    IRL the diff on these cars was really tight for the same reason that we had spool diffs in Trans Am: The less slippage, the less wear on the clutch disks, the less they broke. It had little to do with performance. This having been said, those tight diffs really helped eliminate understeer on acceleration. But you had to treat the gas pedal like there was an eggshell on it. Oh, also - I dated Derek Bell’s niece. Just wanted to mention that.

    Interesting, when I have a little bit of time on my hands I'm gonna try these tips. One of the biggest gripes I've always had with a ton of sims are the Group C and LMP900 cars, I've always loved them for their looks and technical aspects but in the majority of the sims I've always hated them. They always felt just like super fat formula cars that can't graze a single kerb, every time I would try to push even a little I would find myself just fighting with the car and not enjoying my time so I've never even thought of experimenting with setups and just chucked it to my incompetence (which i think still plays a major role ahahah).

      Bad default setups are like 70% of the reason some sim cars are ass out of the box. Very frustrating. Pretty much the main culprit behind the rise of paid setups in iRacing.

    Out of curiosity, I decided to take this concept and put it to work on a different kind of car, an F1 car. So I fired up F1 Challenge (the best F1 sim I had, lovely potato PC) and put the general concept in a car, and after some basic adjustments like adding an actual front sway bar for control out of corners and packers because aero and it drives surprisingly well. Bit scary out of corners still, but surprisingly fast. So with some adjustments, this definitely works on non-Group C cars. Awesome and thanks Austin.

      Kinda what I expected, you can take this "blueprint" and tweak it with small changes here and there.

    1:00 this makes so much sense now... for years I couldn't understand what preload does no matter how much I read about it, and you've elegantly put it into a few words and it finally clicked lmao. thank you

    Honestly the few group C races I did manage to participate in were incredibly fun, these cars generally just feel planted and not booting the accelerator right on corner exit isn't difficult

    Nice video Austin, thanks. On AMS2, another diff change which help drivability is to reduce from 6 to 4 the clutches, so you don't need to lower preload a lot, and then change power and coast to suit.
    I'm sorry but I have something not relevant to ask to you, what did happen with that new Ian Bell's project that you were involved? Haven't heard about it for months now. Thanks again and have a nice day.

      pC2 and AMS2 are pretty close with mods. Thunderflash has a nice Group C extender pack that adds the cars that didn't make it into AMS2, from pC2. I think it's 7 or 8 total.

    Holy crap, I'm amazed just how well this works? Absolute blackmagic for corner exit and putting the power down in something like the Nissan R89 in AMS 2
    I did try this on slightly more modern cars, (1990's GT1) and I found this sort of set up to be a lot less forgiving in a car like that and I'm not sure why? Back end is very loose and snappy. (I assume because a GT1 car or the tires are stiffer?)

    Minimum front bump to avoid bottoming?

    • @AustinOgonoski
      @AustinOgonoski  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Min front bump, max front rebound, soft front springs. Need those in tandem to produce the desired effect. Guy talks about it here on a Camaro forum.
