    SOME INFORMATION
💎 I'm Still Here is the first Portuguese-spoken movie to be nominated to the Oscar of Best Picture and the sixth that was nominated to Best Foreign Language Film (the fifth representing Brazil).
💎 Fernanda Torres's mother, Fernanda Montenegro was the first latin actress nominated to the Oscar of Best Actress (Katy Jurado, Rita Moreno and Norma Aleandro had already been nominated as Supporting Actress) and, to date, she was the only Portuguese-spoken actor nominated to the award, but her daughter just repeated this. That was in 1999, with the movie Central Station, also directed by Walter Salles and nominated to Best Foreign Language Film.
💎 Fernanda Torres, Selton Mello and Fernanda Montenegro played in Four Days in Septemper, brazilian movie nominated to the Oscar of Best Foreign Language Film in 1998, also about brazilian dictatorship period.
💎 Fernanda Torres, aged 20, won the award for Best Actress at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival by the movie Love Me Forever or Never (tied with Barbara Sukowa, by Rosa Luxemburg). She was the first brazilian actress (of two) to win an award in Cannes. The second one was Sandra Corveloni that, coincidentally, was directed by Walter Salles.
💎 Fernanda Torres was the fourth brazilian actor nominated to Golden Globe, but the second with a Portuguese-spoken performance. The first one was her mother. The other nominees were Sônia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman, Moon Over Parador and The Burning Season) and Wagner Moura (Narcos).
💎 Fernando Torres, father of Fernanda Torres (yes, they got the same name), played in Kiss of Spider Woman (4 nominations to the Oscar 1986, William Hurt won Best Actor)
💎 I'm Still Here is the fourth movie of Walter Salles to be nominated to the Golden Globe of Best Foreign Language Film (Central Station won, and the other nominees were Behind the Sun and Motorcycle Diaries) and the second nominated to the Oscar of the same category (Central Station was the first)
💎 Fernanda Torres gained a pop star quality in Brazil because her performances in the sitcoms Normal People and Slaps and Kisses.

Is important people to know that the military coup in Brazil was created, planned and financed by US, so winning the most popular US prize talking about the history of what US did not only in Brazil but in many other countries would also be poetic. I'm brazilian and I know many movies that could win oscars that were snob by the Academy, same in many other countries, same way I know there are a lot of talented actually mexican actors in Mexico that could be in Emilia Pérez, and better writers too... the word is changing and this type of eurocentric and murican centric way to see media is not accepted anymore.

OK, your review made me cry! Thank you so much for understanding and explaining so well why we are so passionate about this film! The entire country stopped on nomination day to watch and root for the International Feature and Best Leading Actress nominations. But we never even dreamed it would be nominated for Best Picture. When it happened, we knew that many more people would watch the film because of this, and that's amazing!
The crimes committed during the military dictatorship remain unresolved. The military officers accused of these crimes have never been brought to justice. In 2016, Ex President Dilma Rousseff suffered an unfair impeachment. During the vote, ex president Jair Bolsonaro, who was a congressman at the time, declared his vote by saying:
'In memory of Colonel Carlos Alberto Brilhante Ustra, the terror of Dilma Rousseff, for the army of Caxias, for the Armed Forces, for Brazil above all, and for God above all, my vote is yes.'. Brilhante Ustra was one of Dilma Rousseff's torturers. During her time as president, she established the Truth Commission, which was responsible for investigating the crimes committed during the dictatorship.
This colonel was one of the most brutal torturers and, by the way, was one of the commanders of DOI-CODI, the military prison where Rubens, Eunice, and their daughter were taken.
Now, the world is learning a little more about the horrors that took place during this dark period of our history. Thank you so much for helping spread the word!

Recovering memory is urgent, especially in times like these. In addition to Fernanda Montenegro and Fernanda Torres, who are brilliant, we have many other actresses and actors, directors and incredible films to share with the world. Brazil is a beautiful country, but also very complex. And it is great to see it being portrayed so impeccably as in I'm Still Here. I hope these statuettes come our way! You know, the director Walter Salles knew the Paiva family. He used to go to that house because he was a friend of one of the daughters.
Marcelo Rubens Paiva is Rubens and Eunice's son and he decided to wrote the book to preserve such a precious story that his mother was beginnig to loose for the Alzheimer.
Once they've decided turn the book into a movie, Walter spent seven years studying that story and how to tell it.
And Fernanda Torres was not the first pick for the role of Eunice in the movie, but once she was chosen, it fitted more thar perfectly.

Fernanda Torres is an incredible and wonderful actress. She is the soul of the film I'm Still Here, which is right in opting for the protagonist's restraint, in everyday tragedy less is more, at a time when everything is spectacular and estrionic. Silence to understand the nuances.

  • @alexnoahllourenc5062
    @alexnoahllourenc5062 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +37

Fernanda Torres delivers an extraordinary performance in I’m Still Here, demonstrating her mastery of nuance, depth, and emotional intensity. With every scene, she captivates the audience, balancing raw vulnerability with a quiet strength that lingers long after the credits roll. Her ability to convey complex emotions with subtle expressions and precise timing is a testament to her artistic maturity and deep understanding of the craft.
What makes her portrayal truly remarkable is the authenticity she brings to the role-every gesture, every silence, every glance feels deeply lived-in, as if she is not merely performing but embodying the very essence of the character. This level of commitment transforms the film into an immersive experience, making it impossible to look away.
Her Golden Globe recognition is well deserved, not just as an acknowledgment of this singular performance but as a celebration of a career defined by excellence, fearlessness, and an unwavering dedication to storytelling. Hats off to Fernanda Torres. Amazing performance 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Congrats Brazil for this masterpiece 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

That award would have such a huge political impact here in Brazil as well, since we have just went through a coup attempt two years ago, perpetrated by a handful of military individuals that are metastasis from this very same malignant regime. The investigations ended and the evidences are overwhelming, and they are about to go to trial probably this year. Those people are also trying to rewrite history and deny the wrongs of the military dictatorship right now, and lots of people are buying it. The timing of the movie was (also) perfect!

Thank you for bringing back this memory. I understand little about cinema, as much as I loved and cried over this film, however, beyond all these restrictions and deserved recognition, what touches me most is seeing young people who have little idea of the impact of the military regime on Brazilian civil life, leaving the cinema crying and having the complaint that the path we should follow is alongside democracy. Art has always proven to be an excellent instrument of social transformation. Thank you ♥️

Thank you for the review, this film is very important for us Brazilians, a film that rescues a memory that was being lost, a memory that shows us what we should never return to. Eunice Paiva was an extraordinary woman who made her difference in the world, graduating as a lawyer at the age of over 45, fighting for human rights and the rights of the indigenous peoples of Brazil, Brazilian indigenous people owe a lot to Eunice who helped create several reserves that today protect the Amazon and the forests of Brazil that still remain. Fernanda performs in her gesture, her gaze and her contained pain. It shows the strength of this woman who, despite everything she went through, remained standing and raised her children and formed them with dignity and resilience. Fernanda didn't need to dishevel her hair to convey the feelings she wanted and that for a performance is something complex. Eunice died with Alzheimer's, her memory in life is gone, but in history her memory will remain alive forever

I’m glad you enjoyed the story of Still Here; I share the same feelings and experience as you! Walter’s direction is brilliant, and Fernanda Torres’ performance is simply impeccable. As David Fear wrote for Rolling Stone, "To say that Torres digs into the role of Eunice Paiva would be an understatement." It’s a film that has so much to say and says so much with so few words...

Congrats on this video! You are one of the first people who are saying directly what many already feel. I’m Still Here is a fantastic movie and should win the best picture this year. About the Fernanda Torres performance, I only have to say it is fantastic! She (and her mother) should win this time, undoubtedly.
