For Manual it’s the same thing except you leave it in neutral of course. Worked great 👍 Thank you for this video. Had my alternator and starter changed and this started happening. Was told to use a injector cleaner aka gas additive. I did but that didn’t work. This video solved my issue. 🙏👍🇺🇸

Anytime. Also a few notes. I was having this issue again because I tried to reset the idle at work early in the morning, which screwed it up, because my lights were on. You cannot have your lights, fan, accessories, AKA camera, charger nothing plugged in or on while doing this. There needs to be no extra load. Hope this helps.

My wife's 2002 Toyota Sequoia's headlight switch went out. While I was working on that, I unhooked the battery for about 45-60 minutes. When I installed the new switch and put everything back together, the car ran rough and wouldn't idle. I thought I did something wrong installing the switch, even though I knew I did it correctly. I had no idea about this issue until I did a search for 'rough idle' on the vehicle. I found your video, and I fixed it in minutes! If I would have taken it to a shop, they probably would have charged me a couple hundred dollars for nothing! THANK YOU!!

Almost cried after having my 2002 RAV4 break down at work getting it towed home replacing the alternator and battery and then having an extremely rough idea to the point I almost lost my mind thinking it was another issue. this saved me from replacing a lot of idle sensors and hassle. Had a blown starter fuse and removed my battery to trouble shoot some issues and my tundra was idling really bad once I got everything else replaced. I thought it was my MAF sensor or the TPS sensor but did this reset and now my truck idles smooth. Thanks again!

  • @cbrbimmer1

Just to be clear, after the ignition is turned on and off two times, the next step is to START the engine (not simply "CRANK" the engine as stated here). As to applying the parking brake after starting car, I'm sure that this procedure would work if the parking brake was applied at the get go. The point of applying the parking brake is to avoid moving the car when the transmission is subsequently put into Drive. Obviously, perhaps, you should also remain in the car once it is started and place into Drive. It might even be a good idea to rest your foot on the brake pedal because sometimes parking brakes will not hold a car still which is in gear especially if the idle is too high.

Gave this a go on my 2008 Toyota RAV4 2.0 petrol (Manual). Worked a treat.
I have been experiencing the car trying to rectify the idle when at a traffic light, was really annoying and wasn’t pleasant to drive. This process took around 5 minutes and the car is running great now.
NB: if you have a manual leave it in neutral while doing the steps in the video. Make sure the vehicle is warm when doing this and make sure the lights, fan/AC or anything that will draw power is turned off.

Excellent video. Unhooked the Battery terminal 1 month ago as some work panel & paint on 2000 Spaccio auto. When finished work and erconnected battery throttle was idling fast 1300rpm and when hot 1800 rpm. Was dangerous driving in Traffic. External throttle adjustment screw was not touching any on the body so wasn't that, so had to be internal in throttle body or Engine Management Unit. Found this video and undertook instructions for about 20 mins. all good now. Back to normal now so thanks for your video Walker.

Just did this on my son's 2000 tundra and worked like a champ. Battery went bad and had to be replaced. After that it was idling low and if you revved the motor it would drop to about 300 rpm and shut off. Went through these steps and while watching the tac and you could actually see it learning the new level. Started with low rpm and over about 5 minutes it seemed to slowly bump up about 50 rpm every minute or so until it settled in over about 5 minutes.

I have to admit I had my doubts. Just had a new transmission, throttle position sensor, and IAC valve put in by my mechanic on a 2001 Toyota Tacoma Doublecab with 390,000 miles. The idle in park was at 1500 cold and 1200 warm. Idle in drive was sitting at 1200, street speed of 30mph at 1500, and at highway speed of 65mph it was at 2500 the whole way. Acceleration on highway to pass cars was pinging at 3200. With overdrive off, it was nearly redlining. Was gonna take it back and have it adjusted until I stumbled on this video. Gave it a try and it dropped my idle in park to around 900 and street speed of 30mph at 1100 to 1200. Will give it a try on the highway next. This just saved me time and distance to take it back. Will see if this lasts.

Does this work if the RPM's are idling really low as well? It seems like a lot of people are saying their RPM's are high and then this trick fixed it and got the RPM's lower..I had my starter replaced and my battery died and was rehooked back up and now my RPM's are really low and rattly, and the sound gets really bad when the RPMs dip low into the 500 range. Thanks

Thank you very much for this vedio. My car started this Morning and drove for 10-20 minutes. I felt different noise. When I came in front of my garage it stopped. Tried to jump start but it started and died immediately. Took to AutoZone and changed battery . Started car but it will start but dies immediately. Checked alternator and replaced new. Started car but it will stop minute I remove foot from gas. Mechanic told to drive around and it will rest up. He told me if it did not work may have to reset with machine. I drove home with 3-4 stop . I found this vedio and did exactly and idle was reset to 500 rpm. Now it starts.

thx buddy worked on my 4runner 2004. Cant put in drive as brake cylinder is failing but after a battery jump start rough idle kicked in and made check engine turn on. Disconnected battery for 10 min for ECU to reset, did the trick twice, put handbrake and just revved above 700rpm por approx 5 minutes like real life conditions. Idle settled at 600rpm and no more check engine. Time to fix brake now.

Hello, does the car have to be running to do this or just in the ON position. My 1999 RX300 doesn’t want to idle and keeps stalling out. Please let me know. Thank you!

Wow. Seems to have worked on my hybrid. Just did the same sequence and waited for the engine to start itself again, about eight minutes like you said. Thank you.

Well, my son's 2005 Corolla had been revving a little bit high and could not fix it by cleaning chokes, replacing O2 sensor etc. I should have known this before trying things that did not work. Thank you very much!

My friends ac works great but stops blowing cold
at idle. I hear that 600 to 1000 rpm is right, but his
won't come back on till its above 1000, I think
1100 or 1200 rpm. Ideas? Air control valve? Or Reset
as in this video? 2002 Highlander. Thanks....

I had my battery/alternator replaced and needless to say the revs were waaaaay down. Followed these instructions and the revs climbed within seconds to a smoother level. Thank you very much. :)
