Roy wasn’t only a freak athlete, he was a thinking man in the ring. His feints, his ability to identity his opponent’s weaknesses and set traps was a severely underrated part in his game, a genius!
Ppl swear it was all athleticism but that's not all it was. There were plenty of speed guys that never got to the top. When you hear him break it down he's a genius

I didn't know he was special when I was little, I just knew that he was really strong and fun to play with! Roy ALWAYS had few minutes and fee kind words for me. Thank you Roy, from the officer’s kid at the Dog Track who was always so excited to see you. You are just as great of a human being as you are a boxer, your greatest accomplishment.
All time best, IMO. His style of boxing and KO power made his fights, must see events. This man beat a young Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, and a heavy weight. 😮

He hit his enemys from completely unorthodox positions, that i wouldnt advice 'normal' people to shoot from, but HE could. Sometimes with his arm arkwardly held up and then just smashing forward.

My favorite and in my opinion the best boxer to ever fight. He never dodged a fight, and he fought monsters!!!
My all time favorite because of his speed, and willingness to fight in unorthodox and unpredictable ways. I loved how much he love boxing and continued to fight in his older years. But, it was heartbreaking to see some of his losses he went through after claiming the heavyweight belts. He’s definitely a warrior who got to live that warrior’s dream. Nothing, but respect for his achievements in the boxing world.
Shame he didn't retire after the Ruiz fight but gotta respect the man for doing what he loved to do even when he had to know he wasn't as good as he once was. I don't believe we'll see another like him in our lifetimes, maybe in a thousand years.

He looked soo slow and fatigued against Tarver, he should have took a tune up fight his first fight back down in weight just to get his Wind and rhythm back not the best guy in the division at the moment. Lets be honest as well, Roy wasn’t the best technical boxer either, he was just Way more athletic and faster than everyone, but once that speed slows down, once you can’t rely on that pure Athleticism anymore to overshadow your actual Sweet Science of boxing, you saw the Flaws like no other, that’s why I Say Floyd is the Best Pure Boxer ever, because even when he was 40 yrs old he was Such a Great Skilled Boxer he could still beat anyone in his division and any young up and coming fighter like a Canelo Alvarez who was 23 and running through people knocking their heads off lol, an Floyd absolutely Schooled Canelo made him look regular, Roy is still 1 of the best and 1 of my favorite fighters and definitely 1 of the most Exciting Fighters Ever.
Sadly his reflexes went at the age of only 36.

GOAT in every sense of the term- his combination of speed, precision, power, athleticism, and creativity inside the ring quite literally made him the perfect boxer, making champions and other legends look like amateurs by comparison during his domination of this era in the light heavyweight division. Obviously even the greats succumb to age, but I can't help but wonder if he would've retired with an unblemished record had he not went up/down in weight class. Changes like that generally seem to wreak havoc on a fighter's stamina, but he was pushing himself to seek new challenges in the sport, a fact that makes his career that much more incredible. Always a privilege to watch, never a dull moment, one of if not the greatest, my personal favorite.
I been watching boxing all my life I will be 71 in March. The art of boxing is to set traps, and to adjust to your opponent, good speed, Being able to move, and think quick. Roy Jones Jr. Was the best at all of these things. I have never seen no one better. He was the best. All the the Champs we love were great, and I could name them but ya'll know who they are. But Roy was the best. And in his prime no one could take him. I salute you Roy for being the best. Only one can make that claim.

Even with all his wins,talent and title belts he still seems underated. He's truly one of the top fighters of all time,to do what he's done is amazing. Seen him at the dog track in Pensacola one time,we spoke in passing but I figured he was there relaxing and didn't need any attention so I didn't do more than speak to him as we passed each other. My favorite fighter of all time tho,he was a true badass.

He had poor boxing fundamentals. He relied on his speed and reflexes, so he kept his hands down, stuck his chin out, and clowned around. Once he started losing his speed, he was easy to hit because he didn't have good fundamentals to fall back on.

Roy Jones Jr. Wasn't shit highly overated, it's hard to believe he's in the hall of Fame of boxer's, he joked and showboated all the time because he knew his opponents wasn't on his level, he wouldn't have done that against someone on his level, he dominated boxing during a cold time in boxing, he never had any grudge matches with someone on his level, any grudge matches he had was against someone who was a nobody, Hopkins and toney were both old and out of shape and washed out, and sadly Roy ended his boxing career on his back.

RJJ made me a boxing fan as a kid in the 90s. Him, Oscar, and Julio were my boxing trinity as a kid. Roy is the closest we've seen a bigger guy reach cat-like speeds and beautiful footwork. Dude was like the Gary Oldman of boxing- a chameleon (due to transcending wright classes), underappreciated outside the boxing community.

Roy was ahead of his time. I have yet till this day see another fighter with his combination of skill, speed, quickness, and power from any angle. He was so fun to watch. Mike Tyson is my Goat. But Roy was my favorite to watch.
Pre 34 & the weight fluctuations, I never saw anyone better. At middleweight/super middleweight Even all time greats like Tony & Hopkins were totally outclassed.

Roy was one of the best punchers because everyone slept on his footwork.
And people still don't recognize him for it. Like in this video for example. While everyone was watching his hands, his footwork was mesmerizing you like a cobra.

Mayweather’s technical proficiency would punish Roy’s unorthodox stance and inability to properly defend jab pressure against the ropes. Roy punishes openings, while a technician gives none.

It seemed like he could switch up stances, angles, styles all within the same fight. He was truly unpredictable. Plus he had raw athleticism, (as evidenced by also being a good basketball player) so when he dodged away from punches it made it that much more exhilarating to watch. He was fast as hell at side stepping punches, and throwing counters. But my absolute favorite aspect of his fighting was his rapid fire combos. I could watch him unload those speedy combinations all day. In his prime I have him up there with Tyson and Ali. Those 3 are my favorite fighters ever. All praises for RJJ

My favorite boxer ever. He was like Michael Jordan. They were cocky in the ring and on the court, but they could back it up every time!!! Very humble and good people outside of their sport.
I feel blessed to have been there watching in an era of Ali, foreman, and rjj!! Thank you three and the few others for the greatness that will never be again!!

Fastest boxer there ever was. Heavier weight with a minimum weight speed. Also the best 50-0 dude, never avoided any any unbeaten prime challenger and waited till they start declining, just took all that there is and never seen as a ducker. If he hadn't made a mistake going to HW and coming back down, maybe he would arguably be with if not over Ali on the goat list🤤

As a kid growing up in Pensacola watching Roy fight was incredibly exciting. He finally got some respect from that d bag commentator when he beat James Toney. I was screaming and punching the air so hard during that fight I think I actually helped Roy win😂

Me, being 4 years older than Jones Jr. saw his progress from the debacle at the Seoul games of 1988 up through his fall from grace after the second Tarver fight. Jones Jr. always looked "out of this world" versus average to decent competition, and looked "very good" versus highly rated fighters. Although he never KO'd a highly rated fighter that I can think of(Castro, Hopkins, Toney, McCallum, Tarver & Trinidad).
I was lucky to grow up in the era I did and be able to watch almost his entire career unfold. He was soo impressive to watch like MJ in his prime

Roy Jones Jr is and will always be the one of the greatest multi weight class boxing champion greats of all time no one had his power nor ring IQ in his area and few boxers can can even be said to consider to be in the same league as he was un defeated for 17 years who can even get close to him I can only think of a few
Growing up in the UK Roy in his prime was a mythical figure i was in awe watching his fights which i used to have to order VHS cassettes from some dude in a boxing magazine the old days. I think Roy is the best fighter i ever saw.
Roy jones Jr. Accomplishments were insane. He went all the way to heavy weight and won. His speed was insane. He was definitely one of a kind. Years back he knocked out a dude with a body shot!! I'm from Florida so I grew up watching Roy since I was 12. In his time he was the goat!! No one could move like he could. Mad respect

This video brought me closer to my childhood than any other media form out there. Born in the 70s I remember all to well Roy's dominance. If it wasn't Roy in the ring for an awesome fight than it was Tyson. I believe the 90s was some of the best boxing in history.

I almost cried the night Roy lost his first fight. He used to invite kids from my/his hometown to come to his gym and watch him spar. Looking back, that was unbelievably awesome. I don't think I've ever been more personally attached to any sports figure. I couldn't believe he lost, it seemed unreal. Even the best will eventually fall, that's life.

I dunno it lasted quite a while. From the late 80's to the mid 00's. The man wasn't beaten until he was 35 years old. That's pretty good.
Just from the eye test, you can tell he was born for combat sports. Just pure raw talent.
