- A week ago, the window randomly fell inside the door. Turns out the plastic clips eventually snap, making the window unusable.
I managed to fix it, but it wasn'y as easy as it sounds!

If you own a mk4 golf and you haven't had to do this job your very lucky.
I’ve never ever had to do this with the x3 mk4 golfs owned since 2003......yet! I feel your pain bro. However all my vehicles have had the failed lock regulator.
@@seanlyons161 that's probably because the previous owner has replaced them before you 😜. Give it time before the crappy plastic parishes.

This was 2 years ago ... your video is very helpful ... however .. I just did the job by myself ... if you reinstall the motor after the guides, and connect the switch to the controls, you can get the guides in the position and don't have to hold them. Just an FYI on how to ... Thanks for taking the time to share! Cheers!
Or do what I did, I bought a full golf door from a breakers for £10, took the full metal inner panel, threw it in mine, now I have a full spare door/glass/door card/ central locking mechanism
Done 5 of these over 3 different VW’s and it never gets easier 😂. Stopped using wind deflectors now.

This happened on my cupra r, identical inner door cards I highly recommend you get some butyl putty and reseal the inner door car before your foot wells are brimming with water mate, don’t make the same mistake I did it’s not fun haha

I bought a rear door replacement for my 5door 1.8t right colour match bonus!! However it had tinted film on it where as my original door was just plain glass - what a pig of a job it was to fit my old glass and three quarters pane of glass and outer seals in to the new door - chuffed when it was complete - but majorly disappointed with the shut lines and the ripples I made in the lower window seal - keep up the videos 🙂 just got myself a ko3s and a bcm filter for mine slippery slope hahaha!! - although I think my 2001 already has a ko3s yet only 150bhp but it's loosing air and boost occasionally so it's got to be swapped

@8:15, if you'd left the window motor bolted on here or bolted it back on now it'd be easier. It's really not that difficult job, I done it about 3 weeks ago and took about an hour on my own, also if you get wet rear footwell now when it rains it's because you need to run a bead of silicone around the metal door card thing that holds the regulator on as you've broken its seal.

I had my driver side window drop in the snow with no tools with me and away from home, I was driving in the snow without that window up. Couple months later, in the summer, the passenger side dropped. I were able to just use that 2 holes to bring the window up and sit them on the clips which are unbroken, and now, I just won't open them, doesn't wantbtobdo it, but since both of the front broke, I might just do it together, what a fun experience...
Wish it was as simple as that on the Skoda, all I had was the door card and then a metal bar going across the door and you had to angle the regulator with the mechanism out of the door...
Passenger side on my Jetta wont roll down i can hear the clips make a cracking noise, im going to try and tackle it on my own.
you can reset the window auto up function,need to hold the switch up all the way and keep holding for more than 10 second, but better don't do this, because the auto up function made the cable hold too tight all the time, that why the cable and that holder you just replaced broken, may be leave it manual better.
Wait till ypu have to do it on your a4. Thats a whole new level 😂

Spray some silicone lubricant spray along runners,window will slide better.
Next time put the motor back in before you put the glass in to stop the regulator moving, oh and just buy the whole regulator and bolt it on ! Much easier!!

I'm replacing the wire on my golf, I've took a wire off my spare golf which has manual window winders and trying to put them on to an electric window system,
The cog that holds wire on the manual window system is bigger than the cog on electric window system,
Trying to wind the cables back around the cog is an absolute knitemare,
Is there an easy way of doing this
Also that clip the guy broke so the lock doesn't show going up and down, sometimes through vibration and movement the lock button hits the door card every time you lock the car, it instantly unlock again, sometimes 3 or 4 attempts are needed to lock the car other times no point in locking it, and you may also get locked in that door and have to use the passenger's side to get out ..
.that's the lock buttons fault, not letting the actuator coming fully up,
I would also take the weather strip off the door, it gives the glass more room to come out,
If your In a scrap yard taking these parts off a car battery with and two wires and touch the plug terminals on the window motor directly, if the window goes up switch the + and - it should go down, and tests the motor is working
I've replaced 3 of these window regulators on golfs but this is the first time I'm doing the wire change,
also the wire is from a mk4 golf manual window to a golf mk5 plus electric window regulators....
It might not even be possible??
My window driver side fell off the rails luckily it got stuck up. Here we go again😂

Scrap yard is full of them, £10 with speaker. Scrap yard is a god send and cheaper than gumtree/ebay breaker's and a lot will still let you take shit off yourself so your learning on scrap so no big deal if things break.just need to find a friendly scrap yard....most are... because money talks.

Consider yourself lucky you don't own a mk5. The window regulator requires you to take the top and outside of the door off.

I can make a prediction. i had the same problem.... broke the same bracket ..... my little door buttonthingy didn't come all the way up :-s .... eventually you driver side central locks will stop working and you need to replace the lockmechanism/microswitches. it turned out that the buttonthingy was binding and eventually fucked up the central locking.

Somewhat makes me feel like the thermostat that needs doing on my tfsi isn’t that bad, that looks like a fiddly shitty job lol.
I had to replace the clips on my old seat Leon. It must of took me about 5 hours and a lot of swearing to fix it lol.
Bruuuh i have done this job but the regulator doesn't have the same problem from year to year and in find it difficult to undo the bolts and end up drilling them it was a pain in the @@s but after tha point it was very easy if you have basic knowledge

No the lock rod you managed to disconnect does not connect to a spring, it has to be pushed threw a small hole in the lock, sorry 3 years to late.
Autoglass broke mine on my v5 golf replacing the drivers door glass ....arsehole spent hours replacing it all at there cost...lol
Did this on a alfa romeo once, was a bitch aswell because it's a alfa and nothing is thought out by a German, but managed to do it in two hours😎😎

These are poorly made cars. That plastic ring that holds the speaker just went into dissolution. Its so brittle. Now that i have became familiar with this car after some years,i see how bad quality even the cheapest things to fabricate is on it. Have a Volvo 740 from 86, and the most important plastic pieces are much better quality on it after almost 40 years. It scares the shit out of me how better things where made in the older days.
Think i'll just buy a new car.
