  • Time Consuming Ep #18:
    Jacob Collier is a phenomenon. He has mastered such high musical abilities at such a young age and his songs demonstrate that thoroughly.
    In this song, I break up two different sections that use two different aspects of polyrhythms.

    Still on top of the "explaination while entertaining" game.

    Yep... “Intense stuff”. Equally intense - and impressive - is the way in which you’ve taken a song of such rhythmic complexity (the very idea of analyzing it made want to tear my hair out and fall into a coma all at the same time), broken it down and explained it in a way that manages to be as clear and accessible as it is thorough. Also, the graphics are an excellent touch, rendering your presentation both entertaining and informative. The degree of preparation and effort required to make a video of this caliber must have been prodigious and, well, time consuming. 😁
    Many thanks and keep them coming! 🎶🔥🔥💯🙏🏿🦁☀️

    Hi I am a new subscriber ! I have been watching your videos everyday .
    Thankyou for making this singer , guitarist pianist, average tap dancer want to buy a drumkit and learn polyrthyms with my whole body . I managed to tap dance 5/ 4 recently after watching your videos and Adam neely and listen to tigran hamasyan for 2 years now non stop . Big radiohead and animals with leaders fan . I stopped song writing so I can delete my 4/4 6/8 musical habits and I want to learn again music in a different light and then write from the heart .
    Youre so helpful, inspiring and great . You also got me interested in metal again . And I want to study Indian music and thihai ( sorry if my spelling is off ) .
    Congratulations on your amazing videos !
    I will definitely check out your music

    You got four crochets, a quaver and a dotted quaver (Sorry im not US). Doesn't that add up to five and a quarter beats? Essentially, five crotchets and a semiquaver from the dotted note? I'm guessing the bass quaver was meant to be a semiquaver.
    I'm so encaptured by the subdivided 7s in the next section that I never noticed this minor detail of 'blurring' 7s into 5s. This blew my mind!
    P.S. If you have a chance, please explain the rhythmic pattern of "The Mirror" by Dream Theater. My inexperienced ears can't decide whether the tempo changed to create a crossrhythm, or the time signature changed to create a polyrhythm... maybe I'm wrong on both accounts.

    • @YogevGabay
      @YogevGabay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yo! good question.
      I guess I forgot to put the 5 to make it a quintuplet!
      But anyway, the 5/4 is the implied one and doesn't REALLY fit.
      But you're right! I should have put the 5 on top!

    • @Rhastae
      @Rhastae 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YogevGabay wait wait wait, so it's actually correct but moulded into a quintuplet??? My brain can't take much more of this...
