    UPDATE: Make sure the engine is running when you check your fluid levels. I was able to get an extra 1L in the car doing that method after driving it around and going through the gears. Hope this helps

      Was going to ask as mine in a g20 took 6l ( more 5.5 because I used some to wash my pumps etc ) , had engine running, went trough gears and also did a 2000rpm for a few seconds to "fill torque converter" per ZF.

    • @torentmonkey
      @torentmonkey 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      ah and a funny thing is that I got only 4l out of it and that was factory fill at 100k km

  • @camluczi

    Here are some of my tips and thoughts, after having done this on several vehicles:
    - ZF lists spec for the bolts on the plastic pan as 10 nM, 4.5+45 is for aluminum pan
    - loosen the fill plug only, do not fully remove before draining, otherwise lots of fluid will come out of the fill plug
    - When removing the pan after draining, drop the front (like you did) first so more oil comes out of the drain hole as you are removing the pan
    - Make sure to check the oring on the filter came out with the old pan/filter and isnt stuck inside the transmission, otherwise there will be pressure issues
    - ZF says filling sequence should actually be A) do initial fill, then close fill plug, B) start the car and do another fill until fluid comes out, C) wait until up to temp range and then do final fill, but lots of people skip step B
    - ZF also says to run engine at 2000rpm for 30 seconds to fill up the torque converter and to hold each gear for 10 seconds once at temp window range
    - After your initial fill, make sure the car is running and in park, if you shut the car off, a ton of fluid will come out your fill hole and you wont have the right fill
    - ZF says you are at the right level when single drips are coming out of the fill hole, not a large stream
    thanks for the videos and have fun!

    Echoing some comments here, love your work Kern417, but will say there is some incorrect info on the fill procedure here. I studied the ZF formal document in detail, and basically it goes as follows.
    1. Fill until spilling out of fill plug with engine off
    2. Turn on engine, leave in park, fill again until spilling out of fill plug.
    3. If you have a transmission oil cooler (like this 340i, add an extra 0.5L at this step, you can do this by just rapidly dispensing an extra 0.5L and closing fill plug.
    4. Again if you have a transmission cooler, drive vehicle until the oil cooler valve opens (75 degrees C) (Yes it is quite specific about this)
    5. Allow to cool back down.
    6. Connect temp diagnostics
    7. Start engine, verify between 30-50 degrees C
    8. Rev motor to 2000 rpm to fill torque converter
    9. Select P, R, and D, M1, M2, for 10 Seconds
    10. Verify temp again
    11. Open plug, until only single drops Fall, continue to verity temp. or fill if no drops at all.
    12. End

  • @johnmichigan6864
    @johnmichigan6864 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    My understanding is that the final fill needs to be done WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. That is because the transmission fluid pump sucks a fair amount of fluid up out of the pan while running, and releases it when the engine stops. If the engine wasn't running when you filled it, that probably explains why you used only four liters of fluid. I strongly recommend checking again while the engine is running at temperature. I expect you will get at least another liter in there.

    • @kern417
      @kern417  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      may try that later

    • @sutphintuning9085
      @sutphintuning9085 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This is correct, the engine needs to be running and in park, the temp can be as low as 30c no higher than 50c max. If you don't put around 6L to 6.5L of fluid back in this will affect shifting and if it's too low cause slipping or worse.

    Just did this service on my Supra. I recommend following this procedure, but do one more hot fill after driving the vehicle and moving through all the gears. It's annoying, you'll have to drive the vehicle, let it cool, then bring it back up to fill temp. I found I needed more fluid. It also solved an issue where I had transmission slip/hesitation when cold

    Nice work but you forget one thing: changing the sealing sleeve inside the mechatronic unit. Don't forget that because the one in there might have some kind of pressure/oil leak and the gearbox will slip/jerk. Also after the work is done, reset the adaptations in ISTA or other smartphone app that allows it. If you don't have it, disconnect the battery for 30mins, that will do it.
