Bradford Park Avenue as a Football League club were before my football match attending days. However, I used to walk by the site of the ground on the way to my placement at the Canterbury Estate Community Centre whilst I was at college in 1981-82. I watched that other video you referenced a few weeks back; as you'll have gathered I, like your good self, am fascinated by history. Up The Gas!
Cheers, thanks for watching. I remember driving past where Park Avenue Stadium once stood. I don't think many people in Bradford would know about it now.
Interesting video as always! Just wanted to add that 2 or 3 famous footballers that played for Bradford Park avenue whilst they were still a football league club were Len Shackleton started his career at Bradford before joining Newcastle for a short period then Sunderland, Kevin Hector pstarted his professional football career with Bradford before joining Derby County in 1966 and winning 2 first division championships under Brian Clough in 1972 and Dave mackay in 1975. Also i think the late Ron greenwood of England manager fame played for Bradford. Find these ex football league clubs fascinating if very sad how they ended up goingbout of business/ losing their Foootball league status. Keep up the good work best regards JC Milne.
Very interested to hear of that connection with rugby league and the "betrayal", which I didn't know about. That stand designed by Leach looks to be excellent quality. Bradford PA lost their league status before I was a football fan, so I never went there unfortunately.
I have some childhood memories of watching Bradford P.A. here. They should never have sold Kevin Hector. I think the fastest goal in the league was scored here by Jim Fryatt being 4 seconds.
Attended a West Riding cup game in the early 70’s, stood behind the goal, pitch at eye level, with a steep slope diagonally from the corner post to the diagonally opposite corner. Better stadium at the time in comparison to Valley Parade.
I found this on Google. In 1911, Bradford changed its colours to green and white after the appointment of former Celtic player Tom Maley, brother of Willie Maley (who also played for Celtic before becoming their first manager). Avenue was the only club to wear green and white in the English First Division, between 1914 and 1921. The club reverted to red, amber and black with white in 1924, reviving green and white from 1958 to 1967. The reformed Bradford (Park Avenue) club has worn green and white since 1988. Avenue's club crest was the 1907 version of the Bradford coat of arms; this has also been used by the re-formed club, although it was replaced by the municipality in 1974
It sounds a bit like the ground was too big for the club. It seems they never sold out once. Even for a massive derby against Leeds in the days of huge attendances, it fell short by 5000.
Think Bradford park avenues last crowd over 10,000 was against a Fulham side including John Haynes Alan Clarke Bobby Robson World Cup winner George cohen and like now in the top division ,early 1967 1-3 to Fulham .

Thanks for posting . A big ground with loads of character. Remember it still being fairly intact when I went to investigate as a young lad in 77
Thank You for watching and commenting.
Thank you for this video! Amazing knowledge being passed on here
Thanks for watching the video.
Great video bud. It'd be good if you could do one on Accrington Stanley's old ground which was right next to the "new" one.
Cheers, thanks for watching.
Really enjoyed this. Thank you
Thanks for watching
Fascinating stuff as always.

I used to go watch Avenue with a friend from school around 1969/70 , Still have the scarf from those days, It's Red White and Yellow
That would be worth something.

It looked a nice Stadium. Reminds me a lot of Craven Cottage with the pavilion in the corner.
Great vid. Such a shame about the demise of Park Avenue FC though.
Cheers, thanks for watching.

Four seconds, that's crackers
@@historyoffootball87 Yes, my understanding is that that was the ref's timing.
Great video

@@1990-t1j I have a rugby league youtube channel as well, Rugby League History.
Attended games regularly in the 60s and next door watching Yorkshire's great cricket team of that era. Sad loss to sport.
Thanks for watching the video
Fantastic ground and regret that I never got the chance to see it.
Thanks for watching the video
Anyone know if BPA historically use to play moreso in a green/white combo or was it moreso a white/green combo?

@@historyoffootball87 Wow! Thank u brother!
Bradford Northern colours are too near Bradford City colours.
Green and white BPA.
Another excellent video. You didn’t sell your rugby channel very well what is it called?

I couldn't really find any information for what their attendances were like back in the old days.
