It happened to me on the desktop the first time I watched it, too. The second time I tried it was ok, go figure. On mobile it was ok. Conor, I understand you, I too do think Jimi Vietzke is f🕱💀king cool and looks great, I wished I could produce such an impact entering a room like he must do. But, you do have your own distinct, cool look, don't let yourself down comparing yourself too much against other Super-Goths. I settled on a restrained corp-goth look for myself because I'm terrible at haidressing and makeup, they take me way too long a time for a miserable outcome, I do feel the unease (if not disdain) people throw at me when I let myself go "too much" into Goth, even in my own family. But you? You do not look like to be bothered by any of these, you just developed your personal Goth style which I'm sure a lot of people would die to be able to come close to (at least I do). Do not feel other Goths' look is demeaning yours, they are not. Most people do worse when they overly push themselves at imitating other people than when they just cast a glance at what others could come up with and then say: "Oh well, no bad. But this is what I'm going to look like tonight!" and come up with something very different yet unique and fascinating. And, again, you do look and feel extraordinarily cool and at ease with your Goth style! Change it as much as you like to fit your whim, but do not ruin it trying to follow the style of others that are just not like you. I wonder how would a Goth look like if he did a makeup over a beard. I might do that once I have an evening to waste and I'll let the Goth world know how awful that looked like. 😝 That Lynn can complete her makeup in 45 minutes or less and get such a result stuns me. I feel like I am retarded. I do sometimes get bothered by the way some people look (or stare) at me, but I understand it and accept it. After all, I do not want to be a Goth to be just like anybody else, I actually do enjoy feeling and showing like I was a completely different person compared to the mass! I identify as a goth, but I barely wear any make up. I use my wardrobe, accessories and hair to convey my style, but 95% of the time my face is totally bare. Make up is just not my jam, but I truly appreciate people who have the time, patience and skill to do their make up. 😉
Same! Been a goth since the late 80s and have never worn makeup (even normal makeup). It's just not my thing. I choose to express myself in my clothing, accessories, and hair colors (usually purple, blood red, etc).
You don't need to wear make up to be indentify as a Goth. Being Goth is an attitude. With your self-control, silence & lack of interest regarding the transient fashions of the World You show them that You are not going with that flow. The mayority of the World fear darkness because they by movies associate it with evil, but it's the complement of light. Darkness is the color of peace and quiteness, that's why most of the universe is in darkness.

There are plenty of people who dress like goths, but do not appreciate the music or other aspects of the subculture (and in my opinion, are not goth, just darkly inclined). Clothes are just a nice touch for those who like to express themselves more outwardly 🙂
I was a mall goth in the 90's in a tiny town in Oklahoma. My 6th grade teacher legitimately feared me putting a spell on her and it was the funniest thing EVER, lol.
I had a teacher in highschool that confessed to me that the first day of class she saw me and assumed I was going to be her problem student. She thought I looked like a witch and would be hard to deal with, but I ended up being her best student!
I remember seeing cyber Goths from Gothic Beauty magazines back in the day. Unfortunately, I don't live in a town big enough to even cater to a Goth community (not even a neighborhood so much). But I too remember those cyber Goths with their wild colored pony falls (hair extensions), goggles and respirator masks that resembled gas masks. This was before the days of Steam punk goggles, etc. 🙂🦇
I'm a 47 year old guy and I have never been a Goth but I love seeing Goths out and about. I think they look awesome.I only wish there where more people walking about like that. Life would be a little more boring and bland without you guys.

Remember that this video was recorded on analog VHS so the colors are a bit off. There may have been a lot of incredibly pale looks with full cake makeup but trust me, if there had been true white foundations available at the time there would have been a LOT of people wearing it instead of the thick makeup. As a semi-goth kid of the 90's, this is pure nostalgia. for me. Back then, if you didn't live in or near a major city with a lot of specialty shops, the only option you were going to have was whatever you could find at Hot Topic, or you had to stock up on halloween make up. I never got that far into it, myself, but I did live just a bus and a boat ride away from Seattle, which had a huge goth movement at the time.
Just commented the same thing. Lol. In the 80's & 90's we used white grease paint 🎨 mixed with baby powder. We would hoard all the grease paint at Halloween since that was the only time that they sold it
I was (am) in Canada. We didn’t have hot topic. Ordering things online wasn’t a thing until later and even when it was it was sooo expensive. We either made things from scratch, thrifted and modified or gothed up new items. It’s so much easier now, which is awesome.
Connor you're one of the main reasons I feel inspired to wear make-up. All I do is eyeliner and eyeshadow but I feel the pain of everything you described. ESPECIALLY THE SHAVING. I have to typically shave every 3 days but shave every 2 weeks just because I can't stand the constant shaving process. You described the same exact facial hair issues and sensitive skin issues I have too so I'm glad you get it. Your effort is noticed and I salute you.

@@RandomGothCouple Personally I use the Gillette pro glide and I make sure to use shaving cream infused with aloe. It helps reduce the redness quicker than most shaving creams or gels. I also used coco butter/lotion one time when I forgot my shaving cream on vacation and it actually stopped any irritation and redness so if you're willing to experiment, maybe it's worth a try.
Hey guys, I have the same issues as you do, I'm a girl who doesn't have to shave the face lol, but I have to shave other body parts, I have the same problems as you say. What j do, that might be a tip is, before I use the razor I put a great amount of hair conditioner, yes believe me it helps a lot, plus you're going to wash ir after. After I finished shaving, I use a thick layer of Vaseline, Aquaphor or any baby ointment for rashes. It helps a lot. Ps: try not to use this creams for after shave, they use a lot of ingredients that are aggressive to the skin. I really hope it helps you. Hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷

The 90s was quite fun for goths! Wish I could still rock what I did back then. The club scene was so damn exciting as well. Was totally obsessed with rozz Williams Trent reznor and Peter Steele . There were so many styles and loved seeing each other like walking real life art .
Rozz was wonderful... Pete wasn't considered goth, but hung out at a goth club weekly (and no one cared) glowering with a goth girl half his height by the bar. Ah, Trent... well, nothing to say about him
Agreed, also think the 90's were the most popular times to be goth. New York city had a lot of goth clubs and gatherings, not so much nowadays unless they are there and I don't know about them.

I literally wouldn't listen to anything else... till I've heard 'The Angel And The Dark River' album from My Dying Bride. I’m a professional cake decorator, I like doing tiny detail work, but like, baking cakes, icing cakes, covering them with fondant…ugghhh lol. I love finishing them, I love presenting to them to people who get really excited about it, but a good part of the process is just…I don’t love it lol. My style back in the 90s, when I lived in San Fran was downright anti-goth. I mimicked a lot of the attire and the patterns of the makeup, but instead of being done in the neutrals of black, white and shades of grey, mine was in oversaturated bright colors with lots of fuchsia, purples and pinks. I was given the street name of "Anime Chic" from the style.
That was great! We would have someone stopping by our club (House of Usher) almost monthly to do some sort of piece on us which we always loved accommodating. I believe Hard Copy was indeed leaning to do exactly as you said, an IWTV tie in but hey, why not! It was an amazing piece of celluloid to be released at the time but yeah, definitely a pick-and-choose sound-bite editing going on there. Love the channel!
I was just scrolling through to see if anyone was going to mention that this was 'House Of Usher' (Thunder Bay location, I believe. Doesn't look like the DV8 SF location). And, let them know how wonderful the scene was in SF/Bay Area in the 90's. Great clubs in the city back then. Usher/Rodericks, Winter Gone By, Death Guild (Still every Monday) Bedlam, Temple.. and more that I can't even remember. Best nights of my life.
Eyeliner must be done in a safe room with nothing around ahhhahah I was doing mine the other day and had the GREAT idea of trying to use liquid waterproof eyeliner on the waterline, one of my cats invaded the bathroom and jumped on the sink........ spent 30min washing my eye. Extra comment about the theater one... It was always important to be on top look wise when you went to the club. Much better than when you were dressed "daily goth" (still extreme, but not like in the clubs). I could change lots of outfits if I had too much time to dress. Cause I was not satisfied. It was always better with having less time for me lol. I shouldn't say stupid comments, cause I love see the subculture is alive still. But I could stare, but more for you both being so beautiful. I am sometimes too shy to approach and give compliments.
When I was a young warthog in the 90's, I was mostly goth, but I had ventured into what we called 'freak' which is what you described with the tripp or jnco pants, the band tshirts, and the spikey hair. I don't think that of anyone I knew that mixed goth up with freak but I suppose that could be true in some areas unfortunately. I also ventured into some other musical sub-genre lifestyles like punk, and at some point I was convinced that I should start conforming more with societal norms and that just made my life miserable. Goth has just always spoken to me on multiple levels that every other lifestyle hasn't.
In the old days we Mixed white grease paint with palest foundation, then white translucent setting powder. Like the cheap wet and wild eyeliner and that was the shadow for cheeks it was brows and mixed it with a lipstick or used it with lipstick. We all stocked up on Halloween makeup, since they didn't make the goth shades or sel, them unless you lived in A major city like LA or the UK. I would go to Seattle every weekend from 1986, when I was 14 to 19, when I finally moved there. They had underage clubs then. I was into the goth subculture in the 80's and even more so in the beginning of the 90's when I discovered artist/bands like Rozz Williams R.I.P. and Christian Death, Shadow Project, and Current 93. Aesthetically I've never really looked goth but inwardly I have always had an appreciation for it.
We actually spoke about clown white but I edited that section out due to time! It's much more consistent and lasting but is a bit more of a hassle to get off than snazaroo. Would definitely recommend it over it though!
I use Laura Mercier setting powder to set my makeup, and it helps a lot. I also use blotting papers and it helps with the sweat and doesn't push around the makeup product.
Finally seeing my name at the end of the video managed a smile out of me which is rare. But I'm like conor and hated doing make-up (and removing it). So thats why i now have a very cyberpunk/robotic full head piece that i wear when trying to look the part. Fits my cybergoth aesthetic near perfectly.
WOW! I don't know how your video came up on my youtube, but I'm so glad it did. This took me way back. I used to frequent Bondage a go go and Trocadero Transfer in SF back in the 90s. I knew Jimmy and Natalie from your news video. (I had a crush on Natalie. hahaha. She never even knew I existed... and she was with Jimmy.) My roommates introduced me to the goth scene. Much mac makeup and 13 piercing later and I was all in. Eyeliner, long hair and double capes were my fashion. Sisters of mercy, type O negative, Japan, etc became my standard music genre. Such great memories. I will be revisiting that music after seeing your video. I wish I could pull off that look at my age, but my wife would probably leave me. I am too norm now. hahahah. My roommates (One being Stacy from London after Midnight) were making music back in the day. It was cool seeing them getting air time at the clubs. I was literally just talking to Stacy yesterday about finding your guys. He had a good laugh remembering. I hope our paths cross some day. Keep creating! I think I was more a Mad Max / Lost Boys crossover with the boots and duster. I know the Crow influenced a lot of it too. And yeah, the non coformity thing is not conforming to societal norms, but also feeling like you belong to a tribe that understands you. Back then, it was called the Alternative Scene for a reason. It was an alternative to the bullshit we were getting spoonfed (and weirdly, the current generations are catching on to it all, which makes me happy). The idea of coloured hair (any colour that isn't natural), piercings and tattoos were highly frowned upon and you could forget having long hair and getting a semi decent job in the 90s.
I just wear normal black clothes, black nail polish, occasionally some eyeliner, and sometimes a trench coat with buckles, studs, and D rings on it and I still get weird looks from people. There aren't many goths in my city, so that could be why. I really wish there were more goths here, I need some friends. I'm not like most goths though... I'm not like anyone. 😞

Goths are by nature anticonformists, two Goths who look the same in the same spot are odd. It's the world of the normies that looks wryly at whomever dons a not just different, but even a starkly contrasting look and feel compared to the standard, socially accepted one! I understand that it's hard living a Goth life in the norm world, much more so when you are alone (we are social animals anyway, Goths too), but feeling unlike anyone else is the basic, starting felling that drives people towards Gothland. It would be nice if a bunch of goths from other places moved to my neighborhood (Downtown, Waterville, Maine, US) because I can't afford to move to another place where there would be more goths. However, This city really doesn't have much to offer goths. Furthermore, not only does my gothness (it's a word cuz I said it) make me an outcast, but my mental issues as well (autism, namely). As far as I know, there is no known way to overcome this disorder without meds, counselling, or some other methods which I refuse to try for obvious reasons. Meds create more problems than they solve in most cases. No councilor has ever helped me and most of them have made me worse. As for the other methods that shall go unnamed, most of them are likely illegal, so that's out of the question. The only thing that has/will help(ed) me is the company of other goths, especially... ah, fuck it! it's pointless. 😞
I have a shaved head /beard, ears pierced and a nose ring, due to work I usually dress down in joggers and a tee, all black, nikes for my ankle support at work. When it's goth night I'll don my battlevest with my lebanon hanover patch, some jeans or joggers with straps on them, boots, or black and white chucks. Never got into makeup, I was more into body mods. I'm the muscular guy wearing women's earrings or silver necklace lol. (Jewelry is jewelry to me. I'm the cis, straight, masculine, black guy. I like what I like!❤️😄)
If I can offer some makeup advice from when you attempted the guy in the video's look: go bigger. That can be scary, but the lips are dramatic, pointed at the top past his natural line. Your look is so clean and lovely, eyebrows too. But at the sacrifice of some of the dramatic messy sillouhette the original shows. I love your eyeshadow blending more, but I would have used a harsher grey line to create more shadow between the brow and eyes, and the darkness of his brows extends more to the bridge of the nose than yours, highlighting the nose's shape. I like how clean your foundation is and I wouldn't change that. He also appears to have dramatic black/grey contouring under his cheekbones to hollow out his face and point to his chin. I love goth makeup so I just wanted to kinda flail and deconstruct what I see, your skills both are fantastic.
I think you do have a great face for those shapes, you just have to play some. Your cheeks in particular. Oh! Also when you point out your lips, you have to contour and stretch out some of the sides to prevent the pout from looking too pursed or clownish, that's a mistake I have made a LOT. Angled brushes help and sketching the shapes lightly.
If you want 90's sheet white, we used Kryolan white water based face paint and Mehron water based face paint. Much friendlier on the skin than a cream. We set it with hair spray, and used this old school lipstick sealer that was clear and terrifyingly difficult to remove.

I'm willing to bet that was a news report on vampires(it was a big scare in the 90's) and they just asked Goths about it because they were wearing dark clothing. There were a lot of 'vampires' in the 90's and there is some overlap, of course, but most of these people seemed confused by it.
I think the goths these days are awesome! Makeups on fleek…and all the accessories!! Simply perfection…in the 90s…it was like…showing up to school in a black shirt equaled GOTH!! And only on Halloween…I love how the times have changed for the better…and more creative! Let your goth flags fly!
I loved Stargazer white foundation and loose powder when I did my gothic make up in the mid to late 90's. I gave up on it when the formula changed and it started going patchy and chalky looking. These days, I'm in my early 40's and go with the lightest foundation that I can find and set with loose white powder if I want to go for the paler than usual appearance.
Recently I tried by "my old brand" of foundatiom to be that white again. But it didn't lol must changed it from the old days. Connor, did you know we fixed the makeup with hair spray? Not recommended nowadays! 😆 But that was our way to get it stay in place. So not just for hair back then. Even in beginning of 2000 people asked if I either was a vampire or played Vampire the Masqurade. Nowadays people still wonder what I do to not age much (I'm 54 and goth since the 80s). lol I was a 90s goth kid! I'm bias, but I feel like the scene and music from the 90s was very special. Though, I was never a Vampire goth, maybe I should have been. I always have looked over a decade younger than I am, which I still do. Just call me Lestat de Lioncourt. lol I saw that movie in the theatres when it released. As I write music today or DJ, I try to represent the 90s era. Before I ramble too long, I just want to say, I just now found your channel. You guys are killing it here. Keep it up.

Great video! Im defoes a goth at heart as it was the first thing I experimented with as a teen before I began creating my own style (Still haven't reached a destination but the journey is fun!). Still get such a nostalgic wave when I fall down the goth rabbit hole on youtube, and it certainly helps me try and explore more extreme looks when I feel my creativity slipping. As an Old Goth Lady who was a 90's Goth... So glad that we are not so harshly judged by the new generation of Darklings. If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if I was a witch, a Satanist or a Vampire... Let's just say I could buy Bram's Castle!

It seems like the video was chopped up by who ever did it. But it was fun seeing some 90s Goths after so long. For some reason this video just came up in my feed and I thought you had just made it. I'm glad you mentioned being happy with yourself and doing what you love here. I think many people need to remember this. I know for myself, I tried for years to not be Goth because of negative responses; being lonely as I've actually never met a Goth except my son who is no longer Goth; and people accusing me of being dark, etc. So I wasn't happy trying to change, and I actually can't stand "normal" clothes. Now I do a lot of White Goth, and Fairy/Victorian/Vampire/Hippie Goth as my style. White actually looks better on me, but when I wear black I try to wear purple or white near my face because people say black makes me look drained.

I've been Goth since 1998 and I'm from the States, 🇺🇲. Back in the 90's dressing Goth (speaking of myself) garnered me a lot of unwanted snide remarks (most from probably well-meaning strangers wanting to convert me to their religions and/or just annoy me like a nosy person). Back in 98' I was a baby bat. I didn't have the Manic Panic Goth makeup yet. I was able to order some via the Goth cataloges that were still in business in early 2000. I'd describe my Goth wardrobe as 'vampire Goth'. I didn't wear wild contacts. I did have two sets of fangs (still have them safely put away). I remember getting kicked out (86'd here in the us) from a few restaurants based on my [then] unusual attire. I made a cape from an old trench coat and lined it with two pieces of black crushed velvet with burgundy velvet lining and it was a glorious sewing atrocity lol 😆. But back in the late 90's/early 2000's Goths like myself often had to rely on thrift shop finds for wardrobe accessories. My spike bracelets and chokers were purchased from Ape leather (here in the US) and Ipso-Facto in California. Now that I'm an Elder Goth, my wardrobe is vintage Tripp, nyc trench coats, used black boots and black shoes, black velvet tops and no less than ten capes (all costume Halloween manufactured capes). My favorite cape would have to be my vintage black velvet coffin cape. However, I seldom, if ever wear these other than Halloween. And nowadays I get a host of compliments and strangers asking me where I get my vintage 90's Goth clothing from. Happily I tell them etsy, Ebay, Amazon, etc. My Goth makeup is still the same yet I can't find any good white makeup anywhere to give me a natural pallor like I would like. Just don't forget the cameras diffused the makeup ALOT like ALOOOOT in the 90's!!!! there's a reason festivals had touchup stations. They sweat that makeup off then re"caked" it. But the camera quality didn't represent it. To get that pale they did use grease paint and set it. But now its pressed to have "light weight" formulas and easy long wear that doesn't clog pores and isn't heavy.

Conor, I understand you, I too do think Jimi Vietzke is f🕱💀king cool and looks great, I wished I could produce such an impact entering a room like he must do.
But, you do have your own distinct, cool look, don't let yourself down comparing yourself too much against other Super-Goths.
I settled on a restrained corp-goth look for myself because I'm terrible at haidressing and makeup, they take me way too long a time for a miserable outcome, I do feel the unease (if not disdain) people throw at me when I let myself go "too much" into Goth, even in my own family. But you? You do not look like to be bothered by any of these, you just developed your personal Goth style which I'm sure a lot of people would die to be able to come close to (at least I do).
Do not feel other Goths' look is demeaning yours, they are not. Most people do worse when they overly push themselves at imitating other people than when they just cast a glance at what others could come up with and then say: "Oh well, no bad. But this is what I'm going to look like tonight!" and come up with something very different yet unique and fascinating. And, again, you do look and feel extraordinarily cool and at ease with your Goth style! Change it as much as you like to fit your whim, but do not ruin it trying to follow the style of others that are just not like you.

I might do that once I have an evening to waste and I'll let the Goth world know how awful that looked like. 😝

I do sometimes get bothered by the way some people look (or stare) at me, but I understand it and accept it. After all, I do not want to be a Goth to be just like anybody else, I actually do enjoy feeling and showing like I was a completely different person compared to the mass!

I identify as a goth, but I barely wear any make up. I use my wardrobe, accessories and hair to convey my style, but 95% of the time my face is totally bare. Make up is just not my jam, but I truly appreciate people who have the time, patience and skill to do their make up. 😉

Same! Been a goth since the late 80s and have never worn makeup (even normal makeup). It's just not my thing. I choose to express myself in my clothing, accessories, and hair colors (usually purple, blood red, etc).
I always tell people the subculture is in the mind but can wear many pretty things so we can easily identify each other :)
You don't need to wear make up to be indentify as a Goth. Being Goth is an attitude. With your self-control, silence & lack of interest regarding the transient fashions of the World You show them that You are not going with that flow. The mayority of the World fear darkness because they by movies associate it with evil, but it's the complement of light. Darkness is the color of peace and quiteness, that's why most of the universe is in darkness.

There are plenty of people who dress like goths, but do not appreciate the music or other aspects of the subculture (and in my opinion, are not goth, just darkly inclined). I remember seeing cyber Goths from Gothic Beauty magazines back in the day. Unfortunately, I don't live in a town big enough to even cater to a Goth community (not even a neighborhood so much). But I too remember those cyber Goths with their wild colored pony falls (hair extensions), goggles and respirator masks that resembled gas masks. This was before the days of Steam punk goggles, etc. 🙂🦇

Remember that this video was recorded on analog VHS so the colors are a bit off. There may have been a lot of incredibly pale looks with full cake makeup but trust me, if there had been true white foundations available at the time there would have been a LOT of people wearing it instead of the thick makeup. You both look perfectly pale and amazing and beautiful.

As a semi-goth kid of the 90's, this is pure nostalgia. for me. Back then, if you didn't live in or near a major city with a lot of specialty shops, the only option you were going to have was whatever you could find at Hot Topic, or you had to stock up on halloween make up. I never got that far into it, myself, but I did live just a bus and a boat ride away from Seattle, which had a huge goth movement at the time.
Just commented the same thing. Lol. In the 80's & 90's we used white grease paint 🎨 mixed with baby powder. We would hoard all the grease paint at Halloween since that was the only time that they sold it
I was (am) in Canada. We didn’t have hot topic. Ordering things online wasn’t a thing until later and even when it was it was sooo expensive. We either made things from scratch, thrifted and modified or gothed up new items. It’s so much easier now, which is awesome.

Connor you're one of the main reasons I feel inspired to wear make-up. All I do is eyeliner and eyeshadow but I feel the pain of everything you described. ESPECIALLY THE SHAVING. I have to typically shave every 3 days but shave every 2 weeks just because I can't stand the constant shaving process. You described the same exact facial hair issues and sensitive skin issues I have too so I'm glad you get it. Your effort is noticed and I salute you.

It is an absolute struggle. I've tried different razors, different creams, balms, oils and everything I can but always break out in rashes!
@@RandomGothCouple Personally I use the Gillette pro glide and I make sure to use shaving cream infused with aloe. It helps reduce the redness quicker than most shaving creams or gels. I also used coco butter/lotion one time when I forgot my shaving cream on vacation and it actually stopped any irritation and redness so if you're willing to experiment, maybe it's worth a try.
Hey guys, I have the same issues as you do, I'm a girl who doesn't have to shave the face lol, but I have to shave other body parts, I have the same problems as you say. What j do, that might be a tip is, before I use the razor I put a great amount of hair conditioner, yes believe me it helps a lot, plus you're going to wash ir after. After I finished shaving, I use a thick layer of Vaseline, Aquaphor or any baby ointment for rashes. It helps a lot. Ps: try not to use this creams for after shave, they use a lot of ingredients that are aggressive to the skin. I really hope it helps you. Hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷

The 90s was quite fun for goths! Wish I could still rock what I did back then. The club scene was so damn exciting as well. Was totally obsessed with rozz Williams Trent reznor and Peter Steele . There were so many styles and loved seeing each other like walking real life art .

Talking about “doing your makeup” versus “wearing makeup”…I absolutely feel this in my soul. I’m a professional cake decorator, I like doing tiny detail work, but like, baking cakes, icing cakes, covering them with fondant…ugghhh lol. I love finishing them, I love presenting to them to people who get really excited about it, but a good part of the process is just…I don’t love it lol. My style back in the 90s, when I lived in San Fran was downright anti-goth. I mimicked a lot of the attire and the patterns of the makeup, but instead of being done in the neutrals of black, white and shades of grey, mine was in oversaturated bright colors with lots of fuchsia, purples and pinks. I was given the street name of "Anime Chic" from the style.
Sweatproof primer is out there. Wash your face and start with that before laying down concealers and foundation. Rock solid makeup for hours.
That was great! We would have someone stopping by our club (House of Usher) almost monthly to do some sort of piece on us which we always loved accommodating. I believe Hard Copy was indeed leaning to do exactly as you said, an IWTV tie in but hey, why not! It was an amazing piece of celluloid to be released at the time but yeah, definitely a pick-and-choose sound-bite editing going on there.

And, let them know how wonderful the scene was in SF/Bay Area in the 90's. Great clubs in the city back then. Usher/Rodericks, Winter Gone By, Death Guild (Still every Monday) Bedlam, Temple.. and more that I can't even remember. Best nights of my life.
Eyeliner must be done in a safe room with nothing around ahhhahah I was doing mine the other day and had the GREAT idea of trying to use liquid waterproof eyeliner on the waterline, one of my cats invaded the bathroom and jumped on the sink........ spent 30min washing my eye. It was always important to be on top look wise when you went to the club. Much better than when you were dressed "daily goth" (still extreme, but not like in the clubs).
I could change lots of outfits if I had too much time to dress. Cause I was not satisfied. It was always better with having less time for me lol.

When I was a young warthog in the 90's, I was mostly goth, but I had ventured into what we called 'freak' which is what you described with the tripp or jnco pants, the band tshirts, and the spikey hair. I don't think that of anyone I knew that mixed goth up with freak but I suppose that could be true in some areas unfortunately. I also ventured into some other musical sub-genre lifestyles like punk, and at some point I was convinced that I should start conforming more with societal norms and that just made my life miserable. Goth has just always spoken to me on multiple levels that every other lifestyle hasn't.

In the old days we Mixed white grease paint with palest foundation, then white translucent setting powder. Like the cheap wet and wild eyeliner and that was the shadow for cheeks it was brows and mixed it with a lipstick or used it with lipstick. We all stocked up on Halloween makeup, since they didn't make the goth shades or sel, them unless you lived in A major city like LA or the UK. I would go to Seattle every weekend from 1986, when I was 14 to 19, when I finally moved there. They had underage clubs then. I was into the goth subculture in the 80's and even more so in the beginning of the 90's when I discovered artist/bands like Rozz Williams R.I.P. and Christian Death, Shadow Project, and Current 93. Aesthetically I've never really looked goth but inwardly I have always had an appreciation for it.

Snazaroo cracks like 30 minutes into it. Ben Nye clown white and baby powder were my go-to.
We actually spoke about clown white but I edited that section out due to time! It's much more consistent and lasting but is a bit more of a hassle to get off than snazaroo. Would definitely recommend it over it though!

I use Laura Mercier setting powder to set my makeup, and it helps a lot. I also use blotting papers and it helps with the sweat and doesn't push around the makeup product.

Finally seeing my name at the end of the video managed a smile out of me which is rare. But I'm like conor and hated doing make-up (and removing it). So thats why i now have a very cyberpunk/robotic full head piece that i wear when trying to look the part. Fits my cybergoth aesthetic near perfectly.

WOW! I don't know how your video came up on my youtube, but I'm so glad it did. This took me way back. I used to frequent Bondage a go go and Trocadero Transfer in SF back in the 90s. I knew Jimmy and Natalie from your news video. (I had a crush on Natalie. hahaha. She never even knew I existed... and she was with Jimmy.) My roommates introduced me to the goth scene. Much mac makeup and 13 piercing later and I was all in. Eyeliner, long hair and double capes were my fashion. Sisters of mercy, type O negative, Japan, etc became my standard music genre. Such great memories. I will be revisiting that music after seeing your video. I wish I could pull off that look at my age, but my wife would probably leave me. I am too norm now. hahahah. My roommates (One being Stacy from London after Midnight) were making music back in the day. It was cool seeing them getting air time at the clubs. I'm a goth since 1990, I miss these days...
I think I was more a Mad Max / Lost Boys crossover with the boots and duster. I know the Crow influenced a lot of it too. And yeah, the non coformity thing is not conforming to societal norms, but also feeling like you belong to a tribe that understands you. Back then, it was called the Alternative Scene for a reason. It was an alternative to the bullshit we were getting spoonfed (and weirdly, the current generations are catching on to it all, which makes me happy). The idea of coloured hair (any colour that isn't natural), piercings and tattoos were highly frowned upon and you could forget having long hair and getting a semi decent job in the 90s.
I just wear normal black clothes, black nail polish, occasionally some eyeliner, and sometimes a trench coat with buckles, studs, and D rings on it and I still get weird looks from people. There aren't many goths in my city, so that could be why. I really wish there were more goths here, I need some friends. I'm not like most goths though... I'm not like anyone. 😞

Goths are by nature anticonformists, two Goths who look the same in the same spot are odd. It's the world of the normies that looks wryly at whomever dons a not just different, but even a starkly contrasting look and feel compared to the standard, socially accepted one!
I understand that it's hard living a Goth life in the norm world, much more so when you are alone (we are social animals anyway, Goths too), but feeling unlike anyone else is the basic, starting felling that drives people towards Gothland.

@@Blatro_Ceneidrago Thanks, but there aren't any other goths where I live and if there are, they likely keep to themselves like I do (can't blame them for that). It would be nice if a bunch of goths from other places moved to my neighborhood (Downtown, Waterville, Maine, US) because I can't afford to move to another place where there would be more goths. However, This city really doesn't have much to offer goths. Furthermore, not only does my gothness (it's a word cuz I said it) make me an outcast, but my mental issues as well (autism, namely). As far as I know, there is no known way to overcome this disorder without meds, counselling, or some other methods which I refuse to try for obvious reasons. Meds create more problems than they solve in most cases. No councilor has ever helped me and most of them have made me worse. As for the other methods that shall go unnamed, most of them are likely illegal, so that's out of the question. The only thing that has/will help(ed) me is the company of other goths, especially... ah, fuck it! it's pointless. 😞
I have a shaved head /beard, ears pierced and a nose ring, due to work I usually dress down in joggers and a tee, all black, nikes for my ankle support at work. When it's goth night I'll don my battlevest with my lebanon hanover patch, some jeans or joggers with straps on them, boots, or black and white chucks. Never got into makeup, I was more into body mods. I'm the muscular guy wearing women's earrings or silver necklace lol. (Jewelry is jewelry to me. I'm the cis, straight, masculine, black guy. I like what I like!❤️😄)

If I can offer some makeup advice from when you attempted the guy in the video's look: go bigger. That can be scary, but the lips are dramatic, pointed at the top past his natural line. Your look is so clean and lovely, eyebrows too. But at the sacrifice of some of the dramatic messy sillouhette the original shows. I love your eyeshadow blending more, but I would have used a harsher grey line to create more shadow between the brow and eyes, and the darkness of his brows extends more to the bridge of the nose than yours, highlighting the nose's shape.
I like how clean your foundation is and I wouldn't change that.
He also appears to have dramatic black/grey contouring under his cheekbones to hollow out his face and point to his chin.
I love goth makeup so I just wanted to kinda flail and deconstruct what I see, your skills both are fantastic.
I think you do have a great face for those shapes, you just have to play some. Your cheeks in particular. Oh! Also when you point out your lips, you have to contour and stretch out some of the sides to prevent the pout from looking too pursed or clownish, that's a mistake I have made a LOT. If you want 90's sheet white, we used Kryolan white water based face paint and Mehron water based face paint. Much friendlier on the skin than a cream. We set it with hair spray, and used this old school lipstick sealer that was clear and terrifyingly difficult to remove.

I'm willing to bet that was a news report on vampires(it was a big scare in the 90's) and they just asked Goths about it because they were wearing dark clothing. There were a lot of 'vampires' in the 90's and there is some overlap, of course, but most of these people seemed confused by it.

I loved Stargazer white foundation and loose powder when I did my gothic make up in the mid to late 90's. I gave up on it when the formula changed and it started going patchy and chalky looking. These days, I'm in my early 40's and go with the lightest foundation that I can find and set with loose white powder if I want to go for the paler than usual appearance.
Loose powder works great. Besame has great powders.
Recently I tried by "my old brand" of foundatiom to be that white again. But it didn't lol must changed it from the old days.
Connor, did you know we fixed the makeup with hair spray? Not recommended nowadays! 😆 But that was our way to get it stay in place. So not just for hair back then.
Even in beginning of 2000 people asked if I either was a vampire or played Vampire the Masqurade.
Nowadays people still wonder what I do to not age much (I'm 54 and goth since the 80s).
Love those clips and I miss those years. Many of my friends disappeared and stopped being goths.

lol I was a 90s goth kid! I'm bias, but I feel like the scene and music from the 90s was very special. Though, I was never a Vampire goth, maybe I should have been. I always have looked over a decade younger than I am, which I still do. Just call me Lestat de Lioncourt. lol I saw that movie in the theatres when it released. As I write music today or DJ, I try to represent the 90s era. Before I ramble too long, I just want to say, I just now found your channel. You guys are killing it here. Keep it up.

Great video! Im defoes a goth at heart as it was the first thing I experimented with as a teen before I began creating my own style (Still haven't reached a destination but the journey is fun!). Still get such a nostalgic wave when I fall down the goth rabbit hole on youtube, and it certainly helps me try and explore more extreme looks when I feel my creativity slipping. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation!

It seems like the video was chopped up by who ever did it. But it was fun seeing some 90s Goths after so long. For some reason this video just came up in my feed and I thought you had just made it. I'm glad you mentioned being happy with yourself and doing what you love here. I think many people need to remember this. I know for myself, I tried for years to not be Goth because of negative responses; being lonely as I've actually never met a Goth except my son who is no longer Goth; and people accusing me of being dark, etc. So I wasn't happy trying to change, and I actually can't stand "normal" clothes. Now I do a lot of White Goth, and Fairy/Victorian/Vampire/Hippie Goth as my style. White actually looks better on me, but when I wear black I try to wear purple or white near my face because people say black makes me look drained.

I've been Goth since 1998 and I'm from the States, 🇺🇲. Back in the 90's dressing Goth (speaking of myself) garnered me a lot of unwanted snide remarks (most from probably well-meaning strangers wanting to convert me to their religions and/or just annoy me like a nosy person). Back in 98' I was a baby bat. I didn't have the Manic Panic Goth makeup yet. I was able to order some via the Goth cataloges that were still in business in early 2000. I'd describe my Goth wardrobe as 'vampire Goth'. I didn't wear wild contacts. I did have two sets of fangs (still have them safely put away). I remember getting kicked out (86'd here in the us) from a few restaurants based on my [then] unusual attire. I made a cape from an old trench coat and lined it with two pieces of black crushed velvet with burgundy velvet lining and it was a glorious sewing atrocity lol 😆. But back in the late 90's/early 2000's Goths like myself often had to rely on thrift shop finds for wardrobe accessories. My spike bracelets and chokers were purchased from Ape leather (here in the US) and Ipso-Facto in California.
Now that I'm an Elder Goth, my wardrobe is vintage Tripp, nyc trench coats, used black boots and black shoes, black velvet tops and no less than ten capes (all costume Halloween manufactured capes). My favorite cape would have to be my vintage black velvet coffin cape. However, I seldom, if ever wear these other than Halloween. And nowadays I get a host of compliments and strangers asking me where I get my vintage 90's Goth clothing from. Happily I tell them etsy, Ebay, Amazon, etc. My Goth makeup is still the same yet I can't find any good white makeup anywhere to give me a natural pallor like I would like. Just don't forget the cameras diffused the makeup ALOT like ALOOOOT in the 90's!!!! there's a reason festivals had touchup stations. They sweat that makeup off then re"caked" it. But the camera quality didn't represent it. To get that pale they did use grease paint and set it. But now its pressed to have "light weight" formulas and easy long wear that doesn't clog pores and isn't heavy.

I too have eczema and sensitive skin, to the point most products give me a rash, so after a stint in my teenage I decided the make up routine wasn't for me. It was fun looking like Dani Filth on nights out for a time, but I decided the metalhead look was better for my skin health overall.
I've always appreciated other people's take/look though, never get tired of it.
It's been a long time since I've thought about the nineties and what it was like, bands like type O, Cradle, Manson, the whole nu-metal industrial scene... the crow!
