Tesla Model X Wiper Replacement - Everything Learned in Changing Tesla's Proprietary Blades Myself

  • Hi guys as you know I recently purchase a 2016 Tesla Model X P100D. The first time we got rain, I new this Tesla Model X needed new wiper blades. The Tesla Model X wiper blades were making some serious noise and streaking. This is a sign that the Tesla Model X wiper blades needed to be replaced. Thus, my journey on Friday began.
So I went to my local Tesla Cool Springs dealership for windshield wipers. I didn’t think that would be an issue. I head to Cool Springs Tesla, walk to the desk and the tech says to put my name into the system before I can even talk to anyone. I do, but thats not my jam so I go grab a coffee and talk to the sales guy. He says yeah should not be an issue you can go to your auto store to get them.
So, I leave I go to my local Auto Parts store, where they come outside, remove the wiper, and confirm they don’t carry them. Special order from Tesla only due to the integrated water jets. So I head back to Cool Springs Tesla. I never did remove my name from their system, and proceed to wait about 20 more minutes. The guy Justin comes out, a nice kid who used to work with computers.
He says they can sell me them ($76 bucks making these the most expensive wiper blades I’ve ever purchased), but they can’t install them today too busy. I’m like I can barely see so yeah I’ll take them and figure it out saying I’m sure there is a video out there. Not one good clear TH-cam video out there on this, so this is why I made this one.
It took me a few minutes to figure it out but changed them myself no issues. It would have taken the tech 5 mins to do it though (at $175 /hr).
While I love the car, Tesla Cool Springs is understaffed and experiencing some growing pains for sure. The sales guy I did speak with (who was nice but clueless on wipers for a Model X) said they delivered 33 cars that day alone. And had something like that amount or higher each day for the entire weekend. Let’s hope they open more locations this will only get much worse. He also mentioned people have been literally fighting over superchargers.
In this video, I discuss how to put your Tesla Model X into "wiper service mode". I discuss how to remove your Tesla Model X wiper blades, the tricks to release it, and the trips to install the Tesla Model X left and right wiper blade. Be careful and follow these steps closely so that you don't damage your Tesla Model X wiper blades.
Note, the Tesla Model X wiper blades are proprietary as of December 14th, 2019. No one else carries them and you will need to order them from Tesla. For me, I have a Tesla service center not that far away. The Tesla Model X wiper blades cost me $70 dollars plus tax. The good news is, you can install the Tesla Model X wiper blades yourself and I hope this video helps.
As always appreciate everyone's support on the channel as we approach 100k views as of posting time of this video. Please like and subscribe.

Thank you very much! I bought non-oem blades that I will now return and order over designed Tesla OEM wiper blades!
    Great video…thank you!

Thanks! Just today, a guy at my car wash must have accidentally put the wipers in "Service Mode" when trying to find "Cleaning Mode". The wash mechanisms ended up pulling the driver side wiper blade off of its arm. The wash management spent a good deal of time trying to fix. With your tips I was able to put it back in working order.

I actually had an appointment with Tesla Roadside Service to come out to change my damn wiper blades(!). I've now cancelled that appointment. Tesla needs to make these available to the public.

Your efforts are appreciated. My X (2020)has less than 1000 miles and my wipers are crap and no amount of cleaning or RainX has made them work better. They r still crap. So it looks like new wipers for me.

Have you ever given thought to modernizing the most ridiculous wiper system, they do a hopeless job of wetting the screen for these expensive blades. I have this idea to change it dramatically. Jets placed on the hood, redirected pipe work and runs. You will be able to buy ordinary 28” and I think the smaller is 16” wiper blades. Get good jets and have the most phenomenal screen wash that drowns the screen before your wipers go into action. Saving greatly on wiper wear!!! I really think this upgrade would be a first class move for a fabulous car? Thoughts...

Agree. Maybe they didn’t for aerodynamic reasons, but this was kind of a miss for such a forward thinking brand like Tesla.

@@Driven-Productions I think the idea was to prevent water from getting on top of the huge windshield.

If I am not wrong, the integrated water jets on these wipers are Mercedes technology. And I’m about sure Mercedes-Benz and Tesla have an agreement to share parts. You might want to look up whether you could get these from Benz for cheaper in the future.

ßaron appreciate the comment. I never thought to go to Mercedes to get wipers for a Tesla. Grant you if they had them, I doubt they would be cheaper. Mercedes parts are high end but costly.

Can you place the link as to where the buy the wiper blade from. I looked everywhere but can’t find the wiper blade for Tesla eight the water hookup

Syed Harris Kirmani I had to go directly to Tesla and order from them. They actually had them in stock at the time which was good. You could probably call a local dealership to place the order.

U should put a towel under the wipers - there are a few stories where the windshield got damaged by the sudden release from the wipers.

Talking for 10 minutes and cut video just when you do the movement that is the key?

    • @Driven-Productions
      @Driven-Productions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I mean I show the movement you need to do and where to pull the water cable, but couldn’t show it performed as its a two hand job and was alone.
