    Those who say that Roy was all about athleticism don't know what they are watching. He obviously had certain physical attributes that shaped his style, like great hand speed and reflexes, but you just don't become a champion without a good set of skills. An athlete who can't fight is useless. Roy obviously knew what he was doing.

      He definitely relied more on his attributes than other fighters. For example Bernard was able to stay at the top a lot longer than Roy, because he was a lot more skilled. If I had to pick Roy or Benard as a coach I would pick Bernard. I’m a huge Roy Jones Jr fan btw.

    If anyone knows boxing Roy lost because of his weight he kept destroying his body going up and down in weight finally caught up with him once he got knocked out once it was over he lost his confidence and it went down hill

    I've been throwing this leaping hook from the southpaw position (leaping right hook) for over 2 decades now. Thank God for speed because no way I'd be able to pull it off. Thanks Roy!!

    • @bigdosser7448
      @bigdosser7448 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a southpaw as well and I find it good for defensive purposes also.Being an advantage on the outside of an Orthodox front foot, if it clips you bring them in with a follow up uppercut or cross if they block it you've changed an angle and got out of the way

    When Roy would throw it, often both his feet would leave the ground and he would glide through the air for a second.
    I don't really think that technique can be "taught", that's just insane athleticism that only Roy was born with

    • @bigdosser7448
      @bigdosser7448 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, if u look at his build as well it helps compensate his power with condensed muscle groups, his posture and stance was not very supinated, therefore made him explosive (shoulders rounded/bicep activation etc.) When bringing the hook in, add that with hand speed, light feet and good timing you get KO power with RJJs lead hooks

    • @jay-xe3kl
      @jay-xe3kl ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bigdosser7448 can you elaborate a bit more on what supinated means?

    • @bigdosser7448
      @bigdosser7448 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jay-xe3kl he was very rounded over in his physique and his style of boxing, shown in how he threw his hooks, condensed, multiple muscle groups used together to generate explosive power. Example: u cannot run fast at full stride straight off the blocks right? Bent knees, tight back, leg drive, hip/glute power recruitment and momentum with the swing of each arm will get you that explosion (eg. combined muscle groups) to get you to top speed, now apply that to rjjs combinations, and ko punches🔥🔥🔥🔥
