That’s brilliant news. I’ve just lost my husband to pancreatic cancer so when the ride re opens I’m going to make my way over to cedar point. Had the worst year and riding top thrill 2 is something I just really want to do.
I really hope they have it open for Coastermania next week. I don't want to get my hopes up but it sure would be nice. We have ERT scheduled on it from 7:30am to 10am, and if its open I will probably spend half the day after that just reriding it.

@@FranklinArmstrongjr I rode it opening day row 4, I think I was on blue train. That's interesting it changed that much over a week. I didn't find the twist rough. The twist has a lot more whip to it. Hartline change, and the speed over the top hat and coming down is noticeably faster now. As much as I will miss that first launch and the old trains sitting lower to the track, taking the top hat at a faster speed, and sitting higher is a more force full experience over the top hat. Which I like.

They do look like new wheel carriers. They look more reinforced and the wheels seem slightly further apart (front to back), but it could just be the photo angle. Awesome videos dude.
I was there the other day and a crew was working on the launch track stators. One guy was using a blade to scrape brown tape off one of them, as if it had just come out of a package.
I have seen videos where they put painters tape on the side of the stators. So you have heat from the sun, UV from the sun, heat from the stators, and after that all the glue is stuck. The glue will act as an insulator and could cause the motor to overheat. So they want to make sure nothing is on those.
Definitely new, another insider, which he was definitely right considering said it was this exact part and it would be installed this week. Hopefully this tracks well and solves the problem, they do believe this was the cause of the shake and the wear of the LSM's as well. Time will tell for sure, but based on a certain email I saw personally, this appears to have done it.
Sweet. I like fixing things. I was watching the lightning train video when it first came out and these are way less modular than revision 0 was a while back. Much lighter as well. So not too surprising.

Per what I've heard, they've installed new wheel assemblies on one of the trains over the past two days and actually started testing it tonight. The hope is to have at least one train operational for Coastermania in a week, so my guess is they probably made one set as quickly as possible and provided they hold up, will manufacture and install them on the other two trains over the next month so all three trains are available for peak season. Whatever modification they're doing is supposedly a temporary fix to allow the ride to make it through the season without issues, then they're supposedly designing a completely new assembly to install over the offseason to make sure the ride is able to operate safely and reliably for years to come.
I think we are going to see some testing soon! Seems like this will require quite a bit of testing. I'll be there this weekend, I'll see what I can find for you
I stared at these pictures for a couple minutes and did not notice. Honestly it was the second or third time. I opened the picture up that I figured something looked different. It was a hardly noticeable change.
In hindsight the original carriers do seem not to have a lot of ‘beefiness’ to them. Isn’t it concerning that they were able to notice stress on the carriers after only a couple weekends of running?
I wonder if the shimmy left and right is going to be less now that the wheel carriers are going to be on tighter possibly. I can see how that twist on the way down. Will put stress on this part. They look much much better now.

Probably the standard 1000 cycles loaded. Stale, insurance, engineering of the park, engineering from Zamperla all have to be sure this is good. And then they can open. NOW is where Tony’s words start to set in. Sounds like they are all confident this will be the last time for this problem.
The original look really flimsy lol. It kind of looks like there's little support bars coming out from the added support underneath. I can't tell if it's connected to the guide wheel section, though. It kind of looks like it is, but the view cuts off there.
It is purposely put in a place where it is hard to photograph. They also put up a barrier that honestly looks like a black garbage bag that makes it even harder to see around. I doubt the guide and upstops will be visible during the day because it is on a maintenance track further back and the main track obscures the view.
I've always tought that wheelcarrier assembly looked too tiny, so it makes sense they reinforced it. Hopefully that covers the problem and the ride will re-open.

Looks like they identified the issue with carrier stress wear and tear, and had these parts manufactured, and gave a quick "opening" to get more people to the park, and they'll have a grand re-opening when these new parts are fully tested but it seems they used the standard lightning train wheel carriers but already had an option for reinforced ones if needed.
Yeh it all didn't take all that much time for the 'FIX', so most likely may*have*had beefier ones in the works. (the original vertical member did/does look 'kinda weak'.)(refer again to Falcon Flight's 2 vertical ribs).
The thing I notice about the comparison is the wheel guard is on the other wheel (unless the top photo is of the carriers on the other side of the train)

I'm no expert on this, but it seems they won't be able to test these new wheel carriers as extensively as the old ones because the old ones already lived through the transition from winter to summer. Metal expands and contracts in different temperatures, and these new carriers will only have ever experienced summer warmth.
I feel like testing is a lot different than normal operating days. Like during testing water dummies empty trains a handful of people is a lot different than constantly running and having people say what they felt on the ride. I'm just glad it wasn't any sort of accident and they are working to get it corrected

It showed up ''after'' ALL the testing-- or not seen until it got 'exacerbated' with the randomly placed persons!! going to Cmania. It DID EFFECT different wheel boggies progressively as trains ran.[on its last Mon., Sil seat #6 was quite rough while the same #6 in Blk tr. was QUITE SMOOTH]!!
@@sairosekk they done make dummies to simulate a train full of large guests. The standard comes close. But to make a true heavy dummie they would need lead or steel to make up the weight. Even then, it won’t account for all sizes. But these rides are engineered where weight is that critical. People are super light compared to the forces on the ride.

Someone sent me a picture of it from IAAPA and they look light up close but Zamperla did the math and they were ok. But according to an engineer I used to know, it doesn’t follow the “tylar “ method.

One uses shape and the other uses cross sectional stiffness to resist forces. Zamperla went for cross sectional stiffness but screwed up on dynamic loading. With the larger distance between centers on the road wheels and guide wheels, the higher friction force generated will cause torque twist will go through that member, shortening the fatigue life. I think for ISO or EN standards, they follow the Von Mises Yield Criterion. If you’re talking about the carrier armed like where the road wheels mount. They are solid, no connections. The original lightnin trains rolled out with a modular design. These are purpose built with no connections.
There's already allot of information around that. Basicly that park makes money per rider per ride, and so having to refuse a rider means no money. So the owner had the safety sensors illegally alterd, resulting in the ride being able to start with retraints dangerously far open. And when the poor bigger bodied victem got in we sadly know what happend next. Its one of the reasons I'm glad in that in Europe we have the TÜV inspecting and checken rides.
This is TTD/2Ron4695/46 again, remember I mentioned the 2 ribs on Falcon Flight 's road wheels down to side wheels were 'beefer' !!? Looks like Zamperla's ''FIX'' 'strengthened ' this area of their bogey.!! [ seat #6 silver was rough and rides later #6 black was quite smooth!!!] [ affected different wheel boggies progressively due to the differently weighted/ randomly spaced persons.].
Am wondering if they just 'added those 'beefier' sections to the existing boggies and the horizontal memeber survived all the running without any defects/ 'cracking' ?? I might think wheel bogy behind Silver seat# 6, including the horizontal member, might have developed 'cracks' (remember ran rough while the Blk smooth) !!

Guys bot sure if it has a whole lot to do with the wheels much at all . My friends son was on the last ride and the cars went almost to the top of the track on the way back. It' sounds electrical. Shooting the cars waaaaayyy to fast on the way back

I just walked past the ride and can confirm the silver train has all wheels on it the train is not covered and there are maintenance workers working underneath and around the train. The other trains are still missing wheels.

We started at Breakers on May 31st to June 2nd. They were testing tt2 at 2am on the 31st. They ran a few trains.

That’s just what this stuff comes out. A lot of rides test done then shortly into operation, the thing you never had any trouble with, is messed up.

Most of the time, the wheel that’s under the coach doesn’t need a guard. Just the lead and rail along with any that are exposed from above.

If you’re talking about the carrier armed like where the road wheels mount. They are solid, no connections. The original lightnin trains rolled out with a modular design. These are purpose built with no connections.

Maybe. I don’t like talking about accidents because they are impacting lives. But I’ll think about it.
There's already allot of information around that. Basicly that park makes money per rider per ride, and so having to refuse a rider means no money. So the owner had the safety sensors illegally alterd, resulting in the ride being able to start with retraints dangerously far open. And when the poor bigger bodied victem got in we sadly know what happend next.
Its one of the reasons I'm glad in that in Europe we have the TÜV inspecting and checken rides.

This is TTD/2Ron4695/46 again, remember I mentioned the 2 ribs on Falcon Flight 's road wheels down to side wheels were 'beefer' !!? Looks like Zamperla's ''FIX'' 'strengthened ' this area of their bogey.!! [ seat #6 silver was rough and rides later #6 black was quite smooth!!!] [ affected different wheel boggies progressively due to the differently weighted/ randomly spaced persons.].
Am wondering if they just 'added those 'beefier' sections to the existing boggies and the horizontal memeber survived all the running without any defects/ 'cracking' ?? I might think wheel bogy behind Silver seat# 6, including the horizontal member, might have developed 'cracks' (remember ran rough while the Blk smooth) !!
@@ronaldburk115 I think with the stress and whatever they found to close it, the answer was to replace with new not to try and repair the stressed ones.
So if this is the actual fix and they have it installed at least on the one train, do you think it is realistic to have it open by June 7 for Coastermania? Really hoping for that ERT.
It’s all relative to how hard they want to push. This is a major redesign so I’d assume a lot of people have to sign off on it. Means a lot of time.
Maybe one (??two?) train op for coastermania??

I think they are just on in reverse that used to be on the front wheel sets.
Typically you just guard the front wheel or any wheel below an opening to prevent impact on the track with a bird, phone, loose clothing,etc.
looks like there is one over the back road wheels too on the new carriers.

My friends son was on the last ride and the cars went almost to the top of the track on the way back. It' sounds electrical. Shooting the cars waaaaayyy to fast on the way back

@@lesliepearson7711 they’re probably done with work for the night on or caught people taking pictures and decided to stop people doing that unsure but who know.
@@lesliepearson7711 that means they don’t want people taking pictures and making TH-cam videos on it. They need to focus on the task at hand.
I just walked past the ride and can confirm the silver train has all wheels on it the train is not covered and there are maintenance workers working underneath and around the train. The other trains are still missing wheels.
