so funny this video came out cuz i have been planning to have a standing desk when i next refurb my studio! i was gonna go for a static high table and high chair that i can just kick away to stand... had no idea that motorised desks exist so thanks for this!!
This is like one of the best channels I've found during this corona era. I've been putting such a lot of effort into my home mixing spot (which is basically just in my shared flat bedroom), and I just keep getting awesome tips and tricks from you guys. I don't feel like leaving to mix at school any more, as I've got everything so nice for myself here at home now! Extra big thumbs up you monsters!
So crazy. I've been thinking about doing this in my home studio for quite some time. Thank you for yet another great video. The Flexispot desks look great.
I didn't know I needed this, but I'm in the process of building a new desk for the new studio and it would be incredibly useful. Cheap for what it is too. Thanks guys, once again you're on the money.
I transitioned to a standing desk about three months ago and I couldn’t be happier. Mine is not adjustable though, so I do everything standing up. It makes me do breaks a little more, but the productivity boost and the performance aspect are so good that I don’t look back.
Mark really gets going around 10 minutes. Less sarcasm, more genuine excitement over the impact of this work environment change. As someone who works a regular desk job all day at the same desk where I do all of my audio production in the evening, I'm pretty sure these likeable clowns just sold me on a standing desk.
Thanks Matt, it’s really really really good! Once you’re over the initial gimmick value then it makes such a difference to your day - especially if you’re using a desk as much as you are!
Awesomeness! When you raise and lower the main monitors, that will also change the way the speakers interact with the room. I realise the room is exceptionally well treated but it would definitely be interesting to see the measurements in the lower and raised speaker positions. Acoustic Fields once mentioned that they had subwoofers on chain rigs so they could move them up and down in the room to fine tune where they positionally smoothed out the room modes best. I assume your current seated position gives you a flat-ish (nobody has flat) response. Will that get worse/better as you raise and lower the speakers? Furthermore, people who buy platforms for near field speakers often just hear the altered room/reflection response when the speakers get raised a few inches. So having a few feet to play with will definitely show some noticeable changes….so I recon 😆 Can’t wait to see the main speakers on platforms. I wonder if you can have a single button to raise the desk and both speakers to a pre-set position…..coool as!
It’s all very room dependant. In our studio there is no noticeable difference in sound between the sitting or standing position (in the case of the nearfields on the desk).
Interesting to see how the value for money has changed - I was in this situation about 12 years ago. In fact, you've just reminded me why I ditched my speaker stands and got a couple of foam wedges instead: it was when I bought my standing desk! I love it, and I actually now stand up to work pretty much all day when I'm doing my day job (software dev). The studio isn't set up at the moment, but when I've finally moved house I'll be reviewing my studio desk options very carefully in the light of this video because the desk I bought was more limited than the one you reviewed, and it cost me a shade over £2k!
I gave up on Discord, never worked for me to be honest. Still watching here :). That way of desking has been in my wifes office for sometime. She uses a desktop version that is manual, changed her life too. I think this would help me a ton too. Thanks for the review guys.
Great vid as usual chaps. i have built my own sit/stand desk in my studio too, and its awesome for long editing sessions. when mixing i sit down but my 2 sets of nearfileds, 1 set i soffit mounted, and the smaller set i mounted on stands behind the desk. works just fine for editing, but when doing critical mixing, i put into sit position.
Another perfect video on a topic that deserves much more attention! I have done pretty much what you show here and it's awesome. Having your studio desk on a height adjustable frame is extremely useful: You really don't have to do everything standing but getting up once in a while is noticeably better for your back and your productivity - plus I hate recording (electric) guitar sitting down. I have been thinking about a way to make height adjustable speaker stands too but haven't been able to come up with something that isn't quite so expensive, so my monitors will have to reside on the desk for now. Can't wait to see how well your solution will work!
AWESOMEEEE!!! I've been using a standing desk i a configuration like this for some years now, but my speakers are not on the desk and I have been thinking about how to make the speakers move along with the desk also. So, I am VERY MUCH looking forward to a video about that build, PLEASE! :) Great video as always - thanks a big bunch!!!
Awesome setup! I look forward to your Adam Audio T8V review. I have the Adam Audio T7V studio monitors and I think it’s the best set of affordable studio monitors. In their price range, there’s simply NO competition. Perfect.
It is indeed a magic tool. We’ve had every high end converter through the doors you can imagine, and nothing sounds as clean and neutral as that thing!
I bought an IKEA desk that goes up and down by using a crank, it was the most affordable option. I play guitars, and I also prefer to do that standing. Before it meant lots of bending down, having to hold the guitar with one hand so it doesn't knock something out or get dinged while I operate the DAW, or constantly putting away to sit and pick up again to play, annoying stuff. Now I can play standing, than just walk to a desk, do whatever on the PC, then take a step back to play again. Seamless.
@@PresentDayProduction I'd like to create my desk and I'd like to know what is the heavy duty Upliftdesk stand you choose. I don't see it... In France... Is there a specific model I could chase ?

Amazing video and I love the idea of this but I'm struggling to make it work with optimal speaker positions without needing a crazy deep desk to get the speakers far enough away for proper placement. Maybe a kind of step up section to the desk, that's further away like those cheap Z desks you can find on gear4music (like a spoiler on a car that's up and back).
Yeah that could work - but as you shouldn’t stand all the time, just as you shouldn’t sit all the time, I think speakers on stands is the best option and then pick either the sitting or standing position for critical listening and do the other when you’re editing, or emailing, or other tasks that don’t necessarily require you to be in the sweet spot. That’s working for me!
You use some speaker stands at one point (not the home made ones, the ones with the shelves). What are those? Where can I get them? What are the pads below them? I have the same issue with speaker height and this looks like a very nice solution
@@PresentDayProduction IKEA shelves? Looks like I'm off to IKEA in the morning! Thanks for the info and keep up the great work! I found this video very interesting, Cheers!

Thanks for watching! Yes, it’s as solid as a rock. Even at the extreme of its height with half a Hammond on top there was only a small amount of wobble - and that was due to the wheels. With its regular feet it’s really stable.
You mentioned that you would want to get two standing desks, one for your work and one for your monitors, can you sync up the motors so that when you press one button they both go up or down?
I'm considering one of these as well, and is thought i could just get a deeper desktop and mount speaker stands in the back corners and the rest towards the center, so the speakers would still be fast enough back. Wouldn't that work fine? Why do you need to get two more of these adjustable bases?
Pic @ 7:40. How does that work? Didn't you have to cut out the desk top between the rack sides to accommodate the rack gear? Could you detail the build in another video?
@@PresentDayProduction I wish you added more details on how you built the desk. Nobody sells exactly the desk the way you made it, with the two tilted rack panels only to the sides and that can accommodate the speakers on their tops. Companies usually sell workstations either with a whole long shelf that has 3 columns of racks (meaning the display will be too high), or otherwise they sell desks with tilted side panels, but that do not have the space to hold the speakers on their tops (which is not ideal for a standing desk). Your desk is the only example I could find after weeks of digging online that would check all the boxes. Too bad its tutorial is a sequence of jumpcuts lasting no longer than 50 seconds including the funny animations and jokes (and don't get me wrong, I did like those animations a lot). Still is more info that I could ever find anywhere else for a sit-stand music desk, but as I am not an experienced woodworker, I am still intimidated. I've been contemplating a similar solution for quite a while for the studio desk. Similar to yourselves, biggest concern is speaker placement. Great video, thanks. Is there any wobble on the desk when it's in standing position? Do you think it would support a keyboard tray and still be stable when the tray is extended? Thanks
There’s not much wobble at all. I (James) could sit on it at its full extended height and it didn’t wobble much! It should be absolutely fine with something like a keyboard tray. It can hold a huge amount of weight so a tray would be easy!
if you put speakers on them the sound will change when u stand up , will they not ? they would in my control room , mayb you have lots of headroom lol . great vid as always you are getting more crazy with each video your both mad as hatters . bsafe DUDES ;)
Just wondering how you got the legs so wide for the desk. How does that work. They look really narrow in the product images on their site. Also, did the desk wobble much in use.
That will depend entirely on your room. I’d advise getting a seated listening position sorted, with speakers on stands behind the desk, and getting that as good as it can be, and then adopting the standing position for less critical tasks such as editing, admin etc.
Planning to get one! How stable is the desk? Debating whether to put the monitor speakers on the desk, or leave on stands. Relative position, seated, would be the same. But concerned - even with something like the IsoAcoustics 200 desk monitor iso stand - about the acoustic compromise by having a less stable structure - presumably the desk is (a lot) more wobbly, than a decent 1m high stand. Thoughts? Thanks!
@@PresentDayProduction Great - many thanks for the (speedy!) reply. Debating whether to put the speakers on it as well, and between this and the Jarvis. The latter has a higher weight capacity, which might be handy. But I'm guessing might be a bit more wobbly, from what I've gathered so far ...
That’s quite an expensive electrical appliance, just to help raise your old organ up... but I suppose it comes with age. Rather than buy more desks, perhaps dig a hole/pit in front of your listening position... put the desk in it... and raise/lower yourself, as required.
OK, but can it hold a CP 70 in the air?.... ... Just kidding, PLEASE, for the love of God, don't try it! I still don't know how mine got into my basement and apparently I was the one lifting it with a friend. Too traumatizing a memory to remember anything :P

That’s quite an expensive electrical appliance, just to help raise your old organ up... but I suppose it comes with age. Rather than buy more desks, perhaps dig a hole/pit in front of your listening position... put the desk in it... and raise/lower yourself, as required.
Which model are those speaker risers at 6:40?
IKEA mini bookshelves
Is there a link to the suppliers or company?
The top link in the description will take you there:

OK, but can it hold a CP 70 in the air?....
... Just kidding, PLEASE, for the love of God, don't try it! I still don't know how mine got into my basement and apparently I was the one lifting it with a friend. Too traumatizing a memory to remember anything :P
My brain has also removed many memories of shifting those around!
Been trying to think of a witty comment, but can't rise to the task
In your face rising desk in my face : )
Instead of a Hammond, you should have gone with the “high Rhodes” opportunity…

I envy you because you own a real Hammond (I bought a Viscount Legend to survive).
But come on... This is surely the most stupid way to use a Hammond organ! LoL
