In figuring out how to play my old systems, I was deciding between AV to HDMI converters, using my PC as an emulator, or getting a Shield. I think I'll get the Shield Pro because of the AI Upscale technology and that it can be played on a TV. I know it's not the same as my original systems but having an all-in-one (with one supported controller) will be super convenient. Thanks for the video.
If you have an Xbox or PS4 controller you can sync them up to the shield via Bluetooth as well
Hey about the latency you mention.. you can just turn on run ahead on retroarch. The shield is more than capable of running 2 instances of the game at once.
He's using hyperspin, not retroarch.
ive just been watching this today, looks all good but with the certain games and consoles not working the stand alone emulators can sometimes be better

Followed the tutorials up to core downloads,
The reicast core is no longer available
I have downloaded the flycast core but when I try loading a dreamcast game hyperspin crashes to main screen
If anyone has any ideas how to fix this it will be much appreciated

So I just tried this on the new 9.1.1 build with modified hyperspin APK. Got it loading some games. Looks promising, hopefully someone in this community has some fixes to revive this gem.

im looking for a TV box type device ,the shield came up & then i hit on your video about the game emulator which is another thingy i had my thoughts / eyes on SO ; Can this emulator ( the shield ) have two player playing at once ? How ? the controllers ; what do i have to get to play two players at same time (if it is possible ) ? All and any info on emulators that can EASELY be setup and work in a way that it is not just a FRUSTRATION machine like some i sent to recycling . Thanks and Regards CR
I'm getting my roms to run in the standalone emulators and even retroarch but every time I try to launch hyperspin it just tries once and goes back to the Shield's home screen. I've got the emulators/cores downloaded that Bandit suggested and my roms are in folders inside the hyperspin folder on my external HD. Can you think of any steps I may have missed or why it's doing this? Do I need to map my shield to my external HD somehow so Hyperspin knows where to look for my roms?
Iam having the same problem I have done some research and found that it might need an update or the download might need to be tweaked either way mr. Rabbits instructions are clear and vague at the same time....so if you can get it to work let me know please

This is a nice alternative to some of the more popular methods! Plus with the latest update you can use a new Xbox and PS5 controllers on the Shield😎

Nvidia shield just got an update to 9.1.1 and claims to Fixes bug where files were not detected properly on connected removable storage. Could this be the fix we needed to get this working again.
HELP!! I downloaded the arcade punks to a external hard drive and when I hooked it up to the shield, the shield said it needed to format the external hard drive, so after it formatted it, it deleted the arcade punks, and now with it formatted I can't re-download arcade punks onto the hard drive because it isn't formatted for my pc now. thanks for the video. I have a shield pro 2019 and sandisk extreme pro 1 tb usb 3.2. I accomplished to setup. It runs most of the games. But when I tried to play Tekken 2 or 3 it failed. When I tried to run Tekken 1 (the older version ) graphics comes but very slowly. What can be the problem?

I downloaded the 200GB bandit no clutter collection pack and I didn’t really get to know how to load them into the retrarch ?? Hyperspin also is not working at the moment not sure if you know that ? Are you supposed to play the games on the retroarch app or on the hyperspin app im really confused I watched bandit but didn’t really help at all. He seems like he did put so much work into this project but really didn’t show how to install it properly from A to Z !
Link doesnt exist now, not happy, i had to delete all 200gb off my harddrive because the nvidia wouldnt read it, i then formatted the harddrive and went back to download the 200gb again and theres no link :(

Can the Nvidia Pro emulate any video console, even the newer ones?
no, even though the Shield is a very powerful device it lacks the specs newer game systems require. There are no emulators for 9th gen ( ps5 and xbox series s/x) let alone stable emulation for 8th gen consoles ( ps4 and xbox one). Higher end pc's have trouble emulating ps3 even . Best you're going to get for Shield is ps2 and original xbox .

Hm, no dude, no. Are you serious?! Even mobile chips are starting to be able to emulate it, for Christ sake!
ANY entry level gaming PC will have ZERO issues running RPCS3. I even own a handheld that can emulate PS3!
Otherwise, the rest of what you mentioned is true and informative for those who know nothing about emulation.
But the PS3 part, ouch man, ouch...
EDIT: I was wrong, there are other stuff that are wrong as well. If it's not a subject that you know well, why did you decide to talk trough your hat like that? No, really, I am interested to know the answer, because it is something that I never understood but is constantly done by MANY people...
But yeah, the ONE exemple you gave is the worst. OG Xbox emulation is still extremely primitive compared to all other 6th gen consoles, and thus, it will NOT run well (or at all) on the Shield pro.
Also, it is not true that shield can emulate only up to the 6th gen (excluding OG Xbox), since Wii (a 7th gen console) emulation works quite well...
@@Ego-Fiend It can emulate Dreamcast, GameCube, PS2, and basically everything that came before those consoles (so 6th gen and below). But it can also run A LOT of Wii games, which is a 7th gen console. One of the exceptions might be the OG Xbox, but it would be more an issue with the available emulator than the Shield Pro (the Xbox emulation scene is extremely small compared to all other 6 gen consoles).

It's a shame Hyperspin might be abandoned. Dev hasn't updated it to work on the newer Shield updates

I haven't been able to use the upscale feature myself within the shield. I know with certain stand alone emulator (redream) you can change the upscaling within the emulator itself

wouldn't recommend doing both at the same time however you could do one at a time and just switch between them
I am completely lost! I am a novice at this, and nothing is working. I watched both videos, and I just seem to be missing steps because my Retro Arch screen doesn't look the same, and the cores don't install. These two videos are not made for a novice.

After the update with the advertisement banner on the home screen, id honestly like to dump the entire shield set up, turn it into a basic android box and install the apps i use... which doesnt include the gaming service they offer. They killed this thing

Did you figure out how to get dreamcast to work? I installed everything just like the tutorial showed but can't get dreamcast to load.
Is it using retroarch to emulate dreamcast? I had some problem when I recently upgraded to retroarch plus, all my dreamcast and naomi/atomiswave stop working on my android devices, workaround is to download the older version of 64 or 32 bit of retroarch, if the problem persists, you will also have to get and install an older flycast core, it worked for me. I have never used hyperspin front end but if you are able to set wich emulator runs the dreamcast roms and you are interested only in dreamcast chd or cdi formats then reedream stand alone emulator does a great job and good alternative to retroarch, since I also wanted to run .zip arcade naomi/atomiswave it was not an option and had go go trough the headache of setting a working version of retroarch.
