Glad you mentioned the EVF. I find that I depend on using an EVF. That is why I have tried using a Ricoh GRiii and couldn’t get use to just using the LCD. As you point out, the portable EVF is as expensive as the GX1 body. That is very strange.
This small body has tiny battery. If going out for a day of shooting it is necessary to bring spares. Fortunately 2nd party batteries are cheap and light.
I own a GX1 with the viewfinder but haven’t used it in a while. At the moment I’m in love with the GX1’s grandchildren, the GX85/9. Took them to NYC for a week of street photography. I love the small LUMIX primes but have been using the kit 12-60 lens on these bodies. Can’t beat the choice of focal lengths offered by this lens.

You are correct about the battery. Aftermarket batteries are very inexpensive.

Hi, I bought the gx1 some months ago and find it a real treat to use. Thanks for your presentation

I've had a couple of GX1s and will probably always have one in my collection. I think it was ahead of its time in terms of size and quality. That's both build quality and image quality. I often use mine with the Lumix 20mm f1.7 as it seems just right for me. It also pairs well with the Pana-Leica 15mm f1.7 is you like the 28mm equivalent field of view. I've had the EVF twice and sold it twice! I just didn't get along with it. Enjoyed your review!

Love the GX1. It is the camera that helped me move from film to digital.

Just got a Gx1 for a compact setup, still need to get the EVF though. I am really pleased with the pictures coming out of it. Great video review

The EVF is surprisingly good and way ahead of its time. I hope you like it.

Nice to see your micro four thirds videos, and the classic GX1. I have a GF1, and am hoping buy a 20mm lens for it.
Thanks for the info on the Brighten Star lens, might have to look into that.

You are very welcome. The Olympus 25mm f1.8 is also an excellent lens.

I will also review (if you call what I am doing a review) the Lumix G9, GH6 and the OM-1

@@billmassey3458 The G9 is a super body. Bought it new and have used it extensively. The only thing it lacks is PDAF which the G9ii has. The contrast based DFD is more than adequate for photography. The G9 is a large body for M43 but isn’t heavy. At $5-550 it is a screaming deal.

Great review. I'm still using my GX1 as my main camera. my favorite sub 100$ lens is the tinny 14mm 2.5.

I have owned the Olympus 12mm for years, and it is outstanding. Larger, but still small by any non micro four thirds standard. I may pick up the 14mm. Just saw one on EBAY for $88. Thanks for the tip.

I still have the GX1, debating selling it as I find my Olympus E-PM2 is a little better, more compact, better at jpegs, and also has IBIS although the E-PM2 controls are a bit trickier than the nice switches and buttons of the GX1. The E-PM2 was a Mini though, built more as a compact camera replacement with more sophistication than a P+S, whereas the GX1 was an enthusiast mode. Have you tried any of the Olympus alternatives to the GX1 like the E-PM2 or more likely the E-PL5 or E-P5? Olympus made some great bodies with IBIS that took Panasonic a few more years to catch up to, and adding the Lumix 20 1.7 lens to the IBIS equipped bodies is an extra win. Thanks for the video.

I have a PEN EP-5. It has the advantage of sensor based image stabilization. I also like the fact that the screen pops out on an angle. It is a little bigger and heavier than the GX1 and generally more expensive used, but it is a better camera. In an upcoming video, I will be describing how to use optical viewfinders with both of these cameras as well as the Canon M6 Mark II>

Thanks for this video. I would love a review about your brightin star 35mm. How good is it wide open?

    • @uncunvenchunalwisdom
      @uncunvenchunalwisdom  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

I will do a video on the Brightin Star 35mm. It is a .95 f stop, so the focus plane is very small. It is reasonably sharp at the focus point but can be made really sharp with tools such as Topaz Labs Photo AI or Sharpening AI.

I have been traveling and sick for an extended period, so my video production as fallen off a cliff. I am going to make a video showing how to use optical viewfinders with the GX1 and several other cameras. I will show photos taken with the GX1 in that video.
