I love how diverse lavender's characters are. It kills me (in a good way) to see representation that isn't just done for clout, like how she gave dreamcore top surgery scars. She didn't make a big deal out of it, or try like explaining that the character is trans, they just are. And it doesn't matter that they are.

The inclusion in your designs is so nice! POC, vitiligo, LGBTQ+, and those personal, normal, human aspects aren't the focus like I've seen some from some artists outside of the specified communities. It makes me smile every time I see one of these "If ___ Were People" videos, since there's always so much inclusion!

Minimalism keeps their letters simple, “hi, love you.” Whereas Lovecore writes entire poems and essays for Minimalism, Minimalism hangs them up to read in passing, and they’re the only “extreme” things in their home. They both love each other equally :]

They should all have some kind of literature club. Minimalist looks like a reader, Dark academia obviously reads and looks like someone who’d enjoy poetry, Lovecore would definitely write love poems and letters, and dreamcore can research for them on their little computer.
There are also plenty of dreamcore/weirdcore books and movies, poetry too. The proto example being, of course, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Those aspects can get lost in pop culture adaptations but the Alice books are so dreamcore.

I'm SOOO happy that you brought up the "dark" part of dark academia. I've noticed that a lot of dark academia art and Pinterest boards romanticize the insanity, like it's noble for the character to be suffering for their craft. I actually have a character that is heavily based on dark academia and I made sure that their vices (bad sleep schedule, drinking, asocialness, obsession with their studies, etc) was seen in a bad light and the point of their arc is to get AWAY from those coping mechanisms.
PS: I would die/kill for Minimalism.

I recently discovered CrowCore, which finally put a name to my actual, real-life existence, and I love it so much. It's very maximalist, with an emphasis on sparkly things, dark nature, and comfy clothes.
If you ever do another video like this, with more aesthetics, I would live to see it included. ^-^

A summary of my understanding of these aesthetics
Minimalism: Ikea core. (this was said in the video but its the best way to describe it)
Lovecore: If those little valentine’s day heart candies with the message on them were also a magical girl.
Dark academia: Dark dusty libraries with an excessive amount of caffeine.
Weirdcore: Windows XP background now with added eyes and cryptic messaging.
I feel like the regular academia aethestic embodies the joy and wonder of learning, while dark academia embodies the other side of the coin. I'm thinking frightening discoveries, sleepless nights over finding out the truth, neglecting your own safety and health in pursuit of knowledge
I feel like there’s also a messy element to it - scattered papers and staying up working on something frantically, where organizing tools like cute schedules are part of the standard academia aesthetic

Nah I just think of dark academia as very calm, comfy setting where you’re reading books while drinking coffee or tea in a library that is dimly lit from the evening sunset, listening to dramatic ballet music or something, all sophisticated… almost like a Sherlock Holmes vibe too!
meanwhile light academia is ballerinas, afternoons, cookies and tea in your beautiful fancy library with shiny shelves and sophistication

I didn't know weird core was a thing and now I love it. How you described it is exactly me as well. I've had chronic nightmares my entire life and I'm an adult now still dealing with them. It's weird but you start to feel sort of attracted to that in your waking life. It's why I'm also very interested in horror, specifically psychedelic horror.

10:15 I've always thought this trend of adding "core" to the end of any word and calling it an aesthetic was dumb, but after hearing it from this persepctive I've realized... it doesn't matter what I think! Just because I don't like it, doesn't mean I have the right to judge anyone. If it makes you happy or helps you in some way, you go for it and don't let anyone tell you to stop. I’d pay to watch a show where all of these characters interact. Like if they lived together they would have to figure out how to consolidate all of their different aesthetics, and would argue if they feel one aesthetic was taking over lol. And just sweet little things like making sure Minimalism has her headphones when she goes out, them taking care of Dark Academia when he’s sick or hurt, stocking the fridge and cabinets with heart-shaped cakes and candies for Lovecore, DA and Dreamcore bonding over their collections of weird and slightly unsettling shit. Idk whenever people make stuff like this I just automatically get these thoughts

Dreamcore and weirdcore have always been interesting to me. It's creepy but somewhat familiar. I love when weirdcore characters have different heads or multiple arms, teeth, mouths, and eyes. I just find it fascinating. Amazing video and the characters represent their aesthetics really well.

you always take your character design above and beyond what’s the obvious expectation. it would be easy if you just made these characters dress in the style of these aesthetics but you really made them the PERSONIFICATION of the visuals and i love that.
My favorites here are Minimalism and Dreamcore (Dreamcore makes sense for me but Minimalism is ironic because I despise that aesthetic, seeing a minimalistic living space/kitchen/etc makes me feel very violent for some reason)

I've been hanging around weird/surrealist aesthetic communities for a while (about 10 years I don't think they were called e.g "weird core" "liminal spaces" yet) but I've always made art (and even tried to find avant guard clothes that matched: it was hard to find trippy geometric patterns on clothes like checker patterns at the time) and hung around blogs with those aesthetics or cores. It feels kind surreal to see them go somewhat mainstream now.
Would love to see different Japanese “kei” styles as character designs! eg. Decora Kei, visual Kei, fairy Kei

Lovecore is wlw hyperfem autism with a special interest in cute and pink things
Dark academia is weird kid in back of class but slightly burned out autistic
Minimalism is a nonverbal autistic with a routine and likes what most people would call “bland” comfort foods but they just like their routine and what makes them happy
Weirdcore is the adhd autism combo
(I see myself the most in minimalism and in weirdcore bc I have adhd and autism and I am also nonverbal and high support)
I’m not saying this is the only right way to interpret characters, this is just my interpretation as an autistic person

As a lover of weird/dream core, there is a story behind wierd/dream core, it was only recogniced as its own aethetic in 2017, it actually began in the early internet, the first wierd/dream core game was "dream emulator"(or something like that) it came out in 1990.
I have no idea why, but minimalist core is giving me like chills and creepy vibes like I don’t know why it’s giving me anxiety. It feels like it’s another stage of the back rooms or something like that like I don’t so like the core.☹️
I love her approach to this set of character designs, she experimented with her style and how she drew each character based on how she imagined them ; t’s really interesting. Beautiful art and vid as always:D

The sweet, the kind, the caring side of love, while completely ignoring the ugly, sickening, and destructive side of love.
Like you said, she refuses to watch a breakup scene in movies/shows because she doesn't want to acknowledge that side of "love", not believing that love could end, or people falling out of love

As someone with an ongoing series going on in my notebooks where I'm trying to create characters based off most of the aesthetics on the wiki (with rules in place ofc, I'm not just about to attempt any old aesthetic on the wiki) I've gotta say, I loved her interpretations on some of the aesthetics I've done myself! I haven't done minimalism yet, but I have done the other three and I do love writing and drawing stuff with them.
My dark academia character is named Edward D. Castenie (no he will not reveal what the D stands for, it's up to everyone to guess, his brothers included.) He's the oldest of three brothers (Rowan, youngest, based off Horror Academia, and Henry, middle, based off Musical Academia) and also their legal guardian, practically lives in his office, where he keeps many secrets such as his pet spider, his meds and a toy possum he got when he was four, that he named Dr Theodore Jean Von Ventricle.
My lovecore character is named Valentina Rozario, I haven't been writing her as much recently but I still love her. She's (naturally) a hopeless romantic, has a girlfriend named Eros, is the sort who.... well, she means well, that's all I can say. Also she's canonically an old-testament cherub, but she doesn't usually show off her true form unless she means business.
And then my dreamcore character (originally weirdcore but sometimes the artistic process just happens) is named Wyrd. I haven't done as much work with her but she's a little shy, mostly nonverbal but when she does speak it sounds like you're listening to her through a walkie-talkie or old-fashioned radio. Also she doesn't like letting people see her mouth, and no one truly knows if she sleeps.

i thought this was a part 2 at first but then when i realized there was no other previous, this was really surprising! because an aesthetics as people video just seems like a no brained for this series. i would love to see more of your interpretations of these aesthetics and -cores ✨✨
