way in. My usual finish style. I did this for several races with the FT4 with an old H1. 4 races I maxed at 163 bpm, one I hit 164. I would say if there is an error between reading and true, it’s a consistent, not variable. That’s what matters. My calculated max is 158 so I know I’m in the true ballpark.
Great review, thanks esp. for the negative stuff, very useful to hear about. You can of course design your own watch faces, Garmin has a tool for that.
All the Garmin watches including the most expensive ones such as Fenix 6 under measure pulse ox between %4-%7. Huawei is so good at measuring pulse ox, even band 4 that is sold for 30 usd !
Mine can get as low as 80s on PulseOx 😓 but I think wrist base oximeter is very sensitive to movements, so even if I only track during sleeps, if I move around during the measurements it will give a lower result..🤷🏻♀️ it’s great that you get yourself a proper oximeter 👍🏻
Yeah, I'd almost prefer that they didn't include it if it's not accurate personally. Even when I sleep it's not good for me. It might get as "high" as 93% when I sleep, but still clearly well below the actual pulse ox. Hopefully it is improved in future watches.
@@donavonhornbeck I think part of the problem is that it takes the oximetry at intervals where you don't expect it. Say for instance just when you're done with a run/ during a run/ during movement. Rather than an avg Spo2 through the day, could you compare how well it does it on demand? Since that's how Spo2 is generally tracked, under predefined conditions and not at periodic intervals where you might not be in the correct state to have an Spo2 measured.
Great video! Between this one and the regular Venu which one is better? The regular has a better spo2 tracking? Also what phone are you using?

The accuracy comment doesn't match the review by The Quantified Scientist. He compares to a Polar chest strap and the Venu SQ lags the heart readings. His Apple Watch comparison to the same chest strap showed that the Apple Watch is very precise with no lag. I'm interested in a Venu SQ and I wonder if a firmware update would fix this.
If you see the new video by The Quantified Scientist, about Venu Sq you can find the Firmware improvement. Now it's very accurate in comparison of Polar H10
If it was up to me I would 100% choose the Venu SQ. I personally feel like the Venu SQ just offers a lot more for the price. GPS on the watch is a big deal to me.
Hey just a couple of questions.. can you control music that's playing on your phone as well as music stored on the watch? And any issues with notifications coming through on apps?
Do u have a recommended bluetooth earphone that works best with venu sq music edition? Because the one im using too loud and volume control doesnt work
Yes you can. You have to do it through a computer using Garmin Connect, so it's a bit more difficult than just using a music service, but it can definitely be done.
When you review so many watches you forget the name of the watch you're reviewing. Great little watch there and great review D! I saw my po2 pretty low on my garmin as well and freaked me out!! Good to see its inaccurate!
Yeah, I was honestly getting worried a little with the Pulse Ox, but I'm glad it was just wrong. It's a little concerning, because I wonder how many other people might get worried when theirs is also low on the watch. I've got the Polar Vantage V2 on the way... I'm excited to try my first real Polar watch. I did previously have a Polar M400, but that was quite a while ago and it was definitely a bit of a disappointment for me.
Running in a 400 meter loop is giving an inaccurate distance, average pace and the path it shows of my run is also inaccurate. The Nike app on my android phone is giving a very acceptable data compared to Garmin Venu SQ.I have a non music edition and I am disappointed.
you talked about two watches and that makes people who are not familiar with the items make it very complicated, and you even talked about your apple watch.... The tile of your video is garmin venu sq..........

How do I turn off certain alerts? I think it is idiotic to receive an alert that merely tells you that it detected you are moving.
Is it just mine, or do other people have issues with the sensitivity of the screen?
Can i copy songs from my mobile or laptop to this watch and listen them offline while running using bluetooth headphone. Indont like to carry my phone while excersizing
If I don’t do outdoor running a lot but do most my workout in the gym , will this watch suit my needs?
The frustration of this watch will raise your blood pressure.
I am not able to receive or make any cal through venu SQ.Can you please guide

Hi Donovan. How do I get/add the calorie widget at 6:50 to my Garmin Connect app? I can't seem to find it. Thanks for the great review!
During a phone call the screen will repeatedly vibrate with the message " ongoing call " anyway to stop this error ? It's really annoying
On garmin's website it looks like the premium music version of this is round shaped ?
How long is the software update on the device?
hello, does your venu sq watch has small circle on left bezel screen /.it seem like sensor ???
how is the sound quality with bluetooth earbuds?

My Venu sq had an option to display Sleep stats in the My Day widget, but when I turn it on, it doesnt show
Actually you can respond to messages using pre defined messages set up in the connect app.
Good point, that does work with Android devices.
Thank you for this Donavan! Would you prefer this Venu to a Fenix 5?
Is it possible to store mp3s on non music version?

I love my Venu SQ. How do u pair with AirPods?

What I dislike : venu sq is not showing on strava result. Please rectify this garmin and strava. Get talk to each other!
does it show you the calories burnt daily every day?
Is it MIP screen?
Hi, i mainly do running (5k-7k) and mountain biking. I'm torn between the Venu sq and forerunner 245. Which would you advice me to get. Thank you !!!
Same here! Wat would you recommend?
I have fr 245 about 6 months and just bought venu sq for my wive about 2 weeks. Venu sq is very good watch but fr 245 still better and with higher price
The music version, is it worth it?
Hiya, thanks a lot for your review. How do you compare forerunner 45 and venu sq? If you had to choose for a beginner runner.
I would probably pick the Venu SQ personally. It has all the same features as the Forerunner 45, but has some features the 45 doesn’t (the option of music, Garmin Pay).

My Coros Apex has awesome battery life! I charged it 6 days ago and it is at 50% with 18 hours of GPS this week

Does anyone know if I can set the screen to show my steps count by default (instead of the time/clock) pls?
Try a different face

I also have the venu sq but on my last run said that my heart is 211 which is impossible.
Yeah, my heart would beat out of my chest at that rate. I find it to be very accurate when I wear it tight to my wrist. Maybe that might help you?
Wear a chest strap with Bluetooth like the H9 or H10 Polar.
