When you fitted the extension housing rear seal, was that an extremely tight fit. Mine seems to be a bout 2mm larger diameter than the receptacle in the extension housing

hi, it depends on the length of the output shaft and the diameter of the bushing that it passes through. bit like a seasaw, it moves less closer to the pivot point and much more as you move away from pivot point. some movement is normal, also the end is guided by the yoke splines and the extension housing bushing as well. hope that makes sense. cheers

Loved the video mate. So clear it was exactly what I required for my extension housing.
I have Ford Type E transmission which fits a MkII Escort. I'm doing a full resto. The car had done 85000 miles. Do I need to replace the extension housing bush. It was splined and looks relatively cylindrical.
Would appreciate your considered opinion.
The car will mostly be road going but may run at some tracks as it has mods for race purposes.

hi, make up a dolly pipe to the same diameter of the yoke on your tail shaft that slides into the extension housing bush. also machine other end of dolly pipe to about .005" oversize so you can test to see if its worn or how worn it is. to buy the tool for a one off job, probably won`t be worth it to you. ( you can email me from my channel page and select "about" for more details if you like ) if you take off the extension housing you can see and push in the existing bush as far as it can go, then measure and machine the new bush ( or just push in the new bush it should fit both sometimes) and push it into the extension housing; this way you will have maximum sized bushing support of the yoke for heavy high performance use. thanks & cheers

@@YepThatsIt Yeah no worries mate I'm in Perth so no problems there. I have a scratchy type of noise coming from the front of the tailshaft but no fluid to speakof, is that an indication of a worn bush. When will you be back at work and what do you sell the special tool for.

When just cleaning the governor in a C6 are the bushings and seals usually replaced, my 87 f150 won't go into 3rd that's the only problem? Thanks

@@YepThatsIt I've got one more question....can I run my transmission modulator vacuum line from one of the main manifold tree ports? Where the line is now there is very little vacuum pressure at all if any.

If that bushing was bad would that cause it to squeak at a very low speed when turning the shaft

just make sure all nice clean ( wire brush and blow ) before you pull anything off, you can knock seal out from inside and push bush in from outside in. cheers

Symptoms of a bad bushing?
hi, usually an indicator is sloppiness or too much lateral movement and pressure or oil leaks. often causes damage to sealing rings and cases. on that vid the worn bushing doesnt allow the rubber lip on the seal to catch up to the lateral movements, so allows leaking. cheers
