This is one of the most Jacob videos I've ever watched
Chloé Nanian he agrees with you !
Makes me dislike these « modern » clips... it’s a celebration of music. Jazz music and more. Jacob does that
So wholesome. Never thought I'd hear the samba sound like that
Jacob you are gold. You know that don't you?
maybe you forget Mon Revoir (Moon River)
He did himself the edition. I love this!
I don't even have enough musical ability to appreciate this enough
Very few people do...negative harmony, microtonal harmony...i feel like that's some music theory PhD type shit lol..I wouldn't even know where to begin learning
@@4842396 well that's a bit comforting
i dont think that matters man, alot of music gets gatekept when it’s just meant to be enjoyed. even though jacob is incredibly talented doesnt mean you cant appreciate it «enough». as long as you’re enjoying it and having fun! :D
This is why I find his music irritating sometimes. You need a PhD in order to appreciate it. Sometimes it just sounds silly, but makes complete sense for music students.
@@oak1739 Is it his music, or the people who just like complex stuff for the sake of being complex ticking you a bit? I can kinda relate since I'm a fan of jazz and that attracts snobs like flies, but I don't think that sorta thing should discourage people from music.
This is a hell of a video

Yeah. Haha. But it is absolutely true. Our ‘normal’ brain can’t process this without coming with new emotions. This is what happened to the people in Bach’s time. How to process a genius? I don’t know, but I feel a lot of happiness.
As a brazilian, this is the most natural sounding representation of samba made by a foreigner I've ever seen.
C tem q escutar Noite/Lua, dele. Boa parte da Lua é cantada em português (de Portugal, mas fica bonito igual) e é uma musica muito tipo brasileira. É incrivel

That voice coming out of that person throws me for a loop every time. I don’t know why but it just doesn’t match what I am expecting.
I love what Jacob does with this song. It is truly mesmerizing.
It’s not just the crazy chords and crazy talent. It’s how much he LOVES this song and how much he loves his friends. Feels pure.

While musical tastes might differ, I hope everyone can feel the pure unbridled joy coming from Jacob and the rest of the people involved here. This is a song that praises the joy of being alive in a way more genuine and innocent than any song I can think of at the moment. It deserves to be played in church.
Funny thing , this: I was getting big "Hallelujah: A Soulful Celebration" vibes off this. And of all the African Diaspora music represented on that album, I'm not sure which cut this could (near-)twin with, if "twin" it could.
Solid! Brava!
Mmm relax. In church everything is about Glorifying God. Not life. Not man.
It deserves to be put away and forgotten just like church^^.
@@letmebreakitdown2u152 thanks for breaking it down.
@@letmebreakitdown2u152 Hard disagree..... God's fine, there's nothing we can do to glorify God besides celebrating the gift of life and appreciating where it came from- and helping others to do so
I don’t think any AI could ever replace this man’s genius.
You’d be surprised one day if you live long enough
@@coleabrahams9331 I know that AI can be reeeeally powerful, but thinking outside the box like Jacob is difficult if not impossible even for other humans. Maybe it Will emulate him
F**** AI. It'll never reach this kind of heart based deepness because it's just plain and simple a programmed copy-cat of human ingenuity, and this human genius will always be many steps ahead of AI because of its ever evolving SPIRIT.
Ai would dominate this song. With 15 uear old technology
No way! Artificial Intelligence isn't intelligent enough!
The day Jacob get sad, Im afraid of what type of music he is gonna make
Oh damn... I want to hear it. I want to know what it feels like to experience true spiritual death while still alive.
@@AlfredEiji Honestly I don't think he'd have it in him. It's like wanting to know what it would be like if Miles Davis made a 4/4 pop punk track.
i think it in his song "balm"
i doubt he'd be mega sad, but he can get sad, if it is the bad sad, then id personally love to hear it musically, especially with his microtonal power, he can RELALY do some crazy stuff!
In the real early morning has some sad vibes, made me cry the first time i listened to it. resolves in a content way though. Jacobs music always has that hope in it, the love to know it's going to be OK.
I love the fact that EVERY SINGLE MUSICIAN is listed and credited!!
To include his mother
I suspect that Vladimir Nikolov had a great deal of work to do.
Thanks for notifying this .... it's really great that everybody is credited this way!!
George Gershwins face was shown for less than half a second and he got credited lol

Watching Jacob dance in a street with a massive smile and an oversized shirt brings me so much joy.
Showed this to my father, he's an old man, a musician and I never seen him smiled like that again (to something related to music) in these covid times. I honestly wanted to cry while playing this to him. It's one of the precious moments I needed. I just want to thank you and your music. You're the best!
This is lit.
First time I used the word. Was saving it for a special occasion.
Are you everywhere? From Medtner videos to Collier; you have great taste!
Austin Workman true!! I saw him everywhere!
So are you in this case ;)
Hm...
wow there are other people who like medtner and collier? where's your secret clubhouse
You know Jacob is a true musician when he lists every single instrument and performer on the credits. You're a great man, mr Collier.
Did he list the grammy he's banging on at 2:35? :-p
And a bit of a show off, I might add... :-)
Isn't that the norm?
@@samplayssax Likely one of them used a sub at sometime during the process. Professional musicians do that all the time when they have a conflict. And they credit everyone involved.
It's Quite easy when he's more than half the instrumentalists too...
Jacob,
I am a musician, keyboardist, pianist and music producer with visual impairment here in Brazil. I came to your channel on the recommendation of my music teacher, who spoke very well of you.
What spectacular ideas of arrangement, my friend!
What a beautiful thing.
You’re literally a genius.
He managed to make a sensational arrangement at the height of the song.
You are living proof of how it is possible to be creative and listen to songs like this (known) in a different and fun way.
I vibrated a lot at the moment the solo of metals, piano and bass appears. It gave me a pleasant feeling of joy, happiness, ecstasy....
Very good indeed, fantastic!
And those "take 6" voices? Just great.
I’m still looking for decent samples of voices like that for my keyboard.
Who knows, all of a sudden, we’re partnering to create a realistic take 6 sample with expressive joints like vibratos, etc.
Already imagining the next arrangement for the song "Cidade Maravilhosa" (anthem of the city of Rio de Janeiro) in Jazz... :)
All the success in the world for you. I’ve become your fan!
What a MASTERPIECE OF INGENUITY!!! You're truly blessed in sooo many ways and so full of fun and love. Thank you so very much for the fruits of your labours, that you give as presents of joy and empathy to mankind, Jacob.

He goes from D to Ab through the circle of 5ths which is backwards from progressions which move counter clock wise in a falling 5ths motion... He was modulating so it works!

Totally agree with you there!
I agree, although it isn’t free. You see, you have paid in one way. You are no longer in control, not even of yourself. With his mad skills, Jacob Collier has coerced you into allowing the music to take control. Now, we will party all night long. Lol.

Nothing is free, if you don't pay for something, you are the product
"What if pop music was actually jazz except it was actually rap except it was actually just a crowd of 1,000 people singing every note of every imaginable scale at the same time"
Jacob: "you are beginning to understand the first verse of the song. Good. Now let's move on to the pre-choruses. There are twelve. And then the chorus."
Jacob: And then we get to the polyrhythms. We'll worry about the two quarter tone modulatoons later.

here for that term
GENIUSICAL
My mind just can’t comprehend how fucking incredible he is. He arranged, produced, mixed, orchestrated and recorded everything. He’s a literal genius.
Don'y forget the video editing :)
It's an awesome arrangement but a cover song :)
This sounds like shit. No longer a song. But a forced juxtaposition of sounds and unsettling key changes.
@@newagain9964 nah
Mozart was not a genius because he could play instruments at the age of 5, but because of his own original melodies. He wrote 600 original pieces that will never be forgotten. Jacob is an extraordinary musician but he’s not pushing the music scene further, he is recreating songs with advanced arrangements, but I cannot think of one song of his that could be called as a genius melody that will never be forgotten. You don’t have to be a genius to do genius music. I hope He realises that soon and starts doing something original and innovative.
I’m sure that the sheer talent and musical imagination of this man is probably way beyond the understanding of even the most accomplished musicians on earth, yet the thing about Jacob’s music is that the SHEER JOY he brings with it is accessible to EVERYONE - and utterly infectious! And then - as if that were not enough on its own - his incredible skill as a video editor/imagineer adds yet another DAZZLING dimension to his ability to communicate with all our sensibilities. For me, this rare and precious combination of mind-boggling skills makes Jacob’s astonishing arrangement/performance of “All night long” the closest thing to the definition of UNBRIDLED MUSICAL ELATION imaginable… Everyone - just FEEL the joy!
You’re such a genius, Jacob Collier! Love your creativity and voice! Love this arrangement of All Night Long!

“Unique and lively”describes his style exactly. I’m a fan and I’m seventy yrs. young.
but you are aware that he is a musical genius, arent you ?
He's cited as saying that he learned harmony from listening to the group Take Six. And once he became fluent in six-part harmony he started adding a seventh part.
Nobody does that!!!
5:14 , that reference to ''Fascinating rhythm '' along with a picture of George Gershwin though.. GOLD
Only true fans can understand this
I knew that picture came up for a reason.
Giving 80s, 90s vibes. His music gives that vibe: pop, funk rock , and R&b.
I have anxiety to the point that I have panic attacks at times and with everyone being in mandatory lockdowns and such, Chillhop is an oasis.
It's so nice to see a community of awesome people such as yourselves. I hope everyone stays safe and healthy! 👍
Jacob is just 25 and has 4 Grammy's. Insane and absolutely deserved
*earned - not deserved.
@@Rastasandrainbows That's the same thing?
Truly one of the most inspiring musicians alive today. Saw him live twice on his In My Room tour and it was incredible.
@@MrEysox same thing more swag
He might soon have 6...
3:57 His vocal range surprises me every time lol
It's not that he can sing that low and high, but that it still sounds strong as if every register was his primary one
He doesn't have vocal chords, he has a vocal harp haha
Crazy
He's got incredible sense of. Pitch and tuning... He does a master class showing one of his tunes on Logic where he shows U 1/4 tones on the note. C in back to back chords where the 2 C s are.. Quite a few cents different from each other and how it effects back to back chords
Iit blew me. Away... Who thinks of that besides Arabic and Indian composers
I enjoyed your awesome performance at the Hollywood Bowl on my birthday!! Sept. 13th 2023!! Thank you, so much, sir! 🙏🏾
There is no end to the amount of talent this individual has. Aced it again. Thank you ❤❤❤
"That guy is like, obnoxiously good at music." -Adam Neely
🍻
which video did he say that?
@@nuclearsake3887 I could be wrong, but I believe that the quote is in either the video talking about 9/8, or the video talking about Scotch Snaps, OR the video referring to drunk drumming.
All I'm sure of is that Adam was referring to separating bars into seven beats when Jacob Collier's "With The Love In My Heart" was featured.
@@nuclearsake3887 drunk drumming
So happy Adam Neely introduced me to him
Q. How do you know when you have made it in the music business?
A. When Quincey Jones and Steve Vai are in your music video and their only job is holding stuff up for the camera.
OMG!! lol! You're so right!!!

It's a bit like Marcel Marceau being the only person to speak in Mel Brooks "Silent Movie".
Where?!
People making music that doesn't make you want to dance it just makes you want to look.
O.M.G!!! speechless...
This dude mastered social distancing before social distancing.
It's called being "AHEAD" of time.
Vrienda Ganguly what
@@ifusubtomepewdiepiewillgiv1569 musician joke 😂 “time” is of the essence in music if you know what I mean
I didn’t even notice that this split screen format is unusual for the time because it’s so normal now
I guess you never been to Reddit?
200 years from now people will look back at us in envy and wonder what it was like to be alive at the same time as Jacob Collier.
The times suck but he’s alright lol
I'm already envious of myself
Doubt it. There’s a reason he’s only amassed a sort of cult following. Genius? Yes. That listenable to most people? Debatably no.
Something similar like that was going through my mind when I discovered him.
@@Gromper69 I agree that it's rather unlikely. Although he has a _lot_ of time to connect with a much wider audience and his style might change too.
At least there might be a bigger chance for a jacon collier music nerd group to envy us in 200 years.
2023, who still listen this song?
#amazingsong
I don’t think I could get tired of this sound ever!❤
This kid appears to have some musical aptitude.
Agree
Verily.

@@BarryWarne , no he's just happy
The understatement of the century.
I love how even in the complexity of the arrangements , there's still that groove that regular music listeners can dance and enjoy.
Regular music listeners never dance, except when they were a toddler. They also don't enjoy anything (always on the rush or drag or lost in an eternal moment aka. the illusions of youth), because they are lost in nostalgia and memories (which have nothing to do with enjoyment) or romanticism about another time than the past (most live in the past though) - in short, they just imagine to enjoy.

@Nathaniel Atkin seems like a pretty good generalization tho ngl

Well, here another example of how purely genius this guy is.
@Rahul Biswas Dude this song wasn't even written by Jacob XD
Couldn't we just have beautiful music and pass on the demonstration of genius?
@Rahul Biswas I'm interested in what you mean by "context" here.
@Rahul Biswas You're trolling right?
@Rahul Biswas Everything is perfectly structured and makes sense.
If you don't like this kinda music that's fine, but what's with the dumb arguments?
I think even MUSIC could learn a thing or two from this guy
one of the greatest guitarists of all time is in this vid....no hint
Would like to hear Collier do some of Jamiroquai’s music!
My favourite part is when he "forgets" what song he's playing and dives into a Jackson 5 classic. Throwing that in was easy enough, but the "save" when he leads it back to the song he's supposed to be reversing through the circle of fifths is pure joy.
He also throws in a bit of Fascinating Rhythm by Gershwin at 5:13
5:04 That solo is astonishing! WOW!
I'm fairly convinced that Jacob is from another planet.
I would love to see a video of Lionel Richie reacting to this.
From 4:29 to 5:41, is one of the most exciting musical moments I’ve ever heard. I love you so much, Jacob.
Same.
I frickin love that part
jesus fucking christ the solo
pretty sure the licc is at 5:23
That's simply one of the most sublime musical intervals I have ever heard with so many variations involved
