Daiwa Steez AIR vs Steez CT Roro Spool Test Casting (ENGLISH)

  • In this video, Daiwa Steez AIR Test Casting (ENGLISH), Hobie-Wan Kenobi cast a Ned Rig and Rapala CD01 with the Daiwa Steez AIR TW and the Daiwa Steez CT with Roro BFS spool. Interesting results and both reels are very good bait finesse reels.
    With a 28mm spool, 9.1 gear ratio, TWS (T-Wing System) and other features, the Daiwa Steez AIR should be a top contender for the Ultimate Bait Finesse Reel. Will it be able to edge out the Aldebaran BFS with Avail spool? Or the Steez CT with Roro BFS spool??? There will stiff competition.

    Nice, I've never used any of those Daiwa BFS reels before, other than a silver pixy with an aftermarket spool. Haven't messed with that reel in a long while either. I use my Scorpion BFS xg a lot though. 2 days ago, I landed a small bass, and 2 pickerel on a 1/8 oz husky jerk, with a cheap Tsurinoya xf-50L reel with some old berkley fireline crystal 6lb . It's on a really cheap Shakespeare micro series 4'6" UL spincast rod. That reel has a newer lighter 9.5 gram spool in it.

    Hobie-Wan,
    A nice review thank you. I don’t understand why the manufacturers don’t put state of the art technology and top of the line components on their upper end reels. That tends to defy logic. Throughout history that has not worked well for anyone and yet they continue to try. I look forward to your next video. It is always too long between them.

    • @HobieWanKenobi
      @HobieWanKenobi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. I need to get more consistent for sure. I still think the Steez AIR is nice and, as far as technology, they put a new 28mm spool in it. They also made it under 4oz reel weight, both a 1st for Daiwa. I am excited to see other reels with the 28mm spool.

      Hobie-Wan,
      I just Googled the Air $68000 yen at today’s exchange rate $630. The Steez CT SV at TW $700. They are both way out of my league. I was surprised at your comment about the handle on a high end reel. At this price point I expect every component to be top of the line. Sure if you want to customize a knob, spool, add color Etc. But the basics should all be there. I am a Diawa customer and fan. I do enjoy the high end reviews. I dream that someday I will be able and willing to buy one regardless of brand. Please keep them coming.

      The Steez CT can be had from places for less than MSRP. Street price is around $480-ish for the CT. Could always go with the Alphas CT with this same spool and get moat of the performace at a much less price.

    @hobie-wan kenobi thanks for the great video! I just purchased the 2019 Steez CT SV, but now I am looking for an after market spool to get started in the BFS world. Which specific spool did you purchase for this video? I am seeing Roro spools on their website for the 2021 Steez CT SV, but they are all sold out. I'm assuming the 2019 and 2021 models are cross compatible and would use the same 30mm spool? Are there any other aftermarket BFS spools that are compatible with the CT sv and other Daiwa models? That way I can shop for those and get lucky finding a spool

    Where I live you can buy the Steez Air for about $50 cheaper than the Steez CT SV TW. Is it worth getting for $50 less?

    • @HobieWanKenobi
      @HobieWanKenobi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say in shirt it would be worth it. Depending on weights you plan on throwing, the Aldebaran BFS or Scorpion BFS or even the Alphas AIR may he a cheaper option. The Steez AIR is a good reel, just expensive compared to the other reels for a small amount of benefit.
      The Steez CT would come with the stock spool and, you could get that Roro spool for really light lures. You would have a wider range of use with the CT that way than the Steez AIR.

I personally do not like the Conquest shape and weight for a BFS reel. They do look really nice though. Plenty of people use them and say good things about them.

    • @HobieWanKenobi
      @HobieWanKenobi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As far as the spool, I would go Avail. Proven system and is that much more money than the Roro. I like the Roro for the Steez CT becuase the aftermarket BFS spools are limited and KTF spools cost more. Most times, people do not even have to upgrade their spools when using a dedicated BFS reel. Really depends on what types of lures you are casting.

      I have not really seen the "made in wherever" thing really hold merit. I think the companies use Made in Japan mainly for marketing. Machines mainly make the reel (components) so, doesnt really matter where the machine is plugged in at.
      Many of the reels made in Japan are the companies higher end reels, which leads to better quality in general.
      I can tell you that myself and most other people who used the Steez AIR would say they are not impressed. It casts really nice but, the retrieve is meshy, handle is crap and also, the reel feels more hollow than the Aldebaran. The Alphas AIR TW has been made in Thailand but, is overall a better reel. Casting is about the same and the retrieve on the Alphas AIR TW is way better. Cosmetics are subjects but, I think it looks better too...especially the handle. The Alphas AIR TW is also half the price of the Steez.
