Volkswagen ID. Buzz 3-row is Buzz We Get in the US

  • Here’s your first look at the 3-row Volkswagen ID. Buzz EV. While Europe has been motoring around in a shorter 2-row version, the North American market (that means you Canada, but not you Mexico) will get the longer version with an extra row of seating, more power. a larger battery pack and a choice of rear or all-wheel drive. When it hits the US market in 2024, it will be sold through VW dealerships, not a web portal like ID. 4. Lots of standard equipment means this is not going to be a budget ride. Tom Voelk travels to Los Angeles, CA to check it out.

    Three Driven Reviews in quick succession (well the Buzz was a look-see, but still...).
    New Tacoma - Love it; want it.
    New Grand Highlander - Love it; want it.
    New VW Electric Buzz Bus - Love it; want it.
    The Tacoma would be great (6 foot bed please) for brush and storm debris trips to the dump and helping the kids and grand kids move furniture into new digs.
    The Grand Highlander would be great (8 seats please) for extended family road trips or just going out for ice cream (to eat while sitting on the curb, not inside on my new Toyota's leather and suede seats).
    The Buzz Bus would be great for attracting hordes of people at any kind of car show - or even in a super market parking lot. Consider it an automotive form of of the old classic "How To Win Friends and Influence People".
    These are exciting automotive times; thank you for these great reviews.

    Similar to Ford's Bronco, VW really nailed the retro vibe with this, oh so "cool"!
    This will be a great, non frumpy option for those who need or want a minivan or a 3 row EV. I think I hear the CA VW dealers phones ringing non-stop! Another reviewer says that the practical seatback lunch tray won't make it to US for safety reasons. I love the nice bright dual lights in the liftgate . Every vehicle with a hatch or lifeback should have those.

    Tom, it looks like the 2nd/3rd row windows are much slimmer inside than outside. That odd cutout sliding window seems to take up the full window height inside but not when viewed outside. True? Does it impeded visibility at all?

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The glass has decent hight. I know what you're talking about but didn't have time to study what the block on the outside is. Literally had 30 minutes with the vehicle and was dodging a dozen other that like me were pressed for time.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Update- I spent a little more time with it this morning. Yes, the window is smaller on the inside than the outside. The glass is about 2 inches lower on the exterior than inside. It's not significant, visibility is still pretty good.

      This is something they are very aware of, and are being very careful to make sure that it doesn't happen that way. I think that's why they're metering different versions out. My guess is that the California camper will come out a year or so after the standard versions.

  • @JohnnyZenith

    The USA version is the same as the European version. We are getting the long wheelbase too, battery, and powertrains, and more. Every American channel I've seen is completely wrong.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, Europe is getting the 3-row. The US does not get the 2-row. Canada gets a 2 row but it's the long version with a 3rd row delete (which is odd because you could just take the third row out yourself very easily). VW believes the 3 row version will be much less popular in Europe. Part of the confusion is that information didn't come out until most of us had the story written. VW positioned as "this is the American version" which is kind of true because there are other changes to the US model that Europe doesn't get.

  • @acchaladka
    @acchaladka ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Tom, can you ask VW why, why, it takes them YEARS to bring even much anticipated models like this to the world's second largest car market? I think I can guess why but it's infuriating and not nice to their customers - kept me from getting a Golf R for example. This would have been perfect for our young kids and family five years ago but now ...the kids will be teenagers by the time this thing arrives, ie no family car camping or big tasks as we start thinking about downsizing and MX-5s rather than family practicalities.

    ...waiting for the general public (not EV acolytes) to demand a Range Extender (or PHEV) version.
    Save $$ and weight with a smaller battery, but add a simple ICE engine (tuned just for charging) to make journeys stress-free.
    Having a decent battery makes climate-controlled camping awesome, but searching for public charging in the wilderness ruins vacations.

    • @DrivenCarReviews

      @@DrivenCarReviews Buzz is otherwise so desirable, I'm hoping they simply raise the load floor enough behind the third row to stuff a 100hp boxer 4 under it.
      35hp is plenty of REx for an i3, so 100hp Range Extender should keep battery SOC fine in this big box.
