Coquette gives the vibe of when gangs mark territory, when she puts a bow on it, it's hers.
I absolutely love this
Coquette and mob wife are friends now in my head because of this
@@francespt8809 Not me on my way to write a book
I think Coquette is Mob Wife’s daughter who is going through a rebellious phase ala Pubert from the Addams Family
Lol thats me
Maximalism being a dragon makes so much sense. Because of course a dragon would collect and hoard as much treasure as they can, so translate that into an aesthetic and you get a really busy overfilled space
I had to do a project/slideshow on a maximalist artist. Dragons appear in her work a lot.
As a maximalist myself, I do love dragons and can confirm I do be hoarding trinkets like treasure
Considering Dragons are one of those creatures that got(depending on desigin) too many Horns or fins, more then just one head or Tail and let´s Not Forgot the amount of Legs they can have from time to time, Yeah Pretty much.
Just Look at a desigin like drogon from Game of Thrones or The hungarian horntail from Harry Potter.
I actually really like the idea of aesthetics being MONSTERS, the two contrast a little which makes it interesting as aesthetics are usually thought of as fun little themes (most people think of softer cutesy ones)
(For me at least) when someone says aesthetic I think of weird core 😭

sad beige really does make me so sad. i see pictures of sad and bland beige homes and its just :( you know? i feel the same about minimalism
Sad beige can work if it takes a warm, rustic feel where it feels almost like looking at storybooks, but rarely does it end up working that way. I think if people are really set on making a beige house, they should still have a playroom since babies have a difficult time distinguishing shades. Or grab an accent color for some interest! Bright colors don’t have to be artificial and garish!
@@carelessdreameryes!
What makes sad beige sad is that it's minimalist and 100% beige n white. Bad for kids development and usually ugly.
I love beige n brown but not like sad beige moms 😧
whenever i see an animal crossing island/home that's entirely brown, beige and white i get kinda pissed ngl lol
Especially for sad beige moms, ruining the visual development of their child all in the name of aesthetic
Sad beige always immediately reminds me of the old Velvetine Rabbit movie where it's very muted, gentle colors and the outdoor childlike vibes, but then it's kinda depressed thematically. It feels like a Victorian sick room where the mom always goes to die, idk.
Fr :(
Yes
Sorry too dry

When I step into a maximalist but well designed space, I feel like my soul takes a deep breath and wakes up
Literally😭
In the line up, the Mena girl almost looks like she's freaking out about all the monster characters like, "Where the heck did you come from!?" lol I love it
She's the one they're haunting.
She gives off pomni vibes to be honest.
i do like that you didn't make menhera a monster, there's still stigma around mental illness and some of the "scarier" ones are made out to make people seem like monsters
i know this is just a fun concept video but still, it was nice to see that
I like it too, because that's kind of the point of menhera, that mentally ill people aren't "scary" or "monsters" and can still be cute.
Almost puts them in the protagonist role with the other styles as characters they'd encounter.
i fucking hate hospitals and lots of my trauma occurred at hospitals but tbh i kinda like the menhera aesthetic. lavender is right. it does kinda take a serious topic and make it more bearable through ✨style✨
“Menhera” is a Japanese abbreviation of “mental health” and came out as an adjacent to the “yandere” character trope.
As a Japanese, my understanding of the trend is that we put a lot of pressure on girls & women to be cute and appealing, and that the fashion is supposed to be a representation of a girl attempting to “mask” her true-but-struggling, self under ribbons & bows, or “making the most” out of a bad situation by literally and metaphorically“dressing up” scars with rainbow bandages to patch herself together.
In the past, the take on the trend was rather shallow, but nowadays, it’s grown into something greater about a person’s mental health journey.
As a society that almost always ignores invisible illnesses, some people find comfort in making some of it visible through the fashion. Personally, I like it a fair bit, as it really has brought the discussion of mental health more into the mainstream.
7:00 personally i associate being coquette with EDs because well coquette girls on pinterest are usually super skinny, a lot of pro ana blogs have this coquette aesthetic too. Unfortunately someone i know went from an emo look to a strict "coquette" lifestyle and she developped an ED and she's really not doing well so i guess that's what memories this aesthetic triggers for me
im so sorry about your friend… theres 100% roots of that in coquette and most popular feminine styles for sure, but i personally follow a ton of coquette people who are fuller figured and its actually made me fall in love with the style bc you can absolutely achieve it and do it well without perpetuating ed and fatphobia like at its core its a hyperfeminine and soft aesthetic that just likes pinks and bows and lace
This! I laso particularly associate it with the dark side of the ballet industry (EDs, SA, abuse, etc.)
@SunshinePIRRATAi don’t the aesthetic alone is the problem… any aesthetic can and will be used by ppl with ed’s. what the other person said, when more diverse people pick up these styles they can loose that meaning. but when ppl refer to it as a “skinny aesthetic” i feel it pushes ppl away from dressing how they like bc they think they’ll either bc shunned for being skinny and liking it or shunned for not being skinny and wanting to dress that way
@SunshinePIRRATA yeah but style/aesthetic and mentalities can be related....like how white Europeans dressed historically in the past is based on the idea that being pale is good and they wore heels cause seeming tall and powerful was important to them, etc...
I hope you get the comparison.
The coquette aesthetic, while adorable kinda bears the idea that being skinny and small and dainty is cute, being pale and doll like is cute, etc.
I think it can be done well of course but I also think it's wrong to say its absolutely not related to how they dress/look.
I personally don't think the beige aesthetic is completely damned. It would actually be really nice if some pops of pastels were incorporated, not super saturated but alive and cheerful in an understated way.
Yeah, there’s just no balance in a lot of sad beige rooms.
Happy beige
oooh, that would look nice!!! i kind of want to make an oc with those colors now :3
thank you!! :D
@@beansandbunnies3848 Are you gonna post them somewhere? I'd love to see!
@@needle_stuffing7359we need to bring about the happy beige aesthetic exactly as maiaempyrean described 🙈
Art that is meant to comfort the disturbed will undoubtedly disturb the comfortable. That is not to say that art that disturbs you is bad or that you're bad for being disturbed; it just means the art piece isn't *for* you
I like the Menhera one personally because well it just comforts me because it makes me feel noticed makes me feel comfortable because someone else is also going through this sort of thing the way I just thought of myself the minute I saw the characters behaviors is sad but also comforting I’m not trying to offend anyone I just want to say I like the art
That's kind of why I draw myself with the design I do (not my Shaymin profile)
I wanted to look initially unnerving, but with time can become more welcoming, even though the appearance doesn't change. Humanlike enough to pass as just dressing up, but strange enough that being some kind of monster isn't off the table - as defined by what the world seems to expect. Having only black and white with a splash of dark gray, the only place for color at all is the outline itself. A balance where contrast is the cohesion. Maybe uncanny at first, but the more that's understood about what's behind it, the less the mask has to hide without changing.
People will see what they want to anyway.
That's a really good quote. I'm gonna start using that.
The problem with sad beige is that it actually harms a child’s development by depriving them of color, which color can help them learn and develop
people can just say anything nowadays huh
Yeah it’s important to have high contrast colors for babies I think, it’s easier for them to distinguish and helps their eyes develop
@@user-vw4xp5nt9fwdym ?? What the og comment said was true . Children need enough stimulation for a good development.
I remember a joke about an adult who's childhood was devoid of color so when they buy a house every viewable angle from inside has at least 5 colors

SAAMMMEEEEEE, Sad Beige and Minimalism are some of my favourite designs for some reason
the smoke-made ghost on Mob Wife is **ADORABLE?!**
It is
I LOVE the spider mob wife design. Could be a good pun on “a web of crimes” as well!
Our concern with sad beige isn't because of what the child likes but what they need. It's good for their baby brains! That's why kids shows and books and toys are so colorful. It promotes stimulation and growth
I absolutely adore the Menhera character, and aesthetic. As someone who has spent an unhealthy amount of time around hospitals (pun definitely intended) for both physical and mental issues as I was growing up i find it comforting that people can take those things like being in and out of the hospital and make it so that they’re comfortable expressing that. Also there is just something comfy about a properly applied bandage, a sort of gentle pressure that I personally find quite comforting. As ever another fantastic video Lavender, thank you.
personally choosing to headcannon that the Menhera girl hangs out with the monster designs because she sorta views herself as a monster sumtimes
The way lavendertowne draws plus sized people>>>>>>>
i really appreciate you not making the menhera girl a monster! a lot of times, people who are severely mentally or physically ill view themself as a monster or inhuman, so not playing into those negative thoughts is a good change! having chronic illnesses and needing to be in hospitals a lot is scary by itself and the ability to make it something cute and removing the scary aspects from it has helped me and a lot of other chronically ill people view their situation in a better light. i think the community definitely still needs to work on separating from the people who romanticize illnesses and s/h, but the fact that there is a space for chronically ill people to not always view themselves as doomed and alienated is amazing!
Coquette is oddly unsettling but perfect. It really hits the nail on the aesthetics inside out, and what it does to yourself and what you want to hide.
Maybe it’s because I’m a huge fan of mobster themed stuff. Yes I know in reality they are terrible crime lords, but I still love the theme in a fictional setting. It’s still one of my favorite AU themes that I love to do in my fan art
They got style. They're luxurious, dark, and steeped in vice. Personally, I feel like it could work even without the crime, but I guess the crime is what pays for the swagger.
"why the Mafia isn't an aesthetic, a thread"
"I cooka de pizza"
If you're on webtoon, i recommend these webtoons to read. I have a hunch you gonna like em: the mafia nanny. Purple hyacinth
@SunshinePIRRATA
Exactly. But, the crime part adds more.."spice" ,kind of. However, the problem is that sole people asume that mafia its like that
That is more on the people, not the book or story
@SunshinePIRRATA Well, that's true as well.
I think that they don't really know what mafia is about. Even if you were married to the boss, you will have a target on your back, and you could be killed in an instant if it was convenient.
I have an issue with this particular tjeme because I live in a country where, even if it's not the mafia, gangs still exist and..bro, I am terrified of them-
I've heard that Menhera also began as a form of protest against the social rules to hide mental illness (and later illness in general) and sadness, it's sort of an anti-masking and pro-expression of feeling and owning who you are. I always thought that was really cool, and as someone with chronic health conditions, I've found the concept empowering. Your art is so cool, as always!
Omg I have chronic conditions too!!!
The menhera aesthetic reminds me of like, children's bandaids with cartoon characters, or that one brand of menstrual pads for teens - they're made that way to make the pain and the blood less scary. The cute aesthetic mixes nicely with such a dark and stigmatised topic
I feel all of them are friends and coquette + mob wife comforting menhera while sad beige is making tea and maxi is making jokes that everyone is laughing at
9:51 *claws at screen in sudden impassioned effort to steal the ceiling lights, shrieking "SHINY" and "MY PRECIOUS" until spouse arrives with tranquilizer darts*
I made a story concept once that was essentially an inter-dimensional clinic for monster children who were facing some form of abuse, neglect, etc. It’s cool to know now that the sort of vibe I was going for was called Menhera!
Bro i would like to see elements of the periodic table as characters, imagine hanging out with hydrogen and water and they help me with my hydration problems.
That would be wholesome fr
In defense of the sad beige aesthetic, it's pretty good for people who get overwhelmed easily. Sometimes it's just nice to come home to a comforting place after dealing with everything that's overwhelming outside. It is kinda bad for kids who need stimulation and color tho.
It really is great for adults/teens who are prone to overstimulation. If it wasn't bad for children's development, then it would actually make a lot of sense for parents to want less visual business with all that small kids have going on.
@@mewmew6158 I also think that child of hoarder parents would enjoy this type of aesthetics, like when you grew up in perpetually messy and dirty house, having the option to control your own home and make it your ideal of calmness and order must be very conforting!
it made me so happy seeing you do menhera , the whole aesthetic has always been really comforting to me through tough times and such. i like how you explained it and gave context to it as well !
you somehow managed to make sad beige appealing and cute ahaha
I really appreciate your understanding for the menhera aesthetic, I’ve felt kind of bad for participating in it sometimes but it also brings me a lot of comfort and helps me deal with crappy stuff.
And your characters designs are super cute! :)
everyone copes with things differently and personally I think the menhera community/aesthetic wasn't ever that bad. ofcourse it can be a slippery slope with any community about topics like these but as long as you didn't purposfully hurt anyone else it's nothing to be ashamed of. I used to find a lot of comfort in it too, I'm happy we're all okay ♥
These past few days have been amazing. Playing a bunch of dungeons and dragons, unlocking a annoying to get thing in a game, and my year long request of a tank as a character is happening.

As a menhera fan, I really love the way you portrayed it and talked about it like we're not liking this because we think it's aesthetic, we're liking this because it's better for us to deal with our problems that way
I'd love to see a design with super glitchy or technology related aesthetics! Those are personally my favorite bc of all the bright colors, dynamic patterns, really cool effects, and use of negative space. It's really neat to me. 💜👾
I agree!
Personally, I feel like a lot of beige moms grew up in environments where nothing matched or they grew up constantly overstimulated so having control over the colors they fill their house with is cathartic.
I want an au of all these girlies where they're all in a wholesome girl friend group together, I can already see it being wholesome and chaotic at the same time
i actually kind of like 'sad beige', when i was a kid i had some colorful toys and stuff but the rest of our house was very 'dull' a lot of light grey and beige, and i would often just leave my own room for the 'sad beige' because all the colors and things kinda overwhelmed small me lol, to me it's not sad it's just calm, it's empty feeling but not in a sad way
don’t do it for your kids though, you might end up in a home /hj
@@L-ghtlessSky i'll never have kids so that's no problem, no but either way i wouldn't do that, they could pick their own aesthetic lol
I think sad beige is overhated, I get the backlash if you’re trying to make your kids toys beige or just less colorful but maybe I’m biased because my house has always been similar shades so I don’t mind it
@@nine9238 I think most of the hate is moms imposing it on their kids, who actually need the stimulation of colors and patterns. I enjoy the general aesthetic too, like when done with a chosen color for interest in each room, or if it's in only the living room.
@@emia0908 no yes I definitely understand and I agree that children should be exposed to more colors. I myself am against those moms that paint their toys beige and all sad I just like the colors for a house because it makes it look simple
I feel like the beige mom and maximalist characters would be friends...
beige gets overwhelmed a lot, but maxi can help them calm down... but also maxi likes going on and on about their favorite topics, and since beige can't talk, they like listening to all that maxi has to say, especially because beige doesn't have many friends and is pretty lonely. aww this is so cute! I love your art!!
Maximalism my beloved, I love when there's a chaos that still has order. My room is stuffed full of posters, books, art stuff, jars, pillows, blankets, etc. I love thinking of how I can keep a calm environment but still shove more stuff on my bookshelves when I buy something new-
I have always appreciated that tiny details are added and have meanings that make sense.
Hi! It’s always a great day when Lavendertowne posts☺️
The Sad Beige Baby looks like Minimalism's child.
The Menhera character invokes so much moe. I understand how the fashion can easily be problematic but can also function as a kind of empowerment for people with chronic medical struggles. Not a fan of gatekeeping but this seems like one of the more justifiable cases of 'unless you are a part of that group (which I am not FTR), please be very careful and respectful if you're going to engage'.
another issue with a lack of color around young children is that it doesn't allow their sense of sight to develop properly. Children have a hard time distinguishing colors and their ability to distinguish colors, not just by name but to visually distinguish them, is still developing in their early years. The bold, distinct colors help to develop their eyes' ability to percieve colors.
As a former Nurse, Now disabled, I actually really appreciate the *Menhara? ( Spelling?!) Her top Kinda looks a bit like a hospital gown. She's certainly NOT a Monster, but probably feels like one. Bravo Lavender! You are AMAZING!! Love all of your art! The Prion Disease in your recent video also tickled my slightly twisted sense of humor! (Okay I was a Nurse for 28 years, my twists are very twisty!) Thank you so much for giving all of us reasons to smile! 😇😊😸🩷💜🩷💜🩷
would love to see you do an aesthetic like vaporwave because it feels like theres so much potential there
Idea:art styles as people
Didn’t she already do that?
I think her "aesthetics" videos are my fricken favs next to her creepy ones. :3
I feel as though I always try to be a sad beige aesthetic kind of person, because that is what I see in my life as the perfect life. But when you were talking about the goblin core in the last video with a Maximalism core in this video you made it sound so positive (these are my aesthetics) and not critical like how people at my schools when I was younger, I love how you don’t judge the aesthetic or the people who fall under these categories when you make these characters
The femme fatale comparison made me realize why I didn't see a problem with the aesthetic (to be fair, my relationship with aesthetics is drastically different from how the internet wants us to interact with it)
exactly omg!!
Aaaa these designs are so cute 💄💀
the sad beige baby really was sad, you can see they really just are a doll to fit the parents "modern" perspective.
Watching these aesthetic videos and hearing the undertones of what they mean really puts words into why I might like them or find comfort in them
I actually love beige since I'm very sensitive to bright colours and can get overwhelmed. Beige decor makes a room look warm and safe and calming to me. I'm kinda sad that it's called 'sad beige'
i love the little descriptions/character traits for each character
I personally have a Sad-Beige aesthetic, and though I’m not an adult, I would never push my visual preferences onto my children
I read the description. Hope you're doing okay, dude. Hope things get better, or more manageable, at least. 👍
I could see this being an awesome webtoon of just aesthetics all goofing together and making there own drama 🗣️
menhara reminds me of Omori, it's such a cute art style but tackles a lot of dark topics like depression, anxiety, ptsd, etc. It does an amazing job of creating characters you care about ❤
sad beige really fits me as a person the quite kid who just blends into a crowd nothing to special you know.... just the calming sense of nothingness to retreat after a long day of socializing... (For some reason I just noticed all my clothes are either beige, black or white with a few baby pinks and lavenders)
I think making the last one human really adds to it in a weird way, the aesthetic is very focused on humans and humanity so it genuinely makes it stand out in a philosophical kinda way ykyk
MENHERA OMG I LOVE MENHERA SM I LOVE ITTTT
I love how you added the popular Tiktok creator Addy, they're a very big part on talking about the menhera aesthetic and disproves a lot of misinformation about it. Menhera has became a big comfort for me and Addy becoming a comfort creator for me.
As someone obsessed with Steampunk, this video has inspired me to make a Steampunk themed monster, thanks Lavender!
for me menhera feels like a half-escape, allowing myself to embrace the fact that im sick while also not letting it take over my life (its half-mental illness and half-physical illness for me)
Having some of the aesthetics being humans and others being monsters could have a backstory about how that's a thing and how they co-exist.
As someone who loves Menhera for personal reasons, you designed a character based off of it so well, something about them and the aesthetic itself is so insanely comforting,❤
Ur monster actually made sad beige mom more wholesome and cute :( I think if my parents took all the color out of our house I would SOB.
Woah i absolutely love the designs, love how you can make the clothes look stylised by still good looking, love your work!
Menhara feels like it’s just making jokes and memes about having mental health issues, but as an aesthetic, which I totally relate to because I’m always making dark jokes and joking about my mental health state lol 😂
I love watching your character design process in these videos! And I feel extremely seen by Maximalism's personality 😊

I really enjoyed this video! It was interesting to hear some new aesthetics especially the last one and how you designed her. I think my fav of the monsters is maximalism with how much pop of colors they have ❤🎨
oh my god, i LOVVEEE this series!! i don't remember if you've done frutiger aero and or frutiger metro but you totally should!! i think it would be fun for ya
Thinking on it maybe your subconscious want to keep menhera aesthetic a regular character design rather than a monster could stem from both the fact of mental issues being so monstrous in itself and that being a core principle of the aesthetic and/or the fact that you state that it did actually help you go through such a bad time because I know that at least whenever I use something to cope my brain will almost refuse to associate it with anything that might diminish it or keep me away from wanting to use it to continue coping (thankfully it hasn't done this with anything actually harmful in itself since I don't do drugs, smoke, vape, or drink alcohol but it does do this a *lot* with medias like video games, t.v. series, movies, etc.)
havent seen it yet but i love your approach to character design your videos always make me feel safe

Baddie: this aesthetic has been and still is growing popularity on TikTok and instagram, it mainly follows a feminie appearance that give off confidence.
Fairycore: It’s close to cottagecore, but it gives off a mystical feel, often focuses on shades light greens and forest animal prints (think a lighter version of goblin ore).
Devilcore: this is can be a form of goth fashion as this one focuses on the creepy or seductive images of demons. It frequently applies to uses occult, demonic symbols.
Did anyone else have a mini joy-attack when she mentioned thinking about an angel dust redesign? I really hope she makes part 2!! Her redoing of part one was top-tier redesigns, I especially loved Alastar and Husk!!
