hey thank you so much for this video. I went and saw one yesterday and it had residue on both the radiator and oil line. In addition, when I started up the car it stuttered a little bit and immediately flashed a "auto start/stop unavailable" light as we went down the road. the salesman played dumb which made it that much better when he said they were a transparent dealership.
Alpha tech here, the sunroof will break, the intercooler/intake will leak, the power seat mechanism will break, the rear tires will eat the inside edges off. Those cars eat coolant. Every single alpha I see is low on coolant. Also if it sits too long that brick that controls the intake valves? Will make the car run like crap. The waste gate actuator will develop slack and cause low boots issues. They are job security. Those lines on the turbo always leak.
You are 100% correct. I’ll make a secondary video to address this issues you mentioned as well. People have started making their own bushing kits and creating watergate arms to remedy the actuator. The multiair is a major issue on some. The dam O rings will forever be an issue.
Thanks for the Mopar care info, yeah I would've never thought of that I just started a new job and I'm making major bux. Always wanted a Alfa so it's time!
Haha yeah alfa time! Yea defiantly consider the extended warranty with this car the problem is the dealer network over changing people for everything. So the warranty normally pays for its self if you have issues.
@@alfamods2.0T I do plan on doing regular maintenance myself or through my shop at work (we get huge discounts). I wouldn’t be just make sure you get a new enough one to stick a warranty from maxcare on it after you buy. Be super careful who you get the warranty tho Alfa care is fine too. Just learn some DIY stuff so you know when something is a real problem or just a glitch.
Great info as usual man, thanks and congrats on your wedding! Question on the Car Status -Maintenance you brought up. I bought mine used with 13k and under the maintenance menu it stated that maintenance had expired. The dealer I bought it from stated that 10K service had been completed and confirmed that on my carfax. Is there any maintenance not provided by the 10k service that should be done by 13k miles? Or did the shop not properly update the system? Can the issue be that only Alfa can update the maintenance information? Or a special code reader? Thanks in advance!
Thank you so much! We had a good wedding for sure. I have a video ony page on how to reset the maintenance menu with a program called multiecuscan and a few cables. At 13k other than the oil change there’s not much. 32-36k spark plugs and belt. I do oil changes every 5k, but that’s just me you don’t have to but should. The mulitiar unit is pretty picky about clean oil in this car. You should be good to go though

Hello dear alfista friend. My name is Davide and I am the owner of a Giulia Veloce 2.0 280HP Q4. I've seen many of your videos but was especially captivated by this one. Unfortunately, in addition to having the problem of the coolant leaking from the hose connected to the tank, I have been struggling with the problem of smoke coming from the turbine for months. I think there is nothing worse than seeing a Giulia smoking from the bonnet!! I changed the o-rings twice but evidently they never gave me the right spare parts, because after some time the problem appears again. Tired of the situation, I decided to directly purchase the entire oil delivery pipe completely new and I hope to resolve it once and for all. I wonder: what o-ring did you use? Did you buy something more durable at high temperatures or did you get regular o-rings? I also wanted to ask you what you think about changing the oil in the ZF-AT8 transmission... I hear so many conflicting opinions, some decide to change it, some don't... And another question is: did you already changed the transfer case oil? It's difficult to do? Is it correct that the transfer case is in the center of the car, near the transmission? Thank you if you reply. I send you a very warm greeting from Italy. You're great, keep it up!!
You have to make sure the ecm is updated to that latest software as the new programming runs the turbo coolant pump for longer times which allows the o rings and system to cool more and extended the life. Transfer case oil is not hard to do. Easier than changing the transmission fluid but currently only the oem fluid is the only thing available. Anything else is a lie as it will not work and there is no cross reference but it’s currently unavailable/ on back order.
Great video man. What do you think about Ziegler warranty for Alfa Romeo? They sell mopar vehicle protection plans. I can't get the extended factory warranty because it's an older 18' model
Thank you for the advice. I think I may have a leaking radiator since the reservoir is getting low and I can smell some burning while accelerating. Does the radiator have to be replaced or is it just a o-ring or line. Thanks!

Have a ‘23 jetta sport, heater core went up, head gasket is leaking. Looking at a ‘22 giulia ti 7k miles, how do they compare to germans? I’ve heard that they are very similar and as long as you take care of it, it takes care of you. Always wanted one of these just coming to finally pulling the trigger on one
I would take a Giulia 2.0 over any German car, from a reliability / maintenance / repair cost standpoint. I've looked at and driven several of them, and have done a good bit of homework on them. They don't seem to have a lot of major issues, and the relatively minor ones that do happen tend not to be consistent, common failure points. Since I do all my own maintenance and repairs on all my cars, including a couple of exotics, I avoid cars that are going to cause me a lot of grief. I checked and found, for example, that the ZF transmissions seem to be pretty bulletproof. They're used on multiple brands of cars, and don't seem to fail. The engine is an uprated, turbo version of a 4-speed used in Jeeps, and you can get a good used one with 30,000 miles, shipped to you for about $3500.00. That's really inexpensive. But, from what I've seen, they seem to be very reliable. I don't know how the Stelvio and Giulia 2.0's compare, but they are very similar cars. I don't know how the Quadrifoglios compare to the 2.0's either. But the fact that the Quadrifoglio engine is basically a V6 version of a Ferrari V8, you can bet it's an expensive engine, if anything does go wrong, and it has two turbos. If one fails, you can bet the second wont be far behind. So, I've ruled it out for me, based on the fact that they sell for more than twice the price used, and the fact that they are a lot harder to work on.
I was loaned one for a week from the factory and tried to find the dipstick to check the oil....never could find it and with no dealer within 200 miles to show me never did. Is there even one there?????
Nope none at all. I really wish they had something because I hate hate relying on the sensor. Incredibly finicky at reading as well you have to wait and idle for 5 min to get a correct readout. 🤦🏻♂️

Oh another question, i have the V grill light installed which connects to the fuse box and a professionally installed stereo system. Do you think this would ever cause any issues or know anyone who has had issues installing aftermarket things?
The V grill won’t pull enough power to cause problems unless it stays on all night or something. I have seen issues with the stereo systems if it’s pulling huge power. The car without adding stuff already has well know battery problems. Depends how it’s set up and how much watts is the amp/ subs set up is. V lights no problem.

Yeah one thing I’ve learned 100% don’t trust your estimated mileage this is not an isolated problem anyone you get has a very inaccurate estimated mileage. I have a 2018 and love it. Been reliable so far, just normal maintenance items like oil and brakes. (Either I have a heavy brake foot or it just loves to burn through them) regardless no issues here. The Giulia is very much a buy now and we'll know in 10 years how they held up car at the moment
@unuesokami8736 depends if you really need the AWD or not? It's a little bit quicker 0-60 having AWD but the extra weight means worse MPG & it's more to go wrong. In my opinion you don't need the AWD it's not like you'll be taking it off road 😂

These are the best videos I love from used car... thanks Buddy this helps for diy guys we love to be able to work on 2nd hand cars instead of the stealership
Very informative. Very useful for new used Alfa buyers.
hey thank you so much for this video.
Great video ! Man finally someone that made a video like this!
Thank you! I’m super happy to do it
Alpha tech here, the sunroof will break, the intercooler/intake will leak, the power seat mechanism will break, the rear tires will eat the inside edges off. Those cars eat coolant. Every single alpha I see is low on coolant. Also if it sits too long that brick that controls the intake valves? Will make the car run like crap. The waste gate actuator will develop slack and cause low boots issues. They are job security. Those lines on the turbo always leak.
😅 making me second guess getting one lol
Would everything you mentioned be covered by a warranty?
You are 100% correct. I’ll make a secondary video to address this issues you mentioned as well. People have started making their own bushing kits and creating watergate arms to remedy the actuator. The multiair is a major issue on some. The dam O rings will forever be an issue.
Yes
You should be fine just get an extended warranty.
Thanks for the Mopar care info, yeah I would've never thought of that
I just started a new job and I'm making major bux.
However for those things like engine and transmission problems or the infamous electrical Problems I don't want to hunt down gremlins.
Though I've been following the forums for about 3-4 years and haven't seen anyone with major gremlins you would see on the classic Alfas or the mid 2000s Alfas in Euroland. It seems like Alfa and Chrysler really upped their game in terms of making things better. Dodge and Jeep have come light years from what they once were in the 90s. I am starting to see lots of part sharing (especially since the 2.0 is a Hurricane engine)
Great info and video sir! The corner issues on the bumper are very common and my brand new one I already had to do that on one corner. Trust me that is the way to go to fix that due to how week those plastic pieces are.
Yes most defiantly JB weld plastic some good pressure while it cures and bam no need to replace the bumper.
I own a 2019 Stelvio that i purchased new. It has 44k miles on it. At 43k miles, the fuel pump failed. The dealer found some oil leaks as well. Thankfully all repairs were done under warranty. The car also burns oil as the low oil light comes on just before 5k mile oil changes. I love my car but I’ll probably buy Japanese when it comes time to replace my car.
Smart never again
Thank you for this video, and hello from Boston. I reached out to Mr winkles as of today posting. He got me a great deal. I wouldn’t purchase this vehicle with this warranty. BMW couldn’t offer me this kind of service. I love my BMW X5 E70 4.8i, but I’m done. I live in Boston. There are 5 Alfa Romeo service centers near me. I’ll pick one. I’m not touching one thing on this car under the warranty. I’m purchasing the 5 year plan.
Hello from MA/NH! Just bought mine 2 days ago. It was in the shop hours after I signed. Thank God for the extended warranty. Good luck with the potholes lol
How much did you pay?
I have a 2017 Giulia Ti Sport, 56 k miles, I live near Boston too. Had my Alfa less than a month and fucking love it too. Which service center did you go with?
So I bought mine from toyota... had a o ring leak.. so yep I had an extended warranty .. and they can't work on alpha.. so I drove it to alpha in San Jose california.. and toyota had to release the contract.. and the warranty company did pay alpha.. it was 13k to fix.. the warranty company was not happy.. I love my car.. but I never thought no one would work on her.. my poor baby is bouchie.. lol no wonder I don't see them anywhere on the road.. .. I wish I would of been a bit more smarter .. thank u for all the info
13K to replace an O ring? That is just stupid. take the freaking pipe out, pull off the O ring and put on a new one
@TedSchoenling they had to do that and oil pump.. and they charge 300 a hour 🙄 so ya. It was crazy expensive
this is a good video -- thanks! The tips are actually good for any car purchase
It looks really easy to work on, are there videos on how to replace the o-rings and radiator? Any reprogramming involved with replacing the battery?
No the battery you just do it and drive around for an hour or so to reset the IBS. I don’t have any or know of anyone that has made a video on those things yet.
Thank you for the video, I am seriously shopping for a Giulia. I can only afford sub 30K USD.

My car broke down and now I need a new one asap. Super scared to buy an Alfa and have problems. A lot of people say a lot of great things about them!
I wouldn’t be just make sure you get a new enough one to stick a warranty from maxcare on it after you buy. Be super careful who you get the warranty tho Alfa care is fine too. Just learn some DIY stuff so you know when something is a real problem or just a glitch.

Really useful video as I'm viewing a Giulia today!

Thanks!
If it’s the turbo then it’s just 2 O rings one for the coolant line one for the oil. Now if it’s the radiator then yes the whole thing.
Great video, good tips, thank you for making the video and sharing it.
Thank you for your video. Very useful. Take good care. Frankie from Italy

I’m dumb asf when it comes to checking shit I go into a dealer not intending to buy anything and I come out with a car. My Honda accord was totaled yesterday so I went to the dealer to just look at cars to get an idea as to what I should start researching. Well, I saw an Alfa Romeo (never heard of it before) and I loved how the inside looked like. Asked the price and they said $24k. Long story short, I came out the dealer with that car. I absolutely fucking love it but I haven’t checked anything underneath the hood and today while driving to work I heard a rock hit my car I just didn’t know where and later I noticed a chip on the window. The question is: Macan or Stelvio?
I want to say Stelvio for the sake of reliability, probably. DCT vs known reliable ZF torque converter transmission.
Buying a used Alfa, is the triumph of hope over experience. Great driving experience, horrible ownership experience. Lease one new, enjoy it and give the keys back after 27 months. Get it out of your system. Then buy a Lexus and hold for 10 years.
You can get one with some factory warranty left that's already depreciated by 50% and just get an extended mopar maxcare warranty. It's such a good value car for what you pay for.
a Lexus? OMG did all fun departed?
Have a ‘23 jetta sport, heater core went up, head gasket is leaking. Looking at a ‘22 giulia ti 7k miles, how do they compare to germans? I’ve heard that they are very similar and as long as you take care of it, it takes care of you. Always wanted one of these just coming to finally pulling the trigger on one
Das ist nicht gut! Du solltest beim Alpha-Land bleiben! Deutschland!
I’m having air conditioner issues with my 2021 Stelvio. Keeps going off while I’m driving it!
There was a software update that corrected this issue ask your dealer. There was a TSB out on it. It could also be low Freon or a blower motor issue

Oh another question, i have the V grill light installed which connects to the fuse box and a professionally installed stereo system. Do you think this would ever cause any issues or know anyone who has had issues installing aftermarket things?

Random question. Can you use eco mode until you run out of gas completely? When i put it in eco mode i feel like it does not give me the correct gas reading i mean I literally ran out of gas on the freeway when the car said i still had fuel. Dealer replaced fuel pump as well as something else but i still feel like it’ll happen again because of how slow my miles drop while in eco mode
Yeah one thing I’ve learned 100% don’t trust your estimated mileage this is not an isolated problem anyone you get has a very inaccurate estimated mileage. I would personally never never buy these new, the dealers barely can sell them with 10k off. Best bet is 2 years old with a mopar max care I’m still under warranty. It’s not even about the money, there is just not world where I would spend 40k on a new 2.0T vs spending 40ish on a used QV. I do all my own work all the intervals for maintenance are done around half of what Alfa suggests and I’ve still barely spent anything on maintenance the 2.0T is very inexpensive to maintain compared to the QV.
BULLSHIT......2024 new model $54,000. 2023 at a local dealer with 84 miles $34,000. 2022 with 3,500 miles $28,000. Buy a two year old save $25,000 and have no repairs because the warranty is left. This is not a BMW Gomer. Bet you drive a fiat.
