It was my first ever away trip as a Bristol Rovers fan. 1957. We won 4 -3. I thought that the stadium was pretty good. It was a 36-hour trip by rail. I slept for 12 hours when I got home at 7.00 am on Sunday morning. Always had a soft spot for Scunny since then. Good luck for the season!
glad to hear scunthorpe united are safe as a halifax town supporter we know what you are going through we have been there, by the way the seats in our skirkcoat road stand are from one of the old stands at the old showground just thought you would like to know. good luck DAZ
As a kid I used to climb over at the Parkinson avenue end but was disappointed as it was standing room only and we couldnt see anything, it was 1963 when SUFC was in div 2 with the mighty Liverpool..my cousin Kevin played for SUFC for a while in the seventies
Old town centre grounds becoming retail or housing ,and clubs moving to out of town sites became quite common here in Scotland .st johnstone in 1989 followed by Stirling Albion and Airdrie in the 90s,and later st mirren in 2009.
I was at Broomfield and love st fairly often from late 60s to early 80s.still a few virtually unchanded grounds around,Ayr utd,Morton, queen of South, arbroath, glentoran.pre internet I used to get my stadium info from Simon inglis excellent books, don't know if they're still available,he did one on Europe too.
Another of the old grounds I never visited, but I wish I had. Glanford Park's a good venue for watching football but, aside from the floodlights, from the outside it looks like some sort of industrial unit. Sorry to hear of Scunthorpe Utd's financial concerns, but I'm pleased to hear Southend Utd. seem to have been saved from liquidation. Up The Gas!
The club has new owner now in David Hilton, new management team, as of Feb 2023, may or may not be in time to avoid another drop to National North, but the club is back on a firm footing. The OSG was a magic place but would have cost too much to modernise in the 80s hence the move.
Could you please do Carlisle United, Carlisle have been at Brunton Park since 1909, technically Carlisle United have never changed ground, it would still be nice if you could do Carlisle United, or Workington Reds, I don't know when Workington Reds played their first game at Borough Park, that would be an interesting vlog also, Wimbledon took Workington's place in the football league in 1977, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumberland, England

Scunthorpe United's record attendance of 23,935 was set at the Old Show Ground on 30 January 1954 for an FA Cup 4th round tie against Portsmouth
Thanks for this….remember Scunthorpe v Leeds in the FA Cup in the 80’s…..that was interesting 😊

Our town scapes are changing fast. You are curating an important reference library before our once loved grounds are forgotten altogether.
Thanks for watching this video
My home town and the first football ground that i visited.

As a Grimsby fan I can still see the beauty in that ground .
Thanks for watching

Thanks. Went there with my granddad and years later with my younger brother

Great piece. Brought back happy memories of time at the OSG. Thank you!
Cheers Simon
Remember we beat Swansea playoff at home the almostment was brilliant we need to do the same
Spent much of the 70 s and early 80 s watching the iron at the old show ground....when you got a decent crowd in the atmosphere was really good...
Thanks for watching the video and commenting

I did a video on Love Street and Broomfield Park.

Glanford Park does not have the same atmosphere as the Old Showground. It has a smaller capacity
I would imagine it wouldn't have the same atmosphere
Kevin Keegan, Ray Clemence including Steve Cammock, Ian Botham and Martin Bakes once graced this field
When I lived in Scunthorpe I saw Steve Cammock and Ian Botham
Another of the old grounds I never visited, but I wish I had.

Up The Gas!
It looks like they must of been saved because March 1 was the deadline day.
Yeah - their owner paid the outstanding tax bill with hours to go.
Thanks for the Memories 😢
It's no bother.
I had some good times. At the old show ground and some bad but great memories SUFC TiD

I think the ground they built to replace the old Showground looks like an alright ground.
We have a showground here in oz too lol
Yes Chikita....

I could do a story on Carlisle United.
thankyou, that would be great
Nice old fashioned stadium developed piecemeal that was clearly not viable for redevelopment
Can’t believe they replaced the old show ground with that B&Q tin shed piece of shit
