I don't really think they have bad reliability, that seems to be from their older laptops and battery issues. I've had my 2020 blade for 4 years with no issues ever. Meanwhile, I've had 3 friends with Asus laptops that have all went to shit, but no one seems to care about that lol

Razer just has horrible reliability. I used to buy razer mice, but after 3 of them developing the same buggy left click after 1-3 years, I switched to roccat and then Logitech. Never an issue with those. Their laptops also seem to be very unreliabile. Asus g14 I only heard good thing gst.

Yikes $2700! I see the Acer Predator 14 on sale at Amazon recently for $1200, with 4070, 240hz mini led with gsync. and intel 13th gen. I’ve owned this for the past 6 months and it has been a brilliant machine for the money.

Having easy to access wifi card, replaceable RAM and an SSD is a massive argument for the Razer Blade 14. It's just a bit of a shame that they still can't figure out a good laptop keyboard, considering that they got big as a company with keyboards.

Everytime I use it, i feel like the keycap is filled with oils and sweat compare to my g14 2022. I do say, Dell's keyboard is the best. (Yes I do clean the keyboard on the mac, and yes it still feels oily and trash). PS, I have used two macbook so far 2019 13 inch mac pro, and 2020? 14 inch mac air (m1)
95% of laptop buyers never open their laptop, for obvious reasons, so replaceable components is not a thing for the majority. Some people still live in the modular 20th century and cannot adapt to new ways and therefor miss out on the fastest RAM, and lower latency SSD performance. But that is your choice. From all the studies, SSD and RAM failure is almost non-existent outside the warranty hence the move to soldered. This is not the 1980s where RAM and hard drives fail more regularly.
I bought last year's version of this laptop specifically because of the upgradable RAM over a few of the other options that were out there. Been very happy with it.
I’m using my 2017 Razer 14 inch everyday. $2,100 for non-upgradable 16gb ram, a GTX 1060, a 4 core Intel CPU, a 4K screen that gets fuzzy under max load, and 3 battery changes… Videos like these always make me consider upgrading. I hope Razer’s reliability has only increased since then.
I think 3 battery changes is absolutely fair after 6-7 years of heavy use, especially if u dont take the best care of the battery. I personally daily drive a 2021 Blade 15, a Viper Ultimate, and a huntsman mini, and they've held up like brand new.

I gave it to my little brother and one year later, the battery was completely dead. You stop plugging and the laptop is dead. The thing to look for is the heat emitting from the laptop, battery easily die if the laptop gets too hot so do use it with care. Game for 1-2 hours and just shut it off until it cools down or just do other light work for it to cool down. Dell G5 5500 easily gets hot and I guess this was one of the main reason for the battery die as my little brother game from morning until evening and never quit the game.

USB 4 vs Thunderbolt 4 would be a good video for Techquickie. I think there are slight differences in throughput, DMA, and monitor support but it’s a bit convoluted. I have an AMD laptop with USB4 and I’m using a Thunderbolt dock no problem.
I always assumed that their audio gear and pc peripherals was managed by the Singapore HQ, while the laptop managed by the USA HQ. But thinking about the pricing, its more likely that all products were produced by the SG side, while the marketing controlled by the USA side.
I bought a brand new Razr in 2019, the motherboard failed after 1 year. And it was a pain to get them to cover that because it was "past the warranty period". I basically had to leave review on 10 different channels before someone reached out to solve the problem. If i spend a few grand on a laptop, I expect either really good customer service and/or really freaking good reliability. But i know some Razr fan boys will disagree

It's being run through Premiere Pro's Audio Enhancer which makes certain voices sound more vocal fry-ish if they're soft spoken, and levels out the EQ. I use it frequently enough to detect when it's being used. It's better used in moderation, but it sounds like they cranked it all the way up in this video
Framework is the ONLY "Green" option. Once they provide a reasonable option for an external GPU, it will be my daily driver. Unfortunately its not great at gaming and USB4 is sad for eGPU
I'd say don't downplay the Radeon 780M. That thing can do e-sports titles at mid to high settings with a solid 60fps. Granted, 1080p or 720p if you don't have FSR on, but that's still pretty crazy for integrated graphics. Integrated graphics used to look like accidental Minecraft mod on any game, but now it's honestly a literal game changer... As long as you have a ton of very fast ram. I can't wait for mainstream handheld consoles to start using it, and the next iteration in two or three years will only get better.
I have the 2021 version with a 3070, I bought it when I had cancer and going through treatment, I could game on it but man did it get hot. Got an under-fan thing and it was fine after that. Nearly $3000 back then but I still use/have it. The construction is amazing, my daughter used it for a year or so and it still looked brand new. I give them a thumbs up for the product, but not the price.
Got a Blade. Had to send it in for repair 3 times because of random components just failing. Once the warranty expired, Razer in the kindest way told me to fuck right off. Don't buy their garbage.
@5:43 "a very very fast 4070" - This is 100% going to be misconstrued for sponsor-sake. It's performance is in line with a 4070, because its a 4070. What's worse is there are many cards that beat a 4070 in performance that could have been at this same price point. I'm kind of whelmed by this laptop.
The thing here is the wattage. It's a 4070 that can draw up to 140W, so it won't be as good as a Desktop 4070, but it would probably be better than the 4070s in the 2024 versions of ASUS G14s, because those can only draw about 90W. Of course I don't know by heart how much of a difference 50W would have, when fully utilized.
@@patozarantonello8572 you can limit the max Battery charge via Razer Synapse between 50-80%, so it wont be at 100% all the time. Playing games without the charger gives you a massive drop in performace.
Re. NPUs - I got a laptop from Lenovo with the 7840HS - not able to use the NPU! Turns out Lenov failed to enabled it in the bios, extremely frustrating! I only chose the AMD version because of that NPU.
Kind of weird that you did the gaming benchmarks at 1080p instead of the native resolution of the display. I wouldnt technically call it misleading since its clearly labeled, but nobody is gonna run it that way
I would instead buy a G14 with soldered RAM and get a better device that costs less. But if upgrading your RAM sometime in the distant future is important, then spend more for less.

The build quality is shit. I've bought Razer Blade 15 last year, and it just falls apart from normal usage. Frame is attached to bottom lid with small, fragile plastic pieces, that break under any normal tension - power connectors, usb, mini jack, any pressure on these will cause those plastic pieces to snap, and your bottom half of laptop will start to squeak and eventually fall off. You will have to deal with soft, shitty screws to disassemble it, that immediately being "eaten" by your screwdriver, and you will have to look for screws on Amazon or something, then you will have to superglue those plastic corner pieces together, and maybe it will work for another week or two. Razer software constantly fails to start or update itself (especially if you have to switch Windows users, like, between work and private profile). It heats the frame so much, that it burns your legs if you hold it on your lap, defeating the name "laptop", because its impossible to use it on your lap. For comparison - my mac m1 and asus G14 also hot under load, but somehow its still pretty comfortable using on your lap without making a barbeque from your legs. So fuck Razer.

Those two RAM slots are a HUGE win! Especially since ASUS dropped the single RAM slot on the 2024 Zephyrus G14. I love to see upgradability on laptops, especially from manufacturers like Razer.

I'm a sucker for the aesthetics of the Blade compared to other laptops and I don't mind paying more, while it doesn't have the best performance compared to competitors. What's holding me back is the reliability. I had a 2018 blade and parts slowly broke one by one within a year.
Trust Razer's build quality or no, but if they send you a lemon, do not trust their Extended Care service. I've had to send my 2021 model Razer Blade 14 in four times for the same grinding faulty left fan. And this latest go around, they have lied, multiple times on the phone, about having approved and sent my pre-paid shipping label.
There is a new form factor for laptop memory on the horizon, CAMM2. Also, while it's nice that the industry has standardize storage drives us the m.2 regular size, 2280, the m.2 interface does have standard sizes that can be much shorter, like 2230, 2242, and 2260. Just saying if people are paying the price for this pricey Razer laptop that I'd hope next generation can have these space saving measures. Also, I'm sad to not know what it means to have a RTX 4080 means closer to nothing. Now that it's all depending on what wattage and clock speeds the manufacture has chosen, rather then to find if 2 manufactures use the same GPU die you'll get about the same performance. These current GPUs today are just so hot.
I always felt that Razer was the laptop to get if you needed gaming laptop performance for something that looked more similar to a Dell XPS. Nowadays gaming laptops are so much more bespoke compared to 5, 6 years ago
At this size, I actually would've preferred 1200p instead because lower power, decent battery life and better native performance. Windows needs at least a manual way of setting screen resolution and screen size. It would then allow Windows to use some sort of algorithm to calculate how to display on its respective screen.
I just can't understand the appeal to Razer laptops. Sure, they look decent and are built decent, but literally every other manufacturer is just about caught up in terms of build quality, while still maintaining a reasonable price point. Razer prices their gear about 35% over the average similarly specced laptop. Unfortunate.
I will forever be sad that I never pulled the trigger on one of the first Razer Blade 17" models with that sweet LCD track pad on the right of the keyboard. So innovative looking. This looks great. Way too expensive unfortunately.
Razer traded a larger battery for socketed memory. Sure it’s not going to be as fast as LPDDR, but hey, props for Razer for making a sacrifice to make sure someone several years down the line, can still have options when 32GB of memory becomes the new 16GB
From what I have seen in gaming tests, 16GB is more than enough for system memory, and an 8GB vRAM is also more than enough for 99% of games. With AI and frame interpolation I suspect gaming will become even less RAM-intensive and I do not see 32GB having any usefulness going forward. If you are a professional using for creator work then you would not even look at this as 64GB is the starting point; 32GB for semi-pro workflows.
If I had to buy a 14 inch gaming laptop, this is pretty much the only option I would buy. It actually has the highest GPU power limit (even if it is still voltage limited), has a great screen, and actually keeps both RAM slots so it can be upgraded easily. Not to mention it has per key RGB lighting with both colors of chassis having dark keys (so you don't get light colored keys with white backlighting which is pretty much useless). I don't see much of a reason for this year's G14 to exist, unfortunately. The second the 2023 model goes on sale, I'd just pick that up over the G14.
There's been some super wonky sound quality coming out of the videos recently, it sounds like some AI stuff that's trying to fix some echo or something? It's really uncanny and sticks out
8gb of vram for a 16:10 1440p screen? Considering more and more modern games are whining because i only have 8gb of vram at 1080p already.... As much as everything else on it is great, hard pass.
I saw a test between 8GB and 16GB vRAM and mostly the games are optimised enough for 8GB with very few breaking 7GB. Also, higher config dGPU have diminishing returns in thin and light machines like this and will probably cause the machine to age faster due to the heat. 8GB vRAM is enough for nearly everyone.

The problem is the new Asus g14 has a similar build quality (DRAMATICALLY improved from previous gens) and is a whopping $600 less than the razer for the same specs AND even has a better OLED screen vs the razers IPS.
I bought an Acer Predator with an i9 and 3070 for around GB£1200 last year and it's 144hz and 17", great for gaming once the i9 heat is under control. This, the MSI, laptop will be on sale in 6 months so buy it then and save $1000.

Honestly, this needs an integrated graphics version. Not everyone is gaming. And not everyone needs a MacBook for work. We need a MacBook quality build pc that is upgradeable and runs anything we want. Then this would be a steal. Probably one of the best Linux machines too. Without the GPU it could easily be priced at 1200-1400.
I'm right now searching for this exact thing and I just don't find anything like a Blade without GPU. I want a good CPU-heavy machine without a GPU and high build quality and I'm even willing to pay more than 2k$, but there's just nothing really out there that fits my requirements.
Frankly if they knocked the price down a peg this would be a no brainers. Currently, it's the best looking gaming laptop, the most stealthy one, the most repairable / upgradable one, with good performance, great screen and hardware. I'd pick it over an xps in a heartbeat

razer has their fair share of issues but i sincerely can't remember ANY laptop that went from soldered memory in one year to real upgradable dimms the next. it's always the other way around it'd be like if car companies started putting manuals back into new cars that lost them in previous years

It's being run through Premiere Pro's Audio Enhancer which makes certain voices sound more vocal fry-ish if they're soft spoken, and levels out the EQ. I use it frequently enough to detect when it's being used. It's better used in moderation, but it sounds like they cranked it all the way up in this video
Framework is the ONLY "Green" option. Once they provide a reasonable option for an external GPU, it will be my daily driver. Unfortunately its not great at gaming and USB4 is sad for eGPU

I'd say don't downplay the Radeon 780M. That thing can do e-sports titles at mid to high settings with a solid 60fps. Granted, 1080p or 720p if you don't have FSR on, but that's still pretty crazy for integrated graphics. Integrated graphics used to look like accidental Minecraft mod on any game, but now it's honestly a literal game changer... As long as you have a ton of very fast ram. I can't wait for mainstream handheld consoles to start using it, and the next iteration in two or three years will only get better.
I have the 2021 version with a 3070, I bought it when I had cancer and going through treatment, I could game on it but man did it get hot. Got an under-fan thing and it was fine after that. Nearly $3000 back then but I still use/have it. The construction is amazing, my daughter used it for a year or so and it still looked brand new. I give them a thumbs up for the product, but not the price.

@5:43 "a very very fast 4070" - This is 100% going to be misconstrued for sponsor-sake. It's performance is in line with a 4070, because its a 4070. What's worse is there are many cards that beat a 4070 in performance that could have been at this same price point. I'm kind of whelmed by this laptop.
The thing here is the wattage. It's a 4070 that can draw up to 140W, so it won't be as good as a Desktop 4070, but it would probably be better than the 4070s in the 2024 versions of ASUS G14s, because those can only draw about 90W. Of course I don't know by heart how much of a difference 50W would have, when fully utilized.

The only batery issue i could think wiht laptops is playing games wiht the charger conected causing the batery to degrade overtime

@@patozarantonello8572 you can limit the max Battery charge via Razer Synapse between 50-80%, so it wont be at 100% all the time. Playing games without the charger gives you a massive drop in performace.
Re. NPUs - I got a laptop from Lenovo with the 7840HS - not able to use the NPU! Turns out Lenov failed to enabled it in the bios, extremely frustrating! I only chose the AMD version because of that NPU.

I would instead buy a G14 with soldered RAM and get a better device that costs less. But if upgrading your RAM sometime in the distant future is important, then spend more for less.

I think I won the silicon lottery with my 2020 1660ti 15" model, because I've had one blue screen in 4 years with no other issues. Probably just gonna do hardware upgrades since nothing else is a problem. Hopefully it stays that way.
The upgradable ram is a massive W, the previous gen did not have that and was soldered on.

The build quality is shit. I've bought Razer Blade 15 last year, and it just falls apart from normal usage. Frame is attached to bottom lid with small, fragile plastic pieces, that break under any normal tension - power connectors, usb, mini jack, any pressure on these will cause those plastic pieces to snap, and your bottom half of laptop will start to squeak and eventually fall off. You will have to deal with soft, shitty screws to disassemble it, that immediately being "eaten" by your screwdriver, and you will have to look for screws on Amazon or something, then you will have to superglue those plastic corner pieces together, and maybe it will work for another week or two.
Razer software constantly fails to start or update itself (especially if you have to switch Windows users, like, between work and private profile).
It heats the frame so much, that it burns your legs if you hold it on your lap, defeating the name "laptop", because its impossible to use it on your lap.
For comparison - my mac m1 and asus G14 also hot under load, but somehow its still pretty comfortable using on your lap without making a barbeque from your legs.
So fuck Razer.

Yeah, we know Alex well enough by now to know that based on his reactions to some aspects of this sponsored video, the keyboard on this laptop sucks, the speakers suck, the webcam sucks, the AI is marketing garbage, and the price is horrendous.
Those two RAM slots are a HUGE win! Especially since ASUS dropped the single RAM slot on the 2024 Zephyrus G14.

I'm a sucker for the aesthetics of the Blade compared to other laptops and I don't mind paying more, while it doesn't have the best performance compared to competitors. What's holding me back is the reliability. I had a 2018 blade and parts slowly broke one by one within a year.
Trust Razer's build quality or no, but if they send you a lemon, do not trust their Extended Care service. I've had to send my 2021 model Razer Blade 14 in four times for the same grinding faulty left fan. And this latest go around, they have lied, multiple times on the phone, about having approved and sent my pre-paid shipping label.
Razer having a THX certification means literally nothing considering they own THX.

There is a new form factor for laptop memory on the horizon, CAMM2. Also, while it's nice that the industry has standardize storage drives us the m.2 regular size, 2280, the m.2 interface does have standard sizes that can be much shorter, like 2230, 2242, and 2260. Just saying if people are paying the price for this pricey Razer laptop that I'd hope next generation can have these space saving measures. Also, I'm sad to not know what it means to have a RTX 4080 means closer to nothing. Now that it's all depending on what wattage and clock speeds the manufacture has chosen, rather then to find if 2 manufactures use the same GPU die you'll get about the same performance. These current GPUs today are just so hot.

I always felt that Razer was the laptop to get if you needed gaming laptop performance for something that looked more similar to a Dell XPS. Nowadays gaming laptops are so much more bespoke compared to 5, 6 years ago
At this size, I actually would've preferred 1200p instead because lower power, decent battery life and better native performance.
Windows needs at least a manual way of setting screen resolution and screen size. It would then allow Windows to use some sort of algorithm to calculate how to display on its respective screen.

I just can't understand the appeal to Razer laptops. Sure, they look decent and are built decent, but literally every other manufacturer is just about caught up in terms of build quality, while still maintaining a reasonable price point. Razer prices their gear about 35% over the average similarly specced laptop. Unfortunate.

Razer traded a larger battery for socketed memory. Sure it’s not going to be as fast as LPDDR, but hey, props for Razer for making a sacrifice to make sure someone several years down the line, can still have options when 32GB of memory becomes the new 16GB
From what I have seen in gaming tests, 16GB is more than enough for system memory, and an 8GB vRAM is also more than enough for 99% of games. With AI and frame interpolation I suspect gaming will become even less RAM-intensive and I do not see 32GB having any usefulness going forward. If you are a professional using for creator work then you would not even look at this as 64GB is the starting point; 32GB for semi-pro workflows.
If I had to buy a 14 inch gaming laptop, this is pretty much the only option I would buy. It actually has the highest GPU power limit (even if it is still voltage limited), has a great screen, and actually keeps both RAM slots so it can be upgraded easily. Not to mention it has per key RGB lighting with both colors of chassis having dark keys (so you don't get light colored keys with white backlighting which is pretty much useless).
I don't see much of a reason for this year's G14 to exist, unfortunately. The second the 2023 model goes on sale, I'd just pick that up over the G14.

There's been some super wonky sound quality coming out of the videos recently, it sounds like some AI stuff that's trying to fix some echo or something? It's really uncanny and sticks out
8gb of vram for a 16:10 1440p screen? Considering more and more modern games are whining because i only have 8gb of vram at 1080p already.... As much as everything else on it is great, hard pass.
I saw a test between 8GB and 16GB vRAM and mostly the games are optimised enough for 8GB with very few breaking 7GB. Also, higher config dGPU have diminishing returns in thin and light machines like this and will probably cause the machine to age faster due to the heat. 8GB vRAM is enough for nearly everyone.
@@andyH_England The power of the dgpu isn't the issue here. But the eventual vram bottleneck. This isn't a 1080p machine after all.
@@ylandry0783 That is what I said. I saw a video testing 8 GB versus higher and at 1440p and the games all coped with 8 GB, apart from one that probably was poorly optimised.
The problem is the new Asus g14 has a similar build quality (DRAMATICALLY improved from previous gens) and is a whopping $600 less than the razer for the same specs AND even has a better OLED screen vs the razers IPS.
I bought an Acer Predator with an i9 and 3070 for around GB£1200 last year and it's 144hz and 17", great for gaming once the i9 heat is under control. This, the MSI, laptop will be on sale in 6 months so buy it then and save $1000.

Not everyone is gaming. And not everyone needs a MacBook for work. We need a MacBook quality build pc that is upgradeable and runs anything we want. Then this would be a steal.

I'm right now searching for this exact thing and I just don't find anything like a Blade without GPU. I want a good CPU-heavy machine without a GPU and high build quality and I'm even willing to pay more than 2k$, but there's just nothing really out there that fits my requirements.
Frankly if they knocked the price down a peg this would be a no brainers. Currently, it's the best looking gaming laptop, the most stealthy one, the most repairable / upgradable one, with good performance, great screen and hardware. I'd pick it over an xps in a heartbeat

razer has their fair share of issues but i sincerely can't remember ANY laptop that went from soldered memory in one year to real upgradable dimms the next. it's always the other way around it'd be like if car companies started putting manuals back into new cars that lost them in previous years
