- The Goosebumps Chillogy is a very special case. It is a trilogy of episodes that don't have any books connected to them! All of the episodes are connected through this small model town known as "Karlsville". Each episode stars a different protagonist, but they all somehow get stuck in Karlsville and have to find a way to escape the clutches of Karl himself.

But maybe really it’s probably a color for clothes when rewatching this to double check it looks like everyone has a main color of clothing and a secondary close enough color

The Harley Quinn of Goosebumps. Why I say this is because both characters did not originate in a book, but in the tv show. Harley Quinn's overall debut was in Batman the animated series.

I remember how it fucked with me that Nicki also turned on Jessica, she was truly all alone in the town, and if her brother diddnt pick up the phone, the implication of the butcher, and “hungry” nature of the townsfolk, Jessica would have been eaten

Would love to see a weekly series based on Karlsville as the key concept. New people visiting every week to various levels of Karl shenanigans and lesson learning. The Karl role could become something truly iconic.

11:38 Something you forgot to mention was that when Jessica tried to blame it on Carl. The townspeople said " Carl loves bacon" and they call out for him. Remember this is after Jessica turned into a pig.

I remember watching this on TV back in the day and having lived in Toronto my whole life, I was delighted to find that Karlsville was actually the Distillery District.
I was in the show, as a band member. I remember after it was turned into a hip area of town it was always trippy to go there in my 20's. When it was filmed it was pretty run down.
Episode suggestion: looking back on it as an adult, it was super cheesy. But Cry of the Cat genuinely gave me nightmares as a kid. Especially the half human half cat hybrid reveal.
That one terrified me too, especially the scene where the zombie cat breaks out of it's grave and invades the film set, both designs of the cat and the hybrid looked like something from an R-Rated movie
I doubt Karl would have had any means to terrorize anyone now that Karlsville is destroyed. It's where he had power. He controlled to populace, the magic it had, and more. He's outside of it and the town is gone. He's now just a megalomaniac without a home. Though..... the plot would make a decent a movie on its own.

I grew up watching goosebumps, watched every episode multiple times. Ive never heard of or seen these chillology episodes...
I would love to see you talk about The Girl Who Cried Monster!! Even as an ADULT, that episode is so tense and horrifies me

The pig mask prosthetic is better than most costumes in horror movies to this day

Squeal of Fortune was easily the scariest for me. Not only did it start the Chillogy series off with a bang but it delivered. The pig costume was creepy, and if you think about it, there were themes of manipulation and greediness which can be scary too.
Also here's a little something. Out of all the dummy episodes, the second one has to be the best for me-the one with the sisters and frickin Dennis The Menace voiced by Goofy. I just recently watched it and it actually scared me ngl. It made other episodes look babyish and made the other version of Slappys look goofy. I'm talking about the Slappy's from the movies with Jack Black and Dylan Minnette and the other tv series with Justin Long.
the way i can vividly remember when and where i was when I watched Jessica's episode of the goosebumps chillogy - i was definitely one of the kids traumatized by the pig transformation. but also the lemonade scene / jessica getting caught and chased was nightmare fuel
I always love the episodes where they stray from the classic books, like Strained Peas, and Teacher’s Pet. Though I wish they were OG classics.
I’m pretty sure chilliogy are the only original episodes, the ones you don’t recognize as actual books all come from the goosebumps spin-off book series called “tales to give you goosebumps “ and “triple header” which all contained short stories , they’re pretty rare so not well recognized

I had Chillogy on DVD when I was a kid and would watch it when I was supposed to be asleep, lmao. It’s one of the rare Goosebumps installations that still holds up to me as an adult despite the goofy moments; for some reason, I just really love horror involving crazy reality-warpers who can do whatever they want to mess with people.

I remember in 2016, I was younger, it was a warm day, I just had icecream, and I went inside to watch goosebumps. Then I saw squeal of fortune. I am still traumatized to this day. Also I am scared rn as I have a realistic slappy doll in my basement so…..

I never knew they did original episodes. Though I only really watched the VHS tapes I had back in the day (I had Stay Out Of The Basement, A Night In Terror Tower, The Werwolf of Fever Swamp, Welcome to Dead House (though the VHS was messed up, so I couldn’t watch it), and the one that I feel is definitely underrated, The Haunted Mask 2). I like both of the Haunted mask episodes and like how they follow each other well and have the same characters. I also recall the guy in the mask asking for water always unnerved me…it was such a uhhh moment.

These were the episodes that first got me interested in the people behind the stories. Daniel Kash was so good that I became interested in him as an actor, which has led to a better appreciation for the media I consume as a whole.
Wait the eps were made for the show directly? AND they're some of the best episodes? THAT'S AWESOME.

I remember binging several Goosebumps episode when I jacked up my leg. It made me feel a lot happier. Carl is such a fun antagonist.
These episodes were some of my first introductions to liminal spaces and abstract horror. Still gives me feelings of dread all these years later.

To help on the whole "they didnt have enough books to make episodes on thing" (I think that was a joke could be wrong) but it was that they didn't want to adapt all the books but mainly ones that they thought would make good tv shows
Yeah It was just easier to say “they didn’t have any books” in my brain , but a lot of it had to do with budget and Stine liked writing about monsters that would be hard to adapt
@kingnusmi yeah and I'm pretty sure it would be hard to adapt the more bizarre books (that's saying in terms of goosebumps) like Why I'm Afraid Of Bees or Chicken Chicken

This episode freaked me the hell out as a kid. I remember seeing this for the first time when I was in 5th Grade and this DVD was at my local library because it was October. So I watched them and I never forgot Karl.
The Karl's Lemonade jingle lives in my head rent free.
my brother's and I were OBSESSED with goosebumps books. we had a massive collection that ended up getting lost in storage. my brother has kept so many things from our childhood, im super disappointed he wasn't able to keep those books. I remember renting these shows from the video store and the chillogy was easily my favorite. had no idea they weren't based on any books 😂

The two player throwing back and forth inching closer is called a pickle. Hence the phrase being in a pickle

Goosebumps is the best example of how to make kids horror. The reason its so good is because even adults can watch it and not cringe.

As someone who owns a model town, I can confirm I too get sucked into it when I get junk mail.
What scared me the most about this episode when I was a kid, wasn't the pig costume but the scene when the kids were about to break the board BUT that one kid was in it. I remember turning the TV off after that cause the thought of him staying in there forever scared me. I didn't finish the episode till a year or two later.
Perfect School part 1 and 2 were both terrifying as a kid
