That "I'll take their fucking heads!" Tremolo picked riff from kirisute gomen off the shogun album is what pushed me to buy a 7-string. That whole album is full of great 7 string goodness.
Some how never heard them. Seen this comment yesterday and looked into it, fkin love it. Already learned that little tremolo riff for the 7 string lol Thanks 🤘
@@currentlyvibing9916 that song is the reason I want to get a 7 string. thing is even if I had a 7 string I'm definitely not good enough to play trivium stuff yet

Down from the sky was actually the first riff I learned when I bought my first 7 string. However, I suggest everyone who wants to play a 7 string to first play the guitar as a normal 6 string and ignore the low string entirely. Because the additional string throws you off quite a bit in the beginning and you have to learn how to find your way on the guitar all over again.
The Dark eternal night (Dream Theater) would also fit in there And Nevermore with The Obsidian Conspiracy (that super-fast Main riff) . So sad they are not a Band anymore
A friend of mine who was / is a big Nevermore fan stated to me Jeff Loomis is now dead to him after said friend heard that Loomis now plays in Arch Enemy.
The chorus riff for Pillars of Creation by Keith Merrow. Its awesome. One of those riffs that I can't help but move my head to whilst pulling a stank face lol.
Personal favorite: Korn - Right Now, a riff that is simple but shows off the benefit of the low A string perfectly. Here to Stay is my 2nd favorite Korn riff, so i'm glad you included it
Man I think I have never seen anyone mention Mushroomhead in a video not related to Mushroomhead. They have some great songs. Not all of them, but the last few years before Jeff left (the XX compilation and 13) plus the first Album with Waylon had some real bangers. Lost touch with their music since.
Congrats on the choice of Korn riff! Objectively speaking, this is one of their heaviest, grooviest riffs and I don't know why it gets somehow left behind often.
I am glad you played "Born." In fact, I STILL have that Nevermore CD. I bought it because of going on a road trip. I bought it without ever hearing that album before, but anything Nevermore means I will probably love it. And yes, as soon as I pressed play, that album was my instant favourite.
The Glass Prison and Bridges in the Sky by Dream Theater, Kingdom of Heaven by Epica, Prosthetic by Haken, and The Sixth Extinction by Ayreon have some of my favorite 7-string riffs
@@jde92 Yes! He didn't have the 7 string yet so he used a bass guitar string to drop de low E to an A. After that he always played it live with a 7 string.
Yeah I was about to say it live at Glastonbury, the first thing that pops up when you search Citizen Erased Muse live he uses a seven string. Like this guy above me said ^^.
Love that you included FF on there. My favourite album was Obsolete. Shock, Edgecrusher and Securitron pretty much describe my idea of the FF sound. I'd also recommend any of Jeff Loomis' riffage from Obsidian Conspiracy.
1. "Holographic Universe" by Scar Symmetry 2. "Murderer" by Impending Doom 3. "Chronosil" by Rob Scallon 4. "Forever Unbroken" by Fit For A King 5. "Shock" by Fear Factory 6. "Sentient Glow" by Periphery 7. "Follow the Signs" by Born of Osiris
I can't claim a favorite, but I have been going back through my Jeff Loomis catalog and I must say, the opening riffs of "The Obsidian Conspiracy" are just brutal greatness.
Tooth and claw has got to be the most memorable 7 string riff for me (ik abasi uses 8s but on this song he ignores the low string) and it's soo fun to play
YES I was hoping for something from Shogun! That tremolo riff from "Kirisute Gomen" also comes to mind. And everything you said about "Icarus Lives" is 100% true! P1 gets forgotten but it's pretty revolutionary, being the debut album of a ground-breaking band. I think my personal list would include a John Petrucci riff for sure, though I can't quite choose one right now.
I don’t know what changed but the mix in this video is blowing me away! I haven’t seen a video from you in a sec for some weird reason but I’m so interested in how you are mixing your stuff!!!
I would put the "revolve alone" riff from concealing fate pt. 1 - acceptance by tesseract or a phronesis riff like the mirror image chorus by monuments
Jeff loomis always kills it! “Where The Slime Lives” by Morbid Angel is definitely one of my favorite 7 string riffs. Along with the intro riff to God Of Emptiness - Morbid Angel

Dream Theater definitely has some awesome 7-string riffs, The Glass Prison main riff for example, Bridges in the Sky, The Enemy Inside or maybe like the entirety of Panic Attack
Good call on "Replica". I personally like to play songs in Drop B or songs that are heavily downtuned on a 7-string. Two noteworthy examples off the top of my head are "Tomorrow Belongs To Nobody" by Carcass and "Roots Bloody Roots" by Sepultura. So much easier to either tune your low B string down a step or simply drop down to your low B string instead of totally changing the tuning on your 6-string.

On Shogun, MOST of the songs are 7-string. Insurrection and Like Callisto To A Star In Heaven are both on 6-string standard, and the two bonus tracks The Poison, The Knife, or The Noose and Upon The Shores are both 6-string standard.

For me, Jaws Of Life by John Petrucci will always be my favourite. The whole song smacks all the ass & I think the opening riff might have been the first 7 string riff I ever learned.

Dream Theater's main riff from "Lie" is easily my favorite 7-string riff. Has a very classic metal feel made more gnarly and proggy by the low tuning. Other favorites include Fear Factory's main riff for "Edgecrusher", the entirety of Whitechapel's "Our Endless War", the main riff from Behemoth's "Ov Fire And The Void", all of Revocation's "Alliance And Tyranny", and and the intro riff of Jeff Loomis's "Jato Unit" to name a few.
If we are talking Fear Factory then a great riff is 'The Industrialist' from the album of the same name. I love playing that opening soft riff then going into the classic FF fast passed 0-0-0-0 and 1-1-1-1's
