This is great, I'm 22 and I was wearing bad shoes for a year which lead to a bunion forming. It seems I can still reverse it! Thank you guys and God bless you!

Actually most of the shoes we would fine in retail are just bad for our feet. Since I started wearing hoka shoes I’ve had less pain/problems.

Ordered the Correct Toes spacers after watching this episode and am really happy with how comfortable they are - I forget I’m wearing them! I’ve tried other spacers in the past but could only wear them temporarily because they felt so bulky. These are perfect. Thank you for always informing us viewers of options out there. Wishing you all a healthy and happy new year! 🎉😊

He's probably hoping you'll need surgery in the future, because it's more money in that for him. Remember, in healthcare, the money isn't in the cure, it's in the treatment.

After 4 unsuccessful surgeries there is probably no hope for me anymore. The toes on both of my feet are now deformed. I wish l found out this information before I opted for my first surgery. I can't bend my big toe on my right foot anymore. They put some sort of "jacket" around the inside of my big toe during one of my surgeries. I also had a pin inserted in my left second toe which broke during my healing process. Now the toe on that foot points upward and the doctor left the broken pin in there. I used to run 12 miles a day when l was younger. Wish l could send you pictures of the deformities in both of my feet and how they are so different and out of sync. I feel this is connected to the excruciating back pain l endure every morning when l get out of bed. It seems like my feet were operated on in the books of experimental purposes except l pay the price of the pain l endure every day because of all of my surgeries.

If you are of a certain age (cough), have large size feet, and if you wanted to wear stylish shoes, properly fit shoes were not easy to come by in our younger days. Anyway, I blame sizeism for my bunion! Now that I don't give a hoot about style on my feet, I could get properly fitting shoes if I wanted. I am in quite a lot of pain but do not want surgery, so I am on the hunt for these spacers.

I think the general rule is the big toe should be pointing straight forward. A shoe with a more square shaped/wider toe box rather than tapered is considered healthy.

I think our 14 year-old son has bunions. We adopted him as an infant and I just thought he had really ugly feet, LOL. Now, I think he may have bunions (he's always worn XW sneakers which can be hard to find). He has all kinds of other issues (Down syndrome, Autism, and is non-verbal) and I honestly don't know if we could get him to wear spacers or do the stretches, but it's worth a try! I guess I'll check the doctor's website and go from there. Thanks for posting this!

Much respect to you for your full-fledged adoption of your son into family and keeping up with his various extra challenges as he grew. Your love for him shines through in your post. I'm hoping if it turns out he does have bunions, that he can get into doing the stretches or wearing spacers and reap the benefits.

My bunions corrected with the lockdown. After decades of cute heels with pointy toes, I had bunions on both feet. One day I realized thay after skipping those shoes, my feet were better!! Now I choose footwear carefully with lower heels and plenty of room in the toe box. I also walk barefoot as much as possible and purposely splay my toes as wide as I can. Probably about two years to get better and still good two years later.

Ì live in Canada and have a bunion on my right foot (big toe) and years ago a podiatrist told me to wear a bunion corrector and the exercise you mentioned but would take about two or three years to correct the bunion. Now that you said the same thing and all the negative facts from those who had the surgery including a cousin of mine that had the operation and the bunion came back, I will do the exercise and pull my big toe instead.

Spacers hurt to wear, but I like silicone cushioning on the bones when walking. Would love to see a video addressing metatarsalgia and capsulitis. I’ve bought good quality shoes, wider toe boxes, expensive arch supports, silicone toe sleeves and it’s not fixing the problem.

This was so good, i definitely always thought my little bunion was hereditary. Ive had it since i was a kid, probably noticed it around 5th or 6th grade. Im only just noticing that it looks a tad bit more inward so i want to get to correcting it even though its a very mild case. Even when you asked the question about only having it on one foot which i do, it made perfect since because im a little taller on my right side and thats the side of my bunion.

I am one of those Dr. McC talks about near the end who has a bunion on only one foot, my left. I have often wondered the same things he mentions; same shoes, why not both? I'm theorizing now that it probably has to do with gait, possibly originating with some compensation for reduced flexibility in that ankle from a sprain as a young teen.
The bunion is moderate, moveable, and not painful, but I want to fix it because I want the proper stability in that big-toe 'corner' of the triangle. It's kind of like having a tripod with one mushy leg.

    Genetics
    Not shoewear
I started wearing Birkies 90-100% of time 36yrs ago
    Didn’t have bunions when started
My daughter has had them bad since 15 yo. She’s 18.5 now n her bunions are as bad as mine at 58. She has pain from the bunion itself. I just get pain in my other toes from being pushed over so walking for 4 hrs sends shooting pain down into my foot.
Hers also causes calf spasms now at work (on feet whole time too)
She wore tight shoes maybe 5% of the time growing up.
I can only tolerate Birkies now. She’s almost there. Something accelerated it for her!
My 1 foot is just deformed, the other one is almost as bad.
We have very wide feet n high arches

How about Hallux Rigidus! I’m on a few FB groups for Hallux Rigidus. Lots of confusion on Cheilectomy, what to do if it fails, cortisone injections, do cartiva implants last since some fail quickly and surgeons may go right to fusions. Most importantly can a young, active still do yoga, push-ups, run, walk, lunges, calf raises post fusions. Let’s find a few active post fusion success stories.

This podiatrist had some older videos on using correct toes on early stages Hallux Rigidus. He said no to using them end stage grade 3 and 4 Hallux Rigidus for correct toes. What if we aren’t ready for a fusion being younger and active how would you work with correct toes and I’d their a new research on this area from his old videos for Hallux Rigidus?
How about shoes should we use Hoka Bondi shoes since they are and getting VKTRY insoles since they have research about their gold regular being better with compliance then hard metal insoles for the toe only. So, I use these but Hoka’s and insoles do get expensive.
Does PT do anything for late stages of Hallux Rigidus? Give us examples? Does PT help prehab and post op for Cheilectomy, implants, and fusions?
How about the dangers of laying prone doing MDT pressure with Hallux Rigidus?

I’m also a runner and I run with my toe spacer on. It was hard at first but now I’ve gotten use to it. Praying it doesn’t get any bigger. BTW I was told that if you had a broken toe in the past that might be the case of why you have a bunion. Which in my case my second toe on my left foot had been broken years before. Don’t know if that’s true or not. But that’s what I was told. 🤷🏽‍♀️😳

Injury prevention for all these people stating New Year workout resolutions without doing corrective exercise first? Hallux Rigidus, knees, shoulders, and back work.
And injury prevention for longterm PT exercises to prevent overuse. My slap tear was managed for 10 years until I did MDT press ups for the back and lunges for knee health I got Hallux Rigidus. Should we cycle our longterm PT workouts after discharge from PT. You can neglect the rotator cuff muscles in the gym after shoulder surgery. Same with the foot.
Let’s cover this stuff for the New Year Exercise people since a lot will get hurt Training then stop working out versus working out around injuries.

How do we prevent toe issues as an athlete? Runners, Ballet, or football players getting turf toe. A ton of videos should be focused on preventive toe issues and like he mentioned a kinetic chain assessments. I want him on the shoe to discuss this topic since all of the good videos focus on bunions or a few years old on Hallux Rigidus. And being a guy let’s also discuss orthotics and dress shoe wear.
