They’ve been a band for 35+ years and are STILL producing songs that are just as innovative as Future Breed Machine was in 1995. The Swedish king really ought to Knight them at this point.
As a drummer this song is just so fun to count the 46 beat pattern to considering it doesn’t evenly divide the 16th notes the entire song. Its like a weird test to see if you get thrown off of the pattern at all
Would love to see you make a more "meta" video about how you think Meshuggah is able to remember their songs. Is it a "feel" thing, or all math and counting, or something else?
They transcribe their music in the 4th dimension, so for them, the whole song is happening all at once, so they only have to remember one second. Yes, I am super baked right now.
its easily just feel, i learned 90% of meshuggah's catalogue, i listen to them a lot, (48k minutes last year), and honestly its just like remembering any other song. I dont even think about whats gonna come next I just know. And surely these guys who meticulously construct these sonic behemoths tirelessly pratice to perfect them. So yeah, Im pretty sure its just feel after the 100th play. I used to struggle counting the 77535 (part after 2:30) in Bleed, but after a year of playing it, i dont have to count in my head at all.
I remember watching one of your videos about Immutable 2 years ago and we both agreed in the comments that we weren't moved so much by this song, that it was among the weak ones. Two years later I'm happy as hell that they've added it to the set as it's now one of my favorites and you're doing a video about it. What a great tune to take 2 years to grow like that.
dude, i'm reading your comment and i'm like "whatthefuck you mean 2 years to grow???" and then i checked that it came out april 1st 2022...... it's been over 2 years already... dissociation and maladaptive daydreaming wins again. sigh
my favorite thing about this song besides how the rhythm interacts with the form of the song is the guitar solo. Fred really turned into a snake for that one
I am watching this video on a bus trip between izmir and kusadasi (home) and I am amazed as always, amazed at both the effort Meshuggah have put into their music, and the effort that you put in bringing all the details to us. ❤❤
Woohoo! As I said somewhere else, since they've started playing this live I hope they consider playing Phantoms. (Also I'm watching this a few hours before I move house halfway across my country. 🥴 )
Watching the sun set in a taxi in Japan, whilst enjoying your ammmmmmazing video. I didn’t think it was possible but these videos make me appreciate Meshuggah even more :)
Watching before bed here in Canada. Love creators like you and Metal Music Theory that give interesting breakdowns of the music we all love, and explain *why* it's so much more awesome than just how good it sounds.
Hi, watching your amazing work while eating and then again in my home studio, sweating anew... Still happy to follow you for years now, even if you're busy-busy, I''ll be patient for your next video. Many thanks for all
You’re a goat bro lmfao I knew this was a constant pattern but I could never figure out wtf it was. Honestly I think this one’s just as if not more complex than phantoms
9:50 In the back of an ambulance, after a long night shift. Gogo MDA! More videos! Mayshuggah or anything else! Keep up the amazing work, kapara on you 👑
I'm on a train station waiting for a train that'd basically take me from one concert to a different one. By the way, since Mayshuggah is ending, I humbly request a video about Red by Leprous. I was never able to figure out the pattern. It's an insane song.
Watching from a hotel room in Toronto! My wife is sleeping nearby, but I have non-24, so I'm a couple hours out of sync currently. This is wrapping up my night. :)
Watching from Australia - working from home... Thanks for your dedication to these videos, Yogev. Would love to see your analysis of Humiliative - it's such a stanky riff.
My favorite track off the new album and one of my favorites in general, love how the pattern just smashing through each section unchecked gives most of the transitions a lurching, unsteady feel. You'd think it would make things lock in more but it has the opposite effect, probably since we're "properly" feeling the full polymeter instead of the 4/4 half asserting dominance every few bars. Hope this isn't a one-off writing gimmick, they definitely need to explore this approach more in the future.
great to see you are back yogev. have you ever heard "lavina yelb"? it sounds like something you might be interested in, i recommend the song "el con fuego". great stuff
It has been a pleasure watching your videos this month. I'm so happy you are just as obsessed with meshuggah as i am. Currently watching this from a tacobell parking lot on my lunch break from work. And as always, happy May(june)shuggah!!! ❤❤❤
Mayshuggah is so sick that it's taking over June as well
“June-s Kidman”
LO, IT HATH BECOME DJUNE
MeshJuneggah
Let’s be real this whole channel is mostly Meshuggah throughout the entire year (and I’m totally ok with that)
Majnune 😂
They’ve been a band for 35+ years and are STILL producing songs that are just as innovative as Future Breed Machine was in 1995.
The Swedish king really ought to Knight them at this point.
I don't know if the King deserves to have the power of Meshuggah at his disposal. Great responsibility and all that.
Meshuggah can offer the Knig of Sweden a spot in the band as an honorary member.
They need to build them a monument from the clockwork video.
Seems like Djune has already started
the Shuggian calendar: Djune, djuly, mesheptember, octuggah, novuggah, deshuggah, djenuary, februggah, marshuggah, meshapril, mayshuggah

Praying for Pineal Gland Optics breakdown for Mayshuggah 2025 🙏
That concept, Along with phantoms, has the same approach. Accents with the cymbals following the 4/3 polymeter
I just noticed that Nolly is one of your patrons. That's so cool.
Oh it's the coolest !
this song is a new whole genre. which is called Quantum Metal
Just consumed lunch in our Philadelphia office while consuming this video
I call my house "My Philadelphia office" 😂
When I learned about this songs complexity, I was convinced they would never play it live. I will never doubt them again.
As a drummer this song is just so fun to count the 46 beat pattern to considering it doesn’t evenly divide the 16th notes the entire song. Its like a weird test to see if you get thrown off of the pattern at all
damn, that ad break got me in the first half, not gonna lie.
The fact that this music was released in 2022 is insane, those guys creative basket never runs out
Much like the pattern, Mayshuggah went over the time signature of 4/4 weeks of May, but continues to be as magnificent as in previous reps!
Big up!
Great excuse for me being late ! Will adopt !

Would love to see you make a more "meta" video about how you think Meshuggah is able to remember their songs. Is it a "feel" thing, or all math and counting, or something else?
