    What's your favorite piece of Cyberware in Red? Mine would have to be the cybersnake. I love the thought of being in combat with someone and suddenly a tentacle mess comes out from their throat to strangle you.

      I quite like the nano-filiment wire augment. Also put the cybersnake on my top ten, alongside a milspec sandevistan, and gorilla arms. Did i mention the koroshi optik mk.III?

    I personally am a fan of going the Human+ route, where you appear fully meat on the outside, but are augmented and enhanced in ways that a normal human could never be with internal cyberware.

    • @XPLovecat
      @XPLovecat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nice, I like that. Then people are surprised when you can do fun things with your internal augmentation.

    Previous GMs I've had treated Cyberpsychosis only as a violent condition. "Kill The Meats!" was the stereotypical battle cry. In your video, you present it as an addiction.

    • @XPLovecat
      @XPLovecat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes, I view Cyberpsychosis as an addiction - which sometimes can result in violent behavior, but not always.

    • @somenerdpng
      @somenerdpng ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its quite literally a medical condition within the world of cyberpunk, but it’s the same as any condition in the past of our world we didn’t know how to treat or realise it was one.
      It can make people go all kinds of ways.

    Excellent explanation of cyberpsychosis. One of the best I've seen/heard since I first picked up Cyberpunk 2020 back in the mid 90's. Well done.

    My biggest goal if I ever play is trying to roll well enough to go full conversion, I'd love to try to play a transhumanist who wants a full cyber body and has to beg lie and steal to replace everything but his brain

    Therapy is on page 229

  • @MrMuddyWheels
    @MrMuddyWheels ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm curious about therapy on cyberpunk red. It says in the rules that you cannot regain humanity fully if you don't remove cyberware but I doesn't say how much can be regained without removing cyberware

    Can you play a character that has zero humanity by cyber ware but be fighting cyberpsychosis?

    • @XPLovecat
      @XPLovecat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you are at zero empathy and have positive or equal to zero humanity, you still have control of your character. So in that case, you can hunt cyberpsychos and just figure out your motivation so you can properly RP. Then if you have negative humanity, YOU are now a cyberpsycho and your character is out of the game.

    So wait, how does traumatic events work, like something happens and they lose humanity depending on the event, or the gm just tells them to decrease their humanity?

  • @liamfishwick2943
    @liamfishwick2943 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The cost in humanity seems a bit high for me. A net runner drops at least 2 emp just getting the basics.
    Now imagine a street Sam. By the time they have 2 limbs, some armour and a speed mod they could be down 4 or 5 emp at least.

    • @XPLovecat
      @XPLovecat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Absolutely. The cost humanity cost is pretty steep. I think it's a good example of how in this lore, Cyberware can mess with you pretty quickly and there's a sacrifice for it.

    Is there a way to gain humanity back?

    • @XPLovecat
      @XPLovecat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! Pg. 229-230 explains how therapy can help regain humanity. It takes a week of intensive therapy and is quite expensive (500eb) but there is a chance to regain 2d6 humanity. If you find a competent therapist that is...

      @@XPLovecat I feel like as a dm, you could easily rule that as you become more used to cyberware, at least basic cyberware and you don’t keep adding and adding, you regain those humanity points. Certain cyberware you could rule as always taking a toll, but certain cyberware also becoming easier to live with and use, eventually just becoming a part of you that’s no different to a biological limb, that it doesn’t have an effect on you.
      Or at least, that’s how I would run it for certain things, cause I feel like that makes a bit of sense in the end. Like you’re always on the edge in the beginning, get used to it you can get better, but keep pushing towards the edge or enchanting with stuff that takes a toll.
      Also it adds to that additive element, while certain people can be fine with certain things they’re addicted to, they can adjust and balance out. Others get too deep, and need it, or always want more, and the same would go for cyberware. You could easily roleplay a character who is used to their current cyberware, and adds something new, likes that power, and slowly develops from someone who was fine, to someone just gaining an addiction. What a story arc that would be, your allies trying to pull you away from the edge, maybe even forcing you to remove some cyberware and such.
