I read the instructions and then followed your instructions (visual) to the T. Worked like a charm. A couple of recommendations: if you do at home (don't have a lift) use the 1L or 1qt bottles, I initially used a 5L bottle and it was a hassle to handle under the car. Don't buy the Harbor Freight click torque, it's a PoS, I cannot stress this enough, it's a PoS; it doesn't click and when it does it's barely audible. I purchased at my local Walmart the Chemical Guys APC + Degreaser, this left my garage floor looking like I never spilled any oil. Thank you FnD, for it being my first time other than making a little bit of a mess it was simple enough, much appreciated👍
Hello, Thanks for sharing this procedure. Very useful. My Giulia 2.2D diesel uses the ZF 8HP50 transmission and the user manual information on the amount of oil inside is a little bit over 9 liters (or quarts). I believe that the other Giulia models using the same transmission will also take the same amount of oil. So, either the user manual is wrong, or the manual oil extraction based on gravity method will not remove all the lubricant. Did you find any information on this ? Thank you!
In this video, I did a transmission fluid change, and not a flush. A special machine is needed to do a full flush. A large portion of the old fluid will be changed, but there will still be old fluid in the transmission. I believe the transmission holds 9 quarts, but with a fluid change, you will only change out 5-7 quarts of fluid. You will also have a new filter to clean out the remaining fluid. Thanks for watching!
Hey silly question. How did you manage to jack up all four corners and place the wood underneath? I can jack up the car on those black squares but I don’t know where to place a jack stand or wood underneath. Thank you.
These cars were made to go on a lift at a shop. The black squares are the jacking points. My workaround for this was building wheel cradles with 2x4’s. Here is a video on how I lift the car onto the wheel cradles. th-cam.com/video/iDIFjcQAkh8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_YeJN1CdsnpTHTdY Thanks for watching!
Yeah I’ve lifted the car many times. Pain in the butt at times. And I wish I had the tools to build those sweet wheel cradles man. Those definitely look like they’ll help out big time. 🫡
Great question! I added 5 quarts total. Quite a bit of fluid ran out at 5 quarts from fill hole before I added the fill plug. The amount added may vary. 6-7 quarts for the project should be safe. Thanks for watching!
No codes or anything I had to reset. I just used MultiECUScan to check the transmission fluid temperature. Thanks for watching from beautiful Montreal Quebec!
Great video as I will have to do this to daughter's Giulia. Two questions I have. What size wood and how much did you purchase for the car stands. Lastly, what procedure did you use to jack the car up? Thank you.
Great questions! For the wheel cradles, sadly, I built them before I started filming my diy’s. I used a bunch of scrap 2x4’s and cut 9, 20inch pieces and 11, 12inch pieces. Then I stacked them like Jenga and secured them together with deck screws. This will make one wheel cradle. You will want to make 4. As for how to lift the Giulia, I posted this video, th-cam.com/video/iDIFjcQAkh8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FgvccJ_D06Vrds4j Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
I’m not affiliated with them, but FCP Euro would be able to get you the correct part number for the pan. They also have great videos on changing BMW transmission fluids. Thanks for watching!
If you aren’t experiencing any slippage or shudder from the torque converter clutch, 68k miles should be fine. If you wanted to be safe, drain your old fluid into a clean drain pan. Just in case you needed to add some old fluid back. I did this when I changed the fluid in a BMW 328i with the GM automatic transmission. Luckily, it ran great after the change, but it was just a precaution. Thanks for watching!
So my Stelvio seems like it’s stutter from 1st to 2nd gear when shifting when I’m on low rpm. When I floor it this does not seem to be the case. Just picked it up from the garage after the usual maintenance appointment. Could old transmission fluid be a cause of this problem? Because I’m almost certain they didn’t change the transmission oil. Nevertheless thanks for the vid! Step by step I’m trying to do my own maintenance.
For the pan, I got the part number by emailing ZF directly and posted it in the description. I found a new pan on eBay. Make sure the pan includes the bolts and fill plug. As for the fluid pump, I randomly picked one on Amazon. You will notice in the video, it didn’t quite fit, but I was able to make it work. Thanks for watching!
He managed to put around 5 liters inside. If 4 liters more should be added, then the transmission takes a total of 9 liters, as referred in the user guide. Is this correct? Also, how exactly an we remove all the oil without using a specific machine for that purpose? Thanks!

@@mcarr6 Awesome! Glad it helped. Thanks for the recommendation. That space is tight without a lift.
Thanks for watching!
Worked well for me, 2018 Quadrifoglio seems identical in the transmission department. Thanks for making this video!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
How many quarts / liters could you put inside?
Good vid. I bought the BMW kit from FCP Euro that came with 7 quarts. Mine took a bit over 5 quarts as well.
Perfect! subbed for more Alfa/BMW fixes. Thanks for the detailed video
Thanks for watching!
Thanks! This has been immensely helpful :)

How many miles was on this fluid...didn't look that dirty! Thanks!
I changed it at 50k miles. I saw where FCP Euro was changing the BMW ZF Transmissions at 50k and figured it couldn’t hurt.

Can these swap the M series pans used on the bmw zpans?

Can’t seem to find that part number on fcp euro
My Giulia has 68k miles on it, and the trans fluid has never been changed would you recommend changing it at this point?
Some dudes with bmws do it at 60 & 120k miles and say they are happy. The zf8 is in alot of stuff

you should rename the title in "how to change half trasmission fluid". you miss 4 liters of old oil in the torque converter
How do you get the rest out?
You need machine for this. But this is just fine.
Just flush it 2-3 times and run the vehicle through drive and park
