Your video was my introduction to Meshuggah. I never took the time to listen to their music until I saw how "fun" that guitar track was. A year later, Meshuggah is one of my favorite metal bands.
Just know you've made a man stuck in a cubicle somewhere very, very happy. Excellent playthrough. I'm posting this here because I also agree that 4:17 is just.....
This is such a badass song -- just when you think it's prepping for the finish it's only a tad past halfway through. This album was a major step up on composition for them.
@@isaackmojica8302 quite agree. Dick is the only "schooled" musician within the band. Not that that is a bad thing, but his writing is full of sophistications and different harmony compared to Mårten or Fred.
@@drumkidstu i got the CD a mouth ago and It have 4 pick ups ....super cool!!!...yet for my surprise in The music credits there's none Freds Writting at all!!!...and about Two songs by marten
@@isaackmojica8302 This is correct! Dick and Tomas wrote Clockworks, Monstrocity, By The Ton, The Violent Sleep, Stifled and Nostrum. Mårten wrote Born in Dissonance and Ivory Tower. He also cowrote Our Rage Won't Die and Into Decay with Tomas. Fred hasn't done a lot of writing since Obzen. On Obzen he wrote Combustion, Bleed, Pineal Gland Optics and Dancers. On Koloss he wrote The Demons Name, cowrote I am Colossus with Mårten, and cowrote Do not look down and marrow with Tomas and Mårten. Mårten's writing is most prominent on Koloss. He cowrote the above mentioned songs and cowrote Swarm with Tomas. The Hate that finds you first, Break those bones, Demiurge, and The Last Vigil are all his own songs. Jens actually wrote Behind the Sun.
Great work just learning this at the moment and damn you need some serious stamina in that right hand, no idea how these guys get through a show let alone this song.
Look up yogevs video on the song. He does a really comprehensive overview, it's all 2s and 3s in other words a mixture of triplets and straight playing which is so insane
saber wolfe It's all in the drum work. This group would be completely empty sounding without that drummer. The music is nothing more than guitar palm-muting and chaotic sounding lead parts. I also think the singer is just awful and completely ruins the entire band. His voice is incredibly annoying.
I started learning the song mostly for 4:14 haha.... I very much underestimated how difficult it actually is with the weird hammer-on and picking and palm-muting combo
Josh Seguin Hey man can you send some tabs for the solo because that's a pretty weird and cool solo and is this playable on a normal 8 string I've got it in drop e?
i have to learn how to play this song now, if you have time i would love if you could tab this :) im sure a lot of people would like that. youre awesome man, one of the best covers ive seen :D
I'm into 80s rock and hair metal... but I'm really getting into meshuggah, they're amazing... sometimes I wish I had an 8 string with a low F tuning like this
You don't need an 8-string to play this kind of stuff. Matter of fact, you don't even need a 7-string. All you need is a baritone with a scale of 28" or longer.
I'm envious on how you're able to groove on this song... How does one start to understand Meshuggah songs? I listen to them a lot, its just that another song is another journey. I'm sure there is a pattern of some sort.
Rule of thumb: everything is in 4/4. So if you can find the downbeat, and all the quarter notes that follow, you can bob and groove to them whilst the riff dances around the meter. Since understanding this years ago, ive been able to not focus on where the riff starts over every time and just focus on the 4/4. It’s super fun bc then you hear the riff starting in seemingly random spots of the 4/4 meter. Meshuggah is the perfect definition controlled chaos. Seems like mathrock but the meter is almost always simple and stable. Hope this helps
@@Capt_shred Thanks for sharing your insights. I wish it is that easy to understand. I will try to listen to Meshuggah again like how you do hoping i'll see the light someday, somehow. Mathrock? YES! Like mathrock on steroids they are!
I would personally love to hear you "cover" a 9-string version of the title track. It would be absolutely crushing if it was a fifth lower than written.

I salute you, sir.
4:14 Heaviest riff on the planet starts, holy crap.
except that the heaviest riff in the planet is on the outro of dancers to a discordant system

Oliver's World this is one of the best comments I’ve ever read. Thanks man, stoked to have helped you find the summit of mt metal!!!!
That solo was impressive. I never would have guessed that was how it was played. Big time props
matthew Toranzo thanks dude! Ya it's a goofy one lol
@@Capt_shred I think it's Freds most "scary" solo.. The one on I Am Colossus is pretty "scary' too.. Great job, Josh!

This is such a badass song -- just when you think it's prepping for the finish it's only a tad past halfway through. This album was a major step up on composition for them.
I think the addition of Dick Lovgren the bassist into the composing credits did a lot for their sound.

well done. actually watching these riffs helps one appreciate their complexity.
Check out the drum play throughs. If you appreciate the complexity of the guitar parts, you'll love the drum parts. Insane.
- at what point do you stop adding strings?
- the moment your guitar neck becomes wider than Corey Taylor's neck

Mad respect.
you really did something here with the tone we are getting a certain frequency that sounds like a particular note this is a real cool tone
So sick. Really natural looking
So tight! Tightness is something that's really hard to achieve in meshuggah covers, but you smashed it man!
Drilleth rad! I appreciate that man 🤘🏻

Listened to this song dozens of times, still just can't comprehend the timing and rhythm. Meshuggah is like the final frontier of prog metal.

Yeah the key is scale length. Meshuggah get that tone by playing long scale 8 strings with passive pickups.
GAME OVER
great job man. that varying triplet riff sounds great, just like the original. I just can't get it to sound right, got work on my tremolo picking.
great cover man.. and funny , too XD
