    You folks did an outstanding restoration on the Duncan Phyfe dining table and chairs. So many others on TH-cam just paint expensive/vintage furniture either white or black and call that an improvement. I want to try Gel Stains on a few pieces I've thrifted. I also want to try the furniture restorer mentioned in the video as it can be applied to pieces without extensive prep work. I look forward to discovering more of your channel.

    Beautiful job!! You did good to not remove the caps on the table legs, and just tape them off. I recently restored two DP end tables and decided to take those caps off to clean and polish them.
    As Pretty Woman said, “Big mistake. Huge.” I don’t know which was harder, taking them off or putting them back on, not to mention the gouges I had to repair afterwards.
    My guess is $625 for the set. I hope you get it.

    It turned out gorgeous, Kara! I was just contacted by a potential client who wants us to paint her Duncan Phyfe table and 6 chairs. Dani and I are discussing about whether or not to take that job as table and chairs are a lot of work to do them right and not sure how I feel about painting the entire set. We haven't tried General Finishes gel stain yet. Do you like it better than Minwax's line? - Sherry

      Thank you! Yes it’s a lot of work for sure. I think GF is more forgiving than minwax. I feel like minwax shows any imperfections. GF Is definitely richer colors so it leaves such a nice finish. Have a great thanksgiving!

    Well, first off, my compliments on the finished product. You did a great job bringing that wood back to life. I get such satisfaction watching those heat marks, stains, and nicks disappear. Now it's ready for another 40 years of service.
    Pricing is regional, so I can only guess at the price your community will value this. Here in North Florida, shop tools and barn implements sell for more than fine china and solid wood furniture. So in my area, I would ask $300. In Texas, I'm guessing you folks are a little more appreciative of the nicer things. I think you'll get $500 for it. I'm super interested to know what you sell it for.

  • @tableflippinghousewife

    Beautiful! What a labor of love! I’M laboring over what sander to get. Festool or Surfprep? So I’m wondering why you started sanding with a rotary sander instead of doing all of it with your Surfprep If you could do it again, would you still get a Surfprep or would you get a Festool?

    • @LemonstoLemonadeFurniture
      @LemonstoLemonadeFurniture  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh the amount of times I have pondered that decision! Ok so- when I bough the surfprep, the Festool wasn't in the budget. However, they are two completely different sanders. Instead of the big investment in a Festool, I landed on the larger Makita Oribtal and I am so glad I did. It is a workhorse and I get through a finish very quickly. Attaches to my shop vac ect. Festool no longer needed (in my opinion). Surfprep, I use all of the time for small areas and square edges that a round sander can not access. The foam pad to get in the crevasses saves me soooo much hand sanding time....and I hate to hand sand! So I guess my answer is....if you do this all the time, you need both! lol! BUT there are products that will get you a very similar Festool effect. The Surfprep is unmatched by anything I have seen at this point! Hope that is helpful! Thank you so much for watching!

    • @tableflippinghousewife
      @tableflippinghousewife 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LemonstoLemonadeFurniture thank you sooo much. I have scoured info on a comparison between the two. Lily Moon had a good video and she favored the Festool. But it helps immensely to get your opinion. I will likely look for something similar to your Makita and then land on the Surfprep. Thank you! And Happy Thanksgiving!

    The restore a finish is okay for under the poly? 🤔 Out prices in south fl are lower - hard to get much on FB! I hope you got at least $550!

    • @LemonstoLemonadeFurniture
      @LemonstoLemonadeFurniture  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did let it dry for 2 days and should have mentioned that. But my dilemma was, do I poly and have that settle in the scratches and dents that I need the restore a finish to brighten up or do I gamble and restore a finish first to cover the scratches, lots of dry time and then poly? It seems to have worked! It's still here ( lol unfortunately!) and I don't see any issues, looks like factory finish, so- so far I think I went the right direction. Thanks for the watch! Hope to see you back next week!

  • @rockshot100
    @rockshot100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Lady tie that hair back completely when using that sander! Don't scare us like that.
    So you just poly coated over everything, including the restore a finish? No light scuffing of the existing varnish? This is great because you won't get those water marks again.
    Funny when I saw the original fabric, I thought it was too much like the wood color. That navy pattern is perfect, updated but not too trendy. Is that an upholstery fabric, or just a good canvas?
    I have always wondered why in the original finish they tried to obscure the woodgrain so much, maybe because of the many different kinds of wood in the same piece? BTW, you were really lucky that the new stain really looks like an exact match.

    • @LemonstoLemonadeFurniture
      @LemonstoLemonadeFurniture  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol Ok OK point taken!! hahah It was upholstery fabric. Yes it was def different types of woods all pieced together. I didn't scuff the parts I didn't sand and my thinking behind it was I didn't want any scuff marks to show with that super shine poly. I let the restore a finish dry for 2 days (which I should have mentioned) and looked it over. Once the shiny poly was on...BOOM looked just like the factory finish. I don't know. I'm open to suggestions if I should have sanded it. and yes the Candlelight was perfect!

      @@LemonstoLemonadeFurniture In the future, maybe you need adult supervision?
      But what a great idea! I do know that a very strong solution of ORIGIAL TSP will knock the very top off of most finishes to give it some "tooth" for the new finish to adhere. So that is not even needed, what a time saver. I love this and you both Lemons. Thanks for answering my questions. As I said, it was also a great mistake that the chairs don't match exactly, it is so much more interesting.

    Thank you for using stain. I am very uninterested in watching furniture flippers take a beautiful piece of wood furniture and slapping some paint all over it. To me, paint is easy. Stain is challenging. So thank you for stepping up to the challenge of honoring the beauty of the original piece. That doesn't mean that a flipper cannot change hardware, change cushion colors, paint drawers if they are ruined, or add a touch of "new" to a piece but covering a barely damaged wood piece with paint is an easy way out.
