We bought an EQE 350 4 weeks ago and still have our Mercedes C 220 - which we actually do not use. The EQE drives very very well. The automated level 2 driving is excellent on highways and main roads. Comfort is excellent. The MBUX 7 navigation/infotainment system is far ahead of the competition. The navigation routing automatically adds charging stops and if it is DC charging at 170 kW it seems as though the car limits the charging time to 15-20 minutes and on longer trip, 500 miles, expect 2 of those … but only in the the winter. It is more than acceptable and probably on par with what you would do on a trip like that anyway. The voice assistant is very good and it learns, as do the car. There is clearly build in AI. You can define multiple driver profiles, which activates through finger touch, and then activates the profile specific settings. The GPS map is clear to read and it is the fastest I’ve ever seen. The menu system is easy to use (but it is even easier to use “Hey Mercedes”) and it all quietly adapt to the driver profiles driving style. At home we have 11 kW AC charging, which is adequate. We have been driving 1200 miles to 1/3 of the cost compared to the C220. Service is only every 2 years at approximately half the cost compared to the model E a/b service. There are almost no wear parts that have to be replaced, except for the battery . With proper care regarding charging/discharging it will last for years, probably 8-10 years. Yes there will be a minor capacity loss over the years, but it is minor for lithium based batteries. The build quality, both structural and interior, is high Mercedes standard.
The biggest caveat is yourself. You have to adapt to and use the technology in the car. It seems simple but there has been a learning curve. Said in another way, if you buy an EV and demands that it is a fossil fuel based car you loose. We didn’t really know what to expect when we bought it but it has been one pleasant experience.
Regarding DC charging - you can’t really blame bad charging station logistics on the car. It’s a commercial/political thing.
Oh, I forgot the the Mercedes Me app - excellent too.
Pricing. Yes the EQE is expensive and so are EV’s in general when we talk cars with a range of 250+ range. But the competition is fierce at the moment with aggressive price cuts in Europe. It will create winners and losers and cheaper EV’s. In Denmark it seems that we have reached the tipping point. 30% of all cars sold in the first six months of 2023 was EV’s. 35% of all cars sold in August was EV’s. In September it was 50%.

I bought a mitsubushi phev renamed shitsabushi,25 on a full charge 12 if heater used,if using heated seats etc instead to boost range rear passengers shivered.Unplugging it each morning and having to wipe and stor cable on a cold wet morning made it worse.Add to that serious rust at 3 years old we were glad to get rid of it.Luscomes of leeds were agressive and totaly unhelpful too.

These cars are still assets in their parts, even after the battery no longer gives decent range. But I do agree that battery replacement should be an integral part of design. Licensed upgrade and replacement should become a new supplementary market like the one businesses like URBAN have championed in customs. Batteries don't currenty have the repairability and hence lack the *possible longevity of an ICE engine but if we're all meant to convert, fixing this will be key

I would love to hear Tish’s review of the car and its concept. And no, I have no connection to the company. (Riversimple Movement.) Just a curious Yank here. Thx!

Dude....who keeps a car for 10 years nowadays anyway? If you are buying a Mercedes at this price point, you're gonna want to upgrade after at worst 5 years. I just bought an 2023 EQE three weeks ago and traded in a 2022 Tesla Model Y. Let me tell you....the EQE is impressive for Mercedes' first offering of an electric E class sedan. But I will says this, in less than 5 years, Im upgrading to whatever the latest and greatest is at that time. Also, people who don't know shit about EV's will always use the argument "well what happens when the battery goes out??" That's like saying, what happens when the engine goes out. There are a LOT less moving parts in n EV and the chances of something going wrong are a lot less. Also Mercedes offers 8 years and 150K miles on the warranty JUST for the battery alone.

    Have wondered about this too...
My sister (who lives in the U.S.) sent me this e-mail. I don’t know who wrote it or when and I realise their infrastructure is different to ours but it did make me ponder …..🤔
    Electric Vehicle Charging Insanity
In order to match the 2,000 cars that a typical filling station can service in a busy 12 hours, an EV charging station would require 600, 50-watt chargers at an estimated cost of $24 million and a supply of 30 megawatts of power from the grid. That is enough to power 20,000 homes. No one likely thinks about the fact that it can take 30 minutes to 8 hours to recharge a vehicle between empty or just topping off. What are the drivers doing during that time?
ICSC-Canada board member New Zealand-based consulting engineer Bryan Leyland describes why installing electric car charging stations in a city is impractical: “If you’ve got cars coming into a petrol station, they would stay for an average of five minutes. If you’ve got cars coming into an electric charging station, they would be at least 30 minutes, possibly an hour, but let’s say its 30 minutes. So that’s six times the surface area to park the cars while they’re being charged. So, multiply every petrol station in a city by six. Where are you going to find the place to put them?”
    Used Car Market
The average used EV will need a new battery before an owner can sell it, pricing them well above used internal combustion cars. The average age of an American car on the road is 12 years. A 12-year-old EV will be on its third battery. A Tesla battery typically costs $10,000 so there will not be many 12-year-old EVs on the road. Good luck trying to sell your used green fairy tale electric car.

    • @JC130676
      @JC130676 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Driving an EV requires a different mindset. Instead of driving on until the battery is nearly empty, you top it up to 80-90% whenever you stop somewhere. Going to a store? Plug in the car when you're there. Going to work? Charge the car while you're in the office. Going on a long trip? You should take a break every 2 hours or so, and when you do, plug in the car. Of course this means you need a wide network of charging locations instead of all the cars going to a central point to charge. And when you're at home you can charge the car overnight. Unlike a car with a combustion engine, you don't go somewhere to fill up your car - you fill up your car whenever you go somewhere and keep it topped up.
Besides this, many EV's can charge from 10 to 80% in around 20 minutes and that number is still improving. In that time you can grab a coffee, get something to eat, go to the restroom, stretch your legs, do some reading, watch car reviews on TH-cam... I drive a hybrid myself but I like it best when it's in EV mode. It just serenely glides along and when I have no need for serenity, the electric motors make it quite punchy. I can certainly see myself switching to EV in the near future, something like the Mercedes EQS perhaps.

Electric cars are good in the summer apart from trying to find a charger when away fro home.
You got more chance in London with charging the further north you go you have to wait to get on a charger before you charge .
If I go up north Leeds or Wales I add an extra 1hr to the journey time for charging .
In winter you can expect HALF THE MILAGE you get in the summer.
Don't tell you that when you buy one so a car that does 300 miles in summer will only do around 150 in cold winter.
Home charging is better I pay 12p per Kwh to charge .
So Electric are good for local but crap for long distance.
And don't forget you can not tow with an electric car.

    EV's
The government therefore taxes the sales of new polluting cars heavily but does not tax EVs at all, making EVs, which are more expensive because of their production costs, a competitive and appealing option.
It will be interesting to see when all the fossil fuel cars have gone, whether the advantage in the EV , is still good because like most things once they got you by the, up goes the price

The car is lovely and desirable. The range is seemingly good. Cars are becoming more and more unaffordable and just a terrible financial choice. Even if a salary sacrifice scheme is offered, it negatively impacts on pensions. Self-employed would probably lease with all services inclusive and tax deductible. Maybe I'm just poor
Why can't a car just be a car? All the tech will go out of date very quickly. For half the price and get a used lotus exige as a weekend car and maybe a used VW Golf/Audi A3/ Seat Leon/ Skoda as a daily?

Co-efficiency isn't really the right term. Drag coefficient is a unitless number (thus the use of the word coefficient, which isn't etymologically related to EV efficiency) Drag coefficient must be low to achieve high vehicle efficiency. Drag coefficient is multiplied by frontal area in square cm or inches or meters to approximate how much wind drag the vehicle experiences. You never prefer a high drag coefficient in transportation or racing, alway low.

    • @Alexander-ig6jm
      @Alexander-ig6jm ปีที่แล้ว +1

Almost correct. Firstly, the drag force is not only the product of the cross sectional area and the drag coefficient (which is actually measuring how efficiently the air flow is guided around the cross sectional area), but also of air density and velocity squared. There is also another factor of 0.5, which is a convention without physical meaning. Secondly, race cars will generally not have particularly low drag coefficients, since these are not independent of the lift coefficient where a high negative number is desired to achieve sufficient down force, i.e. aerodynamics specialists need to trade off achieving high down force and low drag meaning formula 1 cars have high drag coefficients of 0.7 to 1 meaning way higher than the 0.22 of the EQE.

Standardised battery pack design is where the price can be brought down for a standard cell pack replacement. With a life span of approx 8-10 years and the very real threat of the things bursting into flames ( as has been documented many times ) and also if you like the idea of being stuck in a car in the middle of a busy road after suffering a complete electrical failure as happened very recently in the UK ( the incensed owner of the M.G vowed never to drive another E/v and bought a modern diesel vehicle instead ) add to this the chances of finding a recharging point that either works or doesn’t have a queue of E/v’s waiting to use it ,and having to meticulously plan every long distance journey to ensure you arrive on the same day you set off .( I forgot to add the fact virtually every one of these things eminates from China for either manufacturing of supply of components ) so you will be boosting the Chinese economy and promoting the use of child Labour in the extraction of the Minerals utilising open cast mining techniques which in turn leaves massive city sized scars on the land to make the un recyclable batteries ,these heaps of junk are then shipped using giant oil burning container ships negating any eco friendly virtues which will never be repaid via the carbon footprint left in simply getting the things to dealers worldwide ..and then add to the equation the fact it will be plugged into the National grid which uses fossil fuels to create the electricity needed . it’s becoming the greatest confidence trick ever foisted on mankind ..

Slower than Tesla, no one pedal drive. Less range with dual motor. And nearly twice the price. Really nice interior. Same pushy dealers. No supercharger network. Not sure it’s twice as nice as a model 3.

The power from Teslas is overkill, you end up never using that power most of the time.
The EQE DOES have one pedal drive and it is more pleasant to use than the Tesla regen. Less range? Nope. Tesla's figures are NEVER what they advertise. I know...I owned two model 3's and a Model Y. I have the EQE 350+ and I literally charge once a week. With my Y, I was charging at least TWICE a week.
Supercharger network is a moot point if you're like most people who never drive long range and if you charge at home. The most efficient, FASTEST way to charge is when you're not WAITING for it to charge, kinda like when you're sleeping? LOL
I just got my EQE less than a month ago and the build quality, features and comfort exceed anything Tesla is offering right now. And you're talking to a guy that was (and still is) a HUGE Tesla fanboy. But Mercedes has not only surprised me, but IMPRESSED me with this car. So don't knock it until you try it.

I also switched from a tesla model 3 performance. No regrets. The build quality, ride quality and overall experience is just better. I still like Teslas and their charging network is a bonus. But this car - absolutely love it. Getting around 290-300 miles range in winter with eco town driving.

The front is truly horrendous with the big fake swollen plastic grill, can't you just tell the front was designed by sales and marketing because they wanted a big Mercedes badge on the front, it just looks tacky and middle-class, rest of the car looks really smart though. Personally I prefer the Polestar2, better design, not so naff and the new 2024 RWD LR looks a way better car, think I might get one.

Here lies the primary reason why electric cars are not the future: Battery limitations are holding the industry back. Without a national, dependable network of charging stations, electric cars risk remaining a luxury product bought by wealthy suburbanites who can outfit their garages with personal charging stations.

  • @bazzergardner3575

Electric cars are being enforced on us when the country simply does not have the ability to make them effective.
Firstly consider this, we are currently being told to save electricity and that power cuts may happen. If everyone had an electric car bear in mind that not everyone lives in properties which can provide individual charging points. Flat dwellers and those living in terraced properties can't, many people have jobs which necessitate living in hotels Mon to Fri, can hotels provide charging points in every parking place?
To be effective charging points will be needed every 20 yards on every road in the country. Can you imagine the effects of power surges each evening to accommodate the demand?
Electric cars like communism is a great idea in theory but needs considerably more work before they could be considered practical
How about two, three even 4 vehicle properties?
Then of course the break down problem and the necessity for a tow truck in most cases.
Find yourself in a lengthy traffic jam and your mileage will reduce significantly
Then of course battery failure and £15000 replacement with no ability to dispose of the old one.
The fact that despite campaigners denigrating non Electric cars and praising Electric cars the fact remains that a considerable amount of fossil fuel needs to be spent in creating and maintaining an electric car.
