    I think the problem with fish as a “beginner pet” is that some species do survive with terrible care and the owners think they have done something right but the fish is just hanging on for dear life

      Often the case with goldfish and bettas, which can survive in even the worst conditions, so people think they aren’t doing anything wrong
      Add to that they can’t express themselves the way mammals can, so it’s hard to tell they’re suffering unless they’re visibly sick or dying

    Agreed. If you train them properly from the beginning, dogs are easy peezy. With goldfish, they are swimming in their own waste, and you MUST be vigilant in water quality. Generally, since the environment you're living in is the same one as your dog, you probably don't need to worry about that

    • @velvet6923
      @velvet6923 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      i think that dogs still aren't good beginner pets, especially because training them wrong or not having enough time to spend with them can quickly cause huge problems
      Cats are far better as beginner pets, they are basically like dogs but without the need to go out with them several times a day, without the need to train them and in most cases without the need to bath them, they do it themselves

    Fun fact. No animal is simple. First you need to find a healthy, well bred dog (unless you go the shelter route, then you need to be prepaired for any health or mental complications) then you need the appropriate diet, then you need to start desensitising your dog, training your dog etc then depensing on your breed they may need extra grooming or walks. And the list goes on. Most dogs arent kept correct.

With fish and reptiles, you actually have to create and maintain an entire environment/ecosystem that mimics the one they are designed for. It’s a challenge to do it the right way, but when you take on these creatures, you are making that commitment to them.

    I don't know why the information to take care of fish is so difficult to find. I even just recently learned the water chemistry for the nitrogen cycle, which I haven't seen in any video or blog article on google
    I have a tank that has really low ph and a high concentration of ammonia, and it isn't cycling. That's because the ammonia is actually a non-toxic ammonium, and beneficial bacteria doesn't eat ammonium. So, I've been trying to slowly raise my ph via raising my kh in order to turn the non-toxic ammonium into toxic ammonia for it to be eaten

    I’d probably go for bunnies or something, we had a bunny and the worst part was just cleaning his cage every now and then
    They clean themselves, are big enough to not need a caged area so they can roam the house freely like cats and dogs, have an easy diet (don’t feed them too many veggies those are snacks), actually quite easy to train
    Most won’t listen to their names though, it’s like a herbivore cat with anxiety. They KNOW their names they just decide not to listen. They know how to do tricks but only do it when they feel like it.
    They rarely get tired of pets but when they do they simply… walk away.
    I feel having herbivores is easier than carnivores or omnivores.
    I picked a bunny over a hamster and similar because they not only live longer but are also much bigger.
    That means you can let them roam your house without worry of losing them somewhere. (Our bunny did get stuck under the couch but we heard him squeak)
    And just make sure they’re away from any wires… and hair.

    Not to mention when someone says “beginner pet” it’s usually for a child or someone very inexperienced and we all know children aren’t exactly known for being responsible and caring pet owners. I’ve been caring for fish for over a year and it is a lot! I don’t even trust my 40 year old mom to take care of her own fish because she’s been telling me she wants her own Beta and she’s watched me take care of my beta and even sometimes helps.

    in my school there was an entire class about how to gain information, how to analyze information, about how you can use different sources and different media, but also about how to find problems in different situations, how to find the cause of the Problem and how to gather information in order to fix it and/or how to find help from others

    Goldfish seem like plants that actively find ways to kill themselves. Dogs are more energy-intensive, they need to be walked whether you're tired or not and some people get insanely energetic dogs for their lifestyles. But I have always said the reason I do better with dogs than plants is that dogs can tell you what they need whereas with plants you have to interpret them and figure it out. Fish seem the same way.
    The bottom line is that no one should get an animal just because it's easy, because no animal is easy over the course of months or years. Get the one that fits your needs and that you are invested enough in to keep going even when things are difficult.

    Fish on the other hand, you can’t know if their hungry, you can’t tell if their water quality is bad easily, you can’t easily catch sickness in early stages. Fish are not beginner pets.

    I believe dogs and cats are easier
    No offence to vets but when a cat or dog gets ill they can help whilst very few vets can help fish
    So that it’s up to us

    Also, Dogs have similar needs to humans, so if the environment and lifestyle is healthy for your dog, it’s healthy for you. A fish is completely alien, and goldfish are not even close to the simplest fish.

    Fish are NOT beginner pets you only get a fish when you get interested into the fish keeping hobby other than that DONT get a fish even for just 1 betta it’s expensive enough.

      Imo there’s no such thing as a “beginner pet”
      One should get a pet that they’ll be properly invested in, not because it’s (supposedly) easy to take care of

    Dogs are way more complex than "just walk them". Training proper behavior and having an actually good dog is more complex than a doing water tests to keep goldfish. The standard for a "good dog" is just so low - a dog that doesn't bark excessively at people or other dogs, doesn't pull on the lead, can behave calmly in various situations... This is a minimum that MANY dogs don't meet. Just like many goldfish owners might take poor care of their goldfish, most dog owners don't put proper time into their dog either. You're pushing false propaganda about dogs being low maintenance ("just walk them") while complaining about the same "just feed them and clean algae" position that has been made for goldfish owners. Both ideas of the quality of care required for the respective pet are ignorant.

  • @daymastery
    @daymastery 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don’t think there’s any singular “beginner pet” or “best pet” for everyone. All pets have specific care requirements that owners will need to take into consideration. Not everyone will be able to care for every animal. It’s important to do your research before getting a new pet to ensure you give it the best life possible.

    Hot take... pets of any kind aint easy to care for properly🤷 dogs are hard just as much as fish are... its not just "take it out on walk and feed it" they need to be groomed and they need to be trained constantly and need to be desensitized to everything... fish you need the proper water quality you need the proper food you need water changes... cats you need to desensitize you need to liter train need to get the proper food need to clean the literbox DAILY.... hamsters need proper food desensitizing and proper exercise and time out the cage... same with most small rodents... rats also need a play pen same with guiena pigs... PETS AINT EASY TO PROPERLY CARE FOR PERIOD DONT MATTER THE SPECIES

    If they really wanna get a "beginner" Pet that isn't a cat or dog i recommend the "Madagascar Hissing Cockroach", yes these are roaches but they are easy to care for and can handle rough handling, or even better, a cat or dog.
