- TODAY we are taking a look at the VERY popular episode “The Tale of the Dead Man’s Float” from “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”! Dead Man’s Float is known as one of the SCARIEST episodes of the whole series and possibly in all of children’s horror! It’s so scary that even the show creator said he thinks it’s one of the scariest. After a school tore down a cemetery to build a pool an angry spirit now hides in the waters and takes whoever disturbs his eternal sleep. It’s up to our main character Zeke and Clorice to find a way to stop the spirit from harming any more people. Will they lay the spirit to rest for good? Will the spirit take them with him into the afterlife? WATCH TO FIND OUT!!

They did Stig dirty here
This story alone deserved his spot
Very dirty it literally pissed me off 🤣
@@kingnusmi OH MY GOSH! Thanks for the pin!
@@kingnusmi I recently came across your channel and I gotta say, it’s quickly become one of my favorites. You deserve at LEAST a million subs
@@lucygarrett9785 aww thank you so much man! Idk about a million subs but I’m glad you think so!
Sorry to shove my spoon in but I think you deserve And make it to 1,000,000 subs
Fun fact: The First kid who drowned in the pool is Jay Baruchel a big Canadian actor who voiced Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon.
He did another episode. I can't remember which one though
Oh my gosh that’s so cool!
❤ How to train your dragon
Fun fact. Canadians aren't real people.
I really thought you meant like he was the first kid to drown irl and I was so confused😭

How did I go from forgetting about all of these shows, to binge watching your whole channel in the span of 2 days
I did too dawg, currently my new fav youtuber
It’s the nostalgia man!
In my opinion, The creature looks like if Edgar Allan Poe’s “the masque of red death” entered the R.L Stine multiverse 🤔🤔
Definitely the most memorable episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark for me. Also, you'd be surprised how many schools were built on top of cemeteries or battle grounds.
That creature looks like an actual corpse. The worst car wreck ive witnessed did not make a corpse that terrifying.
Sometimes I wish I was a melted flesh monster that could just swim around all day
Don’t we all just wanna be a floating ball of flesh
@@kingnusmi in a way, we kinda are

Mood, bro.
I mean when you think about it the human body is just a mech suit for our brains
Actually a lot of ghosts are supposed to come with odors. Flowers and other pleasant scents for benign spirits and sulfur (brimstone) for negative ones.
Oh cool! I didn’t know that
But you can't trust spirits to be honest, so the smell of roses could also be a bad spirit!
@@kingnusmi There are also stories of people smelling the perfume or the cologne of dead love ones then experiencing something paranormal.
@@folkloreofbeingto an extent, but that view depends largely on what spiritual tradition has the most influence on your perspective. I think most spirits are either indifferent toward us, or actively wanna interact without any ill will. Definitely are some who are malicious, but far more who aren't, and even some who may seem malicious without truly being so (like many trickster gods and spirits, for instance).
not to mention demons and sulfur-spell.
Speechless after seeing that intro
If ghosts somehow get to choose where they haunt, a pool might be a fun choice. Id pick a movie theater
I actually worked at a movie theater that had a couple of ghosts/creepy things that happened.
@@DarkFr3ak101 that was my ghost
@@darkninjafirefox and Nosferatu walking out of the theater screen was you too because that happened to me at my work
@@DarkFr3ak101I heard he was flickering the lights at a fast food place
Movie theater? I always figured an amusement park would be great to mess with people. Like Disney World or something. But a movie theater could be good too.
Cool to see you cover another "Are you Afraid of the Dark?" episode here.
The design for the monster is really terrifying and the story is really great here.
Another fantastic pool themed episode/story here.
Fantastic job covering this one. Keep up the great work and take care!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who remembers this episode. I’ve heard people say they have an irrational fear of sharks in pools. I have a very rational fear of this monster.
Atleast Zeke didn’t find out he was secretly a Shark when underwater 😅
That would’ve been CRAZY
This is an iconic episode of AYAOTD no doubt. And I absolutely love your videos Kingnusmi they're always funny and enjoyable to watch, keep up the good work.
It's def one of the best episodes! Thank you so much my guy! I really really appreciate it!
@@kingnusmi You’re always welcome. It’s one of my favorites of the series and the design of the monster is so cool and creepy
That abbreviation confused me so much for a minute 🤣
It’s insane how much I appreciate this channel and King himself. I lost my service dog last week and my Tourette’s has been uncontrollable ever since but these videos are so engaging that I noticed my tics calm down when watching your videos. Thank you so much❤️🤴🏻
I’m so sorry to hear about your service dog. It makes me incredibly happy to know that my videos help you out! I hope they continue to help! Thank so much for the kind words! You’re amazing!
When I tell you that this episode has traumatized me as a kid. The design of the monster had me crying and scared for life but now that I look at it older it still looks horrifying
I vividly remember this episode as a kid. I think I was younger than 10 at least. I was watching Nickelodeon as I usually do. I didn't notice it switched to Nick at Nite. This episode came on and I didn't understand at all. I am not joking when I say this had me terrified of pools for over a decade. It didn't help that I had a pool at my old house. It was only like several years ago that I finally got over it. For the record I'm 30 now and was about 7 when I first saw this on tv.
I recently saw a trailor for a movie last year and...well it reminded me of this episode. It's called Night Swim and entails just what you'd think it does. It's a scary pool movie and I thought it copied this episode.
@@ZombifiedBuizel I know the episode is old now but brother who’s 21 decides to show this to me for no reason when I was 8
I only ever saw this episode once as a kid, but this, along with The Tale of Laughing in the Dark, and The Tale of the Ghastly Grinner REALLY fucked me up as a kid. Dead Man's Float leaving probably the deepest scar. Those episodes alone made me HATE this show due to the sheer fear I felt. It wasn't until I was a little older that I gave it another shot and found I actually enjoyed the show.
I’m in the guard room and am now watching- as for the first clip- you don’t know fear until you’re scanning and a kid is just doing the “deadman’s float” (front float for those who don’t know) for fun. Absolutely terrifying
Great episode. October 7th - 1995. Lost my dad that day SNICK was part of the moment
Just came
Across your channel and its really fun to watch nostolgic videos of horror
Keep it it
Lmao thanks bro!
But you also came...right?
RIGHT?!
Goon sesh?
the library and adjacent park in my hometown were built ontop of a graveyard. they even moved the graves around and used some of the headstones to make stone benches. it… is very disrespectful, but at least they kept the names… 😅
so you can sit on a bunch of peoples headstones… 🙃
Bro you’re definitely cursed
I would never stoop so low as to desecrate the dead. I don't care if I'd lose my job for refusing to do it. I have too much respect for the dead to do that to them.
That'd be a good basis for a horror movie. Or perhaps clichè.
Not gonna lie, I'd definitely go chill on the headstone bench as often as possible.
Congrats on 40k!!! 🎉
I didn’t grow up on Are You Afraid Of The Dark, so it’s nice that you are explaining it for me 😊
Thanks! I didn’t grow up watching it either I was a goosebumps kid through and through
@@kingnusmi same!
@@kingnusmi I grew up on Goosebumps too. My grandmother would pick them up at yardsales. I amassed quite a collection of books in my youth.

I still get anxiety when I'm alone in a pool because of this episode
As a Ghost Spirit trapped in a Zombie Corpse I gotta say I feel very offended by your lack of faith in us
YOU DONT EXIST
This video gave me an irrational fear of tarps as a kid. I'd like to see you cover the AYAOTD Silver Sight 3-parter, too.
This is one of the scariest & one of the most memorable episodes from my childhood! I love it!
The corpse is a clear 10/10 design & horrorific being especially as a kid's show monster. AYAtD did such a phenomenal job with this! I still remember when it first premiered on TV as a kid. Legends of the Hidden Temple main character, Omak, was something I had fear of due to uncanny a talking stone head was to my kid mind THEN this fuckin episode comes on directly after THENNNNN my father left a realistic toy snake in the hallway for me to see once I got off the couch. All of this type of stuff made me a huge fan of horror lmao
So that's what happens when you stay in the pool too long. Dude got hella pruny
I seriously love the design for the monster because it looks amazing!
I posit that it is still possibly to be a zombie and a liquid. A zombie is a reanimated corpse, but nothing says that corpse can't have been dissolved or melted. Therefore: It is a zombie, made of liquified dead flesh that is capable of melting and pulling itself back together.
The corpse's ability to shapeshift into a liquid may have been the result of adapting to its environment. When its grave was flooded, its spirit bonded with the water allowing its flesh to transmogrify into a water-hybrid. My theories are operation on Ghostbusters based science.
Barely caught any episodes as a kid (I think there's one about a boy who gets a bunch of kids together in his house to find the town's werewolf?), but seeing reviews like this makes me wish I had seen it more often. Corpse design is top notch and the episode overall is stellar (aside from the Midnight Society gatekeeping Stig).
I thought this episode was a fever dream I had, I never knew what it came from and kept dreaming about it.. You should react to that one goosebumps episode that the mc wears a weird mask but it’s actually stuck to her face. Or the one where it’s a family game show with monsters in a spooky amusement park (I think) Love your channel
I loved this episode, it was insanely creepy and scary. I was disappointed that the boy telling the story didn't get in right away, because this was an amazing story. It is definitely in my top ten. If you want to do a fun episode my choices would be the bookish babysitter or jake and the leprechaun. keep up the good work.
Hey kingnusmi I love your videos and I cant wait to see this one! I remember an episode of are you afraid of the dark that I think you could cover in an upcoming video, it is the tale of the carved stone. Im sure you have been recommended this episode before but I would love to see this covered in a video. Love the channel!
Hey man! Thank you so much! Surprisingly it hasn’t been recommended so I’ll put it on the list and check it out for you!
At least Stig got to go on to meet Hammond, May, and Clarkson. They didn't hassle him about being grungy.
Absolutely love the channel!
Have you seen the Goosebumps episode The Headless Ghost? Absolutely scared the crap out of me when I was younger.
Also- you should review the Tales from the Darkside show. It was a George Romero project, and has some truly bonkers episodes.
This is hands down my favorite episode it’s perfect for Kingnusmi to cover thank you!!
Not only is this story scary af but the story also is pretty well written. I can see why it’s a fan favorite.
Also justice for Stig. Bro gave us one of the best stories and he didn’t get in because he was weird. Bullshit.
Hey Kingnusmi, I really love your content, I would suggest A Night in Terror Tower from Goosebumps and the Tale of the Thirteenth Floor from Are You Afraid of the Dark.
"You can't be a zombie AND a ghost!"
Demon Zombie Ghost Pirate LeChuck: Am I joke to you?
He is a zombie that died and became a ghost
This was definitely one of the scariest episodes. I'm so glad you decided to cover it. Whether I get to vote on what video comes next or not I always get excited to see you upload!
The janitor looked like Pedro Pascal to me at first and I got excited until I realized-especially when he didn’t comment on it😭
God 90s kids shows are so much better than ANYTHING they have now so glad i grew up then and not now
The 90s did have a few bangers ngl
I am just gionna say I’ve been watching your videos for a couple months and tbh your prolly ny favorite TH-camr bc every time you post I get happy but yk I’m only 13 so I can’t get your patreon
i remember you talking about this episode in the past but the minute i saw you post about it i had to watch it first and im honestly so glad i did this may be one of my favorites the ghosts design looks so good for one of these 90"s kids horror shows like this is next to the Horrorland horrors for how good it looks also for the whole ghosts not smelling thing idk if anyone said it yet but sometimes ghosts can have one and its usually sulfur and when they were describing smells Charlie said it smelled like rotten eggs which is what sulfur smells like so using paranormal logic him being a smelly ghost makes sense
King always giving us our Goosebumps ,Haunting Hour & AYAOTD fix 😩💪🗣
Considering the pool rescue pole went through him, he is definitely not a zombie. Zombies are solid objects.
Hey King, Love your videos, watched them all and can't wait for more!
Have you considered reviewing the Goosebumps episode "the headless ghost"? It's such a weird episode, especialy when it comes to the fate of the ghost.
Poltergeists, what this creature actually seems to be, can make terrible smells when they show up.
the sinister ghost of the pool reminds me of the scary spectre of Scots folklore the Nucklavee a skeletal centure that drowns people.
Half corpse, half horse, all terror. Ironically, it cannot cross fresh water
This and "Return the Slab" mummy from Courage the Cowardly Dog are top nightmare fuel
AYAOTD was definitely Inspiration for The Midnight club, it has a chronological story but each episode also has an unrelated scary story, you should cover it!!!
Honestly you should do one of my favorite Goosebumps episodes, Welcome to Horrorland. My favorite one and pretty scary to me at least.
Yoooo this episode is iconic, the pool monster was genuinely scary af as a kid
Hello, I love your videos so I was going to tell you could you make a Scooby-Doo episode and the tales of the Crip episode?
Great video! Love your content! Question: where did you get the name KingNusmi?
I go to PT weekly. It's completely hydrotherapy, meaning it's 100% in a pool. We were talking about scary movies and tv shows, and I mentioned this show and episode specifically. The looks on their faces as I described the episode was priceless.
An evil zombie ghost? So the creature is basically a Victim from SH4. They look like zombies, but they can float, crawl through walls and have an aura that hurts you.
scared the heck out of me! the frickin opening credits scared me lol
I love how they found a loophole to show a bloody corpse. "You see, Mr. Censor, it is not blood, it is red water, so it is ok to put it in a children's show."
So glad you covered this. This ep scared me as a kid.
I recently found you but i love your videos so much keep up the good work!!!
Love that they literally throw coffee mate to make the fire do that.
Is that true??
@@karabartley yeah, it’s true. Coffee mate is arguably toxic chemicals though lol
Honestly every episode of Are YouAfraid of the Dark? slaps
Even if the episode has terrible acting, it’s still enjoyable to laugh at how campy it is
Lol man you are my favorite TH-camr you I always listen to you while I do cad 😊 thanks
To answer your question, the elementary and middle schools I went to were right next to a cemetery. Like literally look out the window and it is right next door. Though the schools were in a village, so there wasn't much room elsewhere.
Could you talk about Gruesome Stories for Gory Kids, it’s like all the other stuff you cover of short horror stories with rude kids and then the kids get brutally tortured for an episode, but it’s animated
I lovee this channel sm,, Also the fact some scary kid shows went from "Oh, yeah, the unknown can be scary" to "CORPSES."--
A ghost that's inhabiting water that looks like a corps and ghost reflecting there dead body is a concept that dates back to at least the meadevil era maybe further depending on how you look at it
i was so scared of this show as a kid but it was remarkably creative and the costume design was so fun
Besides it being a scary episode, what I also like is that the three main characters get a character arc. Zeke over comes his fear of water when he jumps in to distract the monster from Clarice. Clarice has trouble with chemistry but she was listening to Zeke at the beginning and came up with the idea to defeat the monster. Charlie fails to save a kid at the beginning but is able to save two (one twice) and get closure to his girlfriend's brother's death.
This episode was responsible for making me terrified of pools (and shower drains) for months.
I'm suprised you haven't looked into grizzly tales for gruesome kids. that shit messed me up as a child! there is a surprising amount of skin stealing for a kids show! and a fucktonne of implied murder, also a pg. think our parents just want to mess us British kids up 😂

Hey king this episode was really creepy and scary back in the day.
Time for the scooby doo content! Or anything old school spooky bro:) scary godmother?:)
I did not expect this starting with a skit like that lol but very fitting
You should do an episode of Eerie Indiana. The guest stars alone make it well worth a watch.
Seeing Aimee Castle (Greta) as anything other than Lori Baxter from big wolf on campus, another super campy show from the late 90s early 2000s is wild.
With this one done you got to do the next most horrifying monster design from 90's children's show. The gum monster from Ghostwriter.
Awesome vid Kingnusmi also you should get a video saying like “Title card” maybe run a poll
The same time that this show was airing, they had those early "spooky ghost story" shows on SciFi (yes, it used to be the "SciFi" channel). For a long time I confused an episode of one of them with Are You Afraid of the Dark? and wondered why they put a scene with a decayed dog head monster in a children's show. (They didn't, it was some garbage on SciFi late at night.) It was a lot like the thing in the clip here, but a dog head in a wedding veil, on the floor, with fog. 🤔 Probably wouldn't even get by execs on TV, today.
Cuddling up on a raft sounds like a really good time. All it took was almost dying and lifelong trauma.
I wonder if the corpse was supposed to look like underwater plants, and that was how they convinced S&P that it wasn’t dead flesh or something.
the opening is just wild bro😭
I miss a couple videos and you take our right to vote, I’m starting to regret missing those videos
This episode had me pretty traumatized that first time I watched it. I remember whenever I took a bath for like, the next two weeks, I'd be making sure I didn't smell anything weird , ready to jump out like something in the drain was going to get me🤦^_^0 (I was still at that age where I still had a weird imagination, like I never ate Gushers because of the commercials making the kids' heads turn into fruit 😆)
Years later when I developed common sense I rewatched it and...yeah, the monster is downright horrifying still! But I knew it was just a dude in a drowned zombie costume and not something that can actually happen.
The monster sounds like it would be more of a ghoul because they are described as zombie like spirits with a foul smell
I've always called monsters somewhere between a Ghost and Zombie a Ghoul. A Ghoul might have an actual definition but for me that's what it's always been.
yayaya!!! so happy you posted! loved the vid!
