Belt Loops Or Side Adjusters? What's Better For The Fit Man?

- Have you seen these pants with contraptions on the side that take the place of belts? Are belts useful anymore or is this the new way of tighten up the waist? This video I look at both and see what place they have in the Fit Man's wardrobe.

I just picked up a tailored pants with side adjusters.. it's my first side adjusters pants. It's beautiful and great to pair with white shirts. It goes well with plain Polo Tshirts for weekends.

Great video- just discovered your channel. I have been buying suit and dress pants without belt loops (custom and RTW) for years. Cleaner look, with or without braces.
I love trousers with side adjusters but I just couldn't find it anywhere. So I had it tailored.

Started putting these on slacks I make for my son. He hates belts so these work perfectly.
I love the idea of side adjusters, although I don't own any pants with them. The problem (at least up here in Canada) is that it's almost impossible to find pants OTR with them, unless we're talking about tuxedos. Literally everything else is belt loops, which means either going custom or going super high-end. Would love to be able to find some OTR pants with side adjusters because I love the way they look! Very clean!
Spier and Mackay is based out of Canada and I got those pants from them, OTR. Not sure if they have a pop up shop up there you can walk into, worth a shot tho
You can always buy longer pants and have a tailor use the material to make them for you. Make sure you have at least an extra 2 inches longer than your usual length (the more the better, to be honest) and buy the adjusters from a fabric store.
I'd bring the pants with you to the fabric store to so you can purchase the right size adjuster (note the size of the adjuster in the video in comparison to the size of the waistband).
@@aaronleiz that's an excellent point. I'll assume it takes a very skilled tailor to make the necessary adjustments
@@FitManStyle Yes, I agree. Unfortunately, I don't live in Canada so I can't recommend a tailor out there, as I live in NYC

I'm only 40 seconds into the video where I paused it. Right off....I'm a HUGE fan of side adjusters....especially for bodybuilders. Some famous photos of bodybuilders from the 60's and 70's wearing slacks with side adjusters: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Franco Columbo, and Sergio Olivia. Great classic photos so I hope on some level you're not knocking side adjusters completely,...lol. Okay, I'll restart the video. Thanks Ian.

Oh..yeah, there is a photo of Arnold and Sergio as they were traveling in the Rome airport, believe. Hmmm, must have been 1971. Both guys wearing slacks with side adjusters. Man did both guys look phenomenal. And then, there is an iconic photo of Sergio Olivia wearing a pair of tighter tan slacks with side adjusters, and possibly a fedora hat. Damn, that might be one of the best bodybuilding photos of all time. A lot of bodybuilders today don't know how to dress when they're out of the gym. I watched the rest of the vid...lol...GLAD it wasn't a video about knocking side adjusters....lol...cause at first I thought it was going to be. Thanks Ian.
Yes, it's a black and white photo of Sergio in a fedora hat holding a pool stick. I think I've seen other photos from that shoot. You can see he's wearing slacks with side adjusters. I've seen other photos of him in this out fit where he's wearing those slacks in particular.
I always take my dress pants to the tailor and they remove the belt loops and add suspender buttons. I hate matching my belt and shoes
Isn't it crazy how we were taught that the belt and shoes should always match? I agree, the no belt loops looks much cleaner

Being new to side adjusters, I’m wondering how much they can tighten up the pants. If a size 34 fits snugly, could a 36 with side adjusters tighten enough? I’m about to buy quite an expensive suit, so a reply would be appreciated.
From my experience if it’s snug enough the side adjusters won’t do much but what it will do is give a clean aesthetic on your waistline with no belt loops. I prefer it not too snug for the side adjusters to do its job and also to give a little room if I gain weight
