@@ItsTrainBoy Train boy I recommend that you wrap the roof in electrical tape because at least that way it probably will hold down a bit lonigger and then the roof won't be 2 different height levels
I think it's very heartwarming, the idea of a Dad or Grandpa putting this together for their son/grandson; I can see it happening, and it's fascinating to look at But also sad, because it looks neglected, like it hasn't been played with recently, but was used a lot in it's heyday; it has such a retro feel
That shot with the stainz and Thomas together was wholesome. A grandfather and grandson with their little engines, and consists. I bet he'd be real touched to see that proudly up on display. Great video dude
It may be even older. I had one of those Nylint Thomases in the 80s. IIRC, there was some sort of mechanism that was supposed to sound like a chuff, but sounded more like a quack.
The body is a Merritt Toys Thomas from the UK very early 1980s after the TV show was released. They made this Thomas in various forms including a pull along, pull along shape sorter (similar to their Postman Pat and Fireman Sam ones) and even a battery operated set (which we used to have) which came with Annie, Clara Belle and track and was great for garden play. I believe your right about the switch on the roof but I can't remember if it was Thomas or Annie which was the motorized unit, sorry.
@TrainBoy I had this Thomas here in the UK. The removable rear on the bunker is where the battery holder was. It used four D sized batteries. It was motorised and the taped over hole on yours was the on/off switch. It only ever went forward but did have 6 blue wheels. It also came with Annie and Clarabel and track that was build in sections. The track was red, 6 inches wide and could be built to make a figure of 8. Interestingly the only comparison I can make about the full set I had that used this thomas you have is that it's basically a bigger version of trackmaster. I miss my set terribly as it was the first set I had and continously played with from the 1980s.
I've heard that the face is based off of the face used on the pilot model. As this toy was one of the first Thomas toys in the UK under Merit toys, its believed that the pilot face may have been used as reference as it was made THAT early! I believe there's some box art that has a model face that resembles the toy's face that wasn't seen on screen! Photoshop wasn't a thing in 84 so it must be legit but i don't know for sure. All this info was sourced from a twitter thread i saw once, i think it was ThomasTheorist or Nick Starwind, so to credit to them
Honestly, the only thing I would really change would be may be making his eyes a bit more white just to fix the fading, but even that kind of feels like it would take away from the vintage feel of the model.
What a lovely collection of g scale rolling stock, I am currently working on some custom rolling stock myself I hope to finish in the near future. Love seeing your g scale trains running.
What appeals to me about this is that is made from early Thomas merchandise and that gives it the prototype look that this could've been an actual piece of merchandise that existed at a time.
This was pretty cool to see. There’s so many toys I haven’t seen and to know this toy was crafted a bit is super awesome! Seeing it run along the tracks made me grin!
Hello there train king I always tune in to your prestigious videos when they are released to the public for our viewing pleasure in short these are the best
Do what you think is appropriate as a craftsman. Whoever put that together did so with homely love and care. But I also bet that whoever did make it would want it preserved and passed down. Refurbishing the details (touching up the paint, fixing some nonfunctional bits, etc) I think is definitely ok to do.
He’s adorable! I love it! I won a fan made gordon off eBay a few months ago. He needs a chassi, also g scale. For now, I have him staring at me. His faces r incredible, and I’m about to paint more faces for him.
@@Thomasremakes55 will do! I want to make it interesting. I have some mta fan rail n train show vids as well. I’m a busy lady, still havnt gotten to edit them yet lol
two things you could do to improve his appearance is color his eyebrows black and maybe paint his cylinders blue like the Strasburg DOWT engine. at first I thought it looked really cursed but he's starting to grow on me
You know, this Thomas looks kinda industrial, almost. Thomas's stocky build plus the 0-4-0 configuration and all that. Kinda makes me think of industrial locomotives a little. This thing definitely has a lot of soul oozing from it, though I hope the soul wasn't taken from someone else. All jokes aside, you can really tell a lot of heart was put into this.
I used to have the original red railway Thomas, I don't recall it having any shapes to go into it...(but it might have been I can't remember) I deffo remember the fake coal as being original though as I think that survived round my parents house for years. I had the Percy as well and some trucks for it, it was great
Lot of charm to it :) Yeah any touch ups should be in keeping with the original work I think? Hopefully whoever built it would appreciate that it has a loving home and still goes!
Actually , @TrainBoy, there was another thomas Shape Sorter toy produced by a Company Called MERIT , and it was produced In 1985 , the way you can tell the difference between merit and nylint , nylint has a TVS Season 1 Face While MERIT Has A RWS Face .
Honestly...I think this little Guy look's pretty dope,I mean he's special in his own way; He kinda remind's me of the puffing Billy day out with Thomas engine, really Chubby but awesow really charming,Nice purchase.
I seen a custom or Scratch-builded Thomas and Percy model at a garden railway as of a model Dutch village holland in Coffs Harbour called the clog barn NSW.
my bet is this was bought originally with the intent of using it on a garden railway. Like, it wasn't bought then played with then converted, I think it was bought then converted then played with. Some dad or grandpa that wanted to get their kid a Thomas to play with on their garden railway, but couldn't or wouldn't pay for an expensive model.
Could you do a video brainstorming how you can use your model trains to help with chores, storage, and transport of things around the house? There is a guy on TH-cam who rigged up a railway in their office that delivers coffee to their desk, so that is the inspiration.
Wha- Excuse me?! Playmobil? Like that Lego-esc toy that never hit-off made Thomas stuff? Now, Where is the Lionel G-Scale 1990s Thomas review? tb looking like handsome squidward tho..
Love the g scale Thomas Train Boy. Also I have my own cursed g scale Thomas. I found it on eBay. It’s a Lionel g scale Thomas on an old play mobile chassis. With no side rods. It doesn’t work but I do plan to restore it.
Hey trainboy just want you to know while looking for a nylint 5homas I found on with a big stop and go button that takes batteries andit looks like one that kinda rolls around the room and spins 180 degrees
Found it just a couple of days ago in a tote in my basement. Missing the roof on the cab, though. Had to repaint the eyes years ago since the original eye stickers were gone.
Hey trainboy, this has nothing to do with the video but I feel like this needs to be said. What if the mysterious yellow engine with the broken lamp from the blue mountain mystery movie wasn’t victor, but it was actually protius. IT WOULD MAKE SO MUCH MORE SENSE I TELL YOU
Hi i like ur vids its so awesome to see ur very recent vids u lierally inspired me to take a broken bachman diesel into a thomas it looks hilarious ps i need to make that
This is too blessed to call it “Cursed Merch”. Knock off it may be, but adorable and soul it has
EXACTLY.
Now for his FRIEND I plan to make? 50/50.
I think there’s a term for this…
I would call it “blursed”…
Yup.

DOWT in model form. This is just so wholesome and cute. Love that engine a lot.
Thomas saying fuck you I think its hilarious really caught me off guard

There’s honestly something so charming about this, especially if it is a story of a parental figure and child bonding through it.
This is bang on accurate Puffing Billy Thomas
Fun fact Thomas did actually appear in South Park as a toy with Timmy ridding him to deliver newspapers, just thought that was cool lol
I wasn't prepared for that story with the officer lmao
This is the definition of fun.
This is by far one of the most fun customs I've ever seen.

"Fuck you I think it's hilarious, how do you like that?" to good for its own good..
The Playmobil engine is from a time where LGB and Playmobil worked together so its basicly a LGB Thomas
I was caught off guard by "fuck you I think It's hilarious" that was brilliant great content as always keep up the good work.
Can’t you feel those 90’s Thomas vibes?
Yes
That Thomas sparks so much nostalgic vibes
Yeah, my brother had one when we were little 😊
I think coloring his eyebrows will give him his full Railway series smile

The inputs are really outputs. LGB produced sound generator vans that connect with the engines via teo cables.

I was the one who dubbed him as “South Park Thomas” haha. The big-boned boy is a welcome edition to the collection for sure!
A very neat custom indeed. Love that classic series Thomas face especially.

Personally I don't think it should be modified, its already appealing for a home made engine
Or doing that method of cleaning the yellowing
If you were in a room alone with that Thomas and Bachman Thomas ran in the door you would’ve smashed Bachman Thomas with this GIGACHAD Thomas
