    Really nice to see you doing follow-up tests after firmware updates like this. I recently bought a Fitbit Charge 4, and my initial impression was not that good. However, the next day I got a firmware update which made a big impact to my HR readings. I have a pretty low resting HR of around 37-40 which I think confused the Charge , it oftentimes doubled the readings . But after the update it seems to correctly interpret my HR way more often. Have you noticed changes to the Charge 4 lately? I bought mine about 10 days ago and updated it about a week ago.

    Very interesting work! I just bought the Sq and have immediately noticed how much better the HR tracking is for cardio work indoors where my previous 645 struggled a lot, especially with HIIT and quick, large HR changes. If I get the chance to compare with a Polar or similar strap I will :-)

  • @_samurai_744
    @_samurai_744 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As far as i know, data recording setting is only for gps accuracy, not for HR performance. HR improvement is the result of software upgrade i think. If you have chosen a more settled product such as Vivoactive 4 or Venu (not SQ), you would get better results at first. The problem of Garmin is to release unfinished (not ready) products. You should wait about a year for all of the problems to be solved with upgrades.

    I got one today and in my book it's totally inaccurate. Getting 140 whilst standing still and talking, during a pause when out walking. Standing still making a cup of coffee, apparently it's 100, 80 sitting still. However on my previous tracker, sitting would be approx 50, moving slowly would be about 80, and 140 would be going uphill whilst cycling. Ridiculously inaccurate.

    Or perhaps Xiaomi's Mi Watch/Mi Watch color sports edition/Mi Watch Revolve (or whatever its name is), which is supposed to come to Europe around Christmas and should be budget friendly (€100) and use firstbeat algorithms (which should be really accurate)?

      Mines the opposite - brand new today and it's reading 110 whilst standing still, and 70-80 whilst sitting down - my previous tracker would read 80 standing still, and approx 50 when sitting. It actually got worse when doing every second. It's awful tech, complete waste of money.

    Hey Rob. Think you could do a comparison between the Venu Sq and the H10 for a 12-hr daily activities heart rate test? Just doing your daily work and chores. Without selecting an exercise activity, just the watch normal mode. I personally found that the heart rate is very erratic with errors coming in when I'm moving my arms a lot. I'm comparing it to a finger pulse oximeter which is not ideal. Since you have a Polar H10... Thanks.

    Have you had the chance to test the new Somnofy device ? They claim it has about 80-90% accuracy compared to PSG. If that is the case then it would be serious competitor to the Dreem since it is no contact device. I will be awaiting on your review before I make a purchase, I can't trust anyone else.

  • @petergamma741
    @petergamma741 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is confusing. We are happy that the accuracy of the Venu is now better. But is it due to changed settings or due to a fimware update? Firmware updates should be communicated better by the manufacturers, if they affect the accuracy. They have an influence on accuracy studies. As on your study. In the middle of your study, there was a firmware update, which disturbs your study, and makes it difficult to interpret.
    The politics of these firmware updates should be improved. Polar increased for instance the running time of the Verity Sense by a firmware update, which made us retreat from the Verity Sense. If the parameters of a sensor are changed, a new validation paper is necessary. We went back to the Polar OH1, because there is a validation paper with a 3 lead ECG device for the Polar OH1, but not for the Verity Sense.
    It is a pity that your testing protocols are not published. How long was the test, how long was the speed, etc. so that that it can be reproduced, and that we can get numerical and statistical data, and a ranking. It does not need to be a scientific paper, it could also be a WIKI page to start with.
    Thank you for your update, regards, Peter Gamma, Meditation Research Institute Switzerland MRIS

    So I have a Vivoactive 4s that I got about a week ago, and it seems to be reading very different HR numbers from my fitbit. These higher (about 10 higher during active sessions and VA seems to get stuck where it refuses to go below 130 when the FB is at about 110 when I'm on a recovery.) seasons means my calories burned are much higher. I think they are incorrect.
    Also, when moving around the house, Garmin says my heart rate spokes and gives me tons of extra burned calories from things like walking to the bathroom and brushing my teeth. When I check my fitbit at the same time, often, my HR is much lower than garmin reports.
    I have purchased a heart rate band, which is coming Saturday, to check which numbers are more accurate. I think the Fitbit will be but I think it may be a problem and I'll have to contact Garmin about it, like, I don't think this is normal.
    Fingers crossed that I can figure this out. It's kind of pointless to use this if it's saying I'm burning 4x as many calories as a large adult man when I am a small woman 😂, just from walking up the stairs once.

    Garmin is working on switchinh to the first beat sleep tracking.. For now I think it's Fenix 6 only, but it on its way for other of their watches. It recently switched from a vivosmart 4 to a Fenix 6, and the sleep tracking have gone close to useless to fitbit level

    • @littlered6340
      @littlered6340 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really? I've seen so many mixed reviews about the Firstbeat tracking that I was worried. Does it detect naps yet?
      I have used fitbit for many many years, but have been wanting to switch to Garmin lately. The sleep tracking is the biggest thing I've heard Garmin fails on, so that's what I've been doing a lot of research on lately.

    • @ThomasChristensenX
      @ThomasChristensenX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@littlered6340 still no nap detection and I would still stick with fitbit if that was the only thing (I've a charge 3). But I do love the stress/body battery and recovery features on garmin

    • @littlered6340
      @littlered6340 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThomasChristensenX I lift weights and fitbit still absolutely refuses to add strength training tracking (sets/reps etc) so that's the big thing for me. I don't WANT to lose sleep options but I think the overall benefits of the including the body battery which REALLY intrigues me, is worth more. It would be nice not to lose the sleep tracking though. Like, I always appreciated fitbit telling me if/when I took a nap, what the quality of it was, and not having to fuss with any of the sleep data as well. I've been slowly realising how important resting is to recovery and just overall well being, but fitbit also wants you to pay for a lot of the new sense features, and I'm more of a one time pay person versus a subscription one. So, it seems like, aside from sleep, Garmin is better for me, but man it's a shame how behind they seem to be. :(

    • @ThomasChristensenX
      @ThomasChristensenX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@littlered6340 I found that the body battery feature, was telling me what I actually wanted to know from the sleep data on fitbit, so I made the jump from charge 3 to the vivosmart 4. But as you say - it's a shame we can't get both. I had hope for a body battery feature on the charge 4 (I think the sense is just to .. ugly). The fenix 6s is big and chunky (and expensive), but it does everything good enough for now. Anybody you can borrow a garmin from and see how the body battery works for you (you need to use it for a while, for it to calibrate)

    • @littlered6340
      @littlered6340 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThomasChristensenX I currently have the charge 4 actually. I basically told my friends (since I tend to be the fit friend) it wasn't worth the upgrade from 3, so to just get the 3 for a lower price if they were debating. I'll ask around, but I think everyone I know is still using fitbit.
      I found out recently that fitbit has been doing poorly (negatively?) in profits and I think that's why so much of the Sense data is paywalled, which is a shame because I was REALLY excited about that basal body temp but if I have to choose between two 300 dollar devices, the Sense and the Vivoactive 4s, I think the vivoactive might be slightly more in line with my exercise type.
      Plus, vivoactive is on sale right now because of Christmas. I was hoping the Fenix might go on sale, but no dice 😂. Sense is also not on sale fwiw.
      But yeah that's a good idea. I'll ask around.
