  • A camera I've had before. Is it still a reasonable choice in 2023?
    Guildford stills and B-roll from the GX1 taken on the 12th December 2023.
    "Studio" footage filmed with the Olympus E-M1 mk2 (and partly the Lumix G80) on the 14th December 2023.

    Sandwiched between the seven and nine I love my GX8 with its larger form factor, weather sealing, 20mp and tilt-able viewfinder I’m a happy camper. Cheers✌️🎄🇦🇺

      I haven't really looked too much at the GX8 although it seems to get a lot of very positive reviews. I have a GX7 which is a whole generation more advanced than the GX1 and really bears so little resemblance to the GX1 that it's difficult to consider it part of the same "line" of cameras. I'm still amazed the GX1 can do as much as it can.

      I'm sure you won't be disappointed. For the size, weight and price they are a great camera.

    I have the preceding GF1. It too is a pretty decent compact. I have the 20mm attached. The 15mm would be my preferred focal length.

      The GF1 is a really good camera - solid build quality and I liked having the physical switch for the self timer. I bought my first GF1 BECAUSE it had the 20mm lens attached! I still use the 20mm but sold a copy of the Lumix 14mm in favour of the Pana-Leica 15mm. All of this is good kit that won't hold you back!

      @@stevieb7121 Yes, It’s a great walk around. I still prefer film and shoot a Mamiya7, Hassy 500CM and a few 35mm’s but people shouldn’t disregard micro4/3

    Nice little camera 📷
    I have the lumix G3 which I believe shares the same 16mp sensor as the GX1 but the G3 has a nice EVF and fully articulating LCD which I use both features a lot.👍

      Yeah, I loved my G3 when I had it a few years ago. Certainly one of my favourite M43 cameras - so small, light and versatile. I have some very large prints in frames from the G3 - it's no slouch when it comes to image quality. If I had the room to keep everything, I'd still have a G3!
      Thanks for watching!

      Yep the G3 is somehow cheaper but it does have the same EVF and touch screen of the GX1. Very underrated camera!

    • @pdtech4524
      @pdtech4524 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@ShutterKnack I like the smaller size and weight also, compared to the next iteration, the G5 that came a year later, also had a 16mp sensor, albeit slightly better dynamic range and ISO sensitivity but the camera went bigger and heavier as a result.
      I thought the GX1 didn't have an EVF wasn't it sold separately?😊
      I paid just £45 for mine, it's absolutely mint and it came with the g-vario 14-42 zoom lens, bag etc 😲😳

      @ShutterKnack 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pdtech4524 yep I meant the GX1's optional viewfinder (LVF2) has the same LCD panel as the G3 at least to my eyes. I have both. I also sold the LVF2 because it is just too bulky and defeats the purpose of having the GX1 at the first place.
      Got my G3 from a neighbour with 2 zoom lenses. Sold the 2 zoom lenses and got the 20mm 1.7. Overall, it cost me just 60 euros. My G1X came with the PZ 14-42mm for 60 EUR shipped. I really can't believe one can get these cameras for this cheap nowadays. Total bargain!

    With a lumix 20mm it’s great for portraits, especially outside.

    The GX-1 suffers from a delaminating rear screen which makes finding a good example a bit difficult.

    • @stevieb7121
      @stevieb7121  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the previous example I had showed some kind of spider patterns across the screen. You couldn't see the pattern when the screen was powered on though, so it was more of an aesthetic issue.

    I'm not a Lumix shooter. Just commenting for the Al(Gore)rhythm.
    And the fact that there is no grating, repeating noise (erm, music), looping in the background.

      Thanks! Yes, I can find the 'background audio' annoying in videos at times.....
      Lumix cameras are great - you should give them a try! Although other brand's cameras are great too.....

      @@stevieb7121 thank you Stevie, for the reply.
      Most of the cameras, released in the last decade (and even some before), have been quite good instruments. I would agree, that the Lumix - whether they fall into the micro4thirds category or full-frame - would be really good.
      I do like the look and features of the Lumix BS1H, especially that it can be configured to meet my particular needs for personal video work (streaming, mostly).
      At the moment I shoot film. I have the Nikon Nikomat, the S3 2000 Limited Edition, and the Hasselblad 503cx. I would only need something for video, but I haven't decided yet, which camera to go with.
      I do have Zeiss Classic lenses and a few Zeiss Milvus ones, in Nikon F-mount, and I would want to just continue with them for video.
      It is getting to be an interesting year, this 2024.
      Merry Christmas Stevie!
