  • It’s probably safe to assume that most of us live in fairly traditional homes. However, it’s not unusual to hear about people who have built houses in trees, caves, and even underwater. But have you ever seen a house constructed out of a grain silo? That’s exactly what Reporter Maria Lundberg and Videographer Mike Oniffrey found in southeastern North Carolina.

    Thanks for the awesome story! I'm also Native and I am super duper inspired to look further into building my own dream home with my own hands too. My Dad did it so I think I should make it a tradition! Haha! This woman is a fine gal and I love her sweetness within her home and community . . . super duper cool Native American woman . . . cheers from Leona in TO, Canada . . . Peace

    Pam, might be late now, but if you need any help, suggestions or advise feel free to contact me. Side note, farmers get up set when I call my grain bin a Silo. They say it's a "grain bin". lol I came up with an agreement, If the bin is taller that the Diameter you can call it what ever you want.. lol Peace Out.

    30 foot diameter 18 foot height is 706.85 square foot of area/footprint or 12,723.45 cubic foot of volume

  • @BBBA_

    Diameter is across the widest part of a circle. Circumference is the measure of the circle.

    Where does the water supplied to the house come from?
    I think the house is neat in the fact that it is different but I would at least want a septic tank and power supplied by the grid.

      If there is mixed zoning with residential and agriculture, this would be considered an agricultural building.

    Very nice size, I have some kick AS, steps that go around the out side, to a deck with metal fire hot tub, alone with a pole to slide down, that should wake-up the neighbors.

    wonder how a house like that can be insolated concerning moistur ? could a house like that be set up in cold places like Canada? once the tin gets real cold n warms up what happens with the moisture running off the inside. I really really love this beautiful home n have bin thinking of one day doing something like that or with a sea shipping container but don't know if it would work very well in extreme cold weather .

    • @Joshua79C
      @Joshua79C 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      moisture is due to humidity, insolate means placed in sunlight, but what you apparently mean is 'insulated' and yes it can be spray foamed or if framed in can be blown in insulation

    She must have gotten the grain bin free, because there's no damn way all that cedar, solar and a 30x28 foot grain bin, plus labor, plus a 12" slab, comes in at 55,000. Just no damn way. Something fishy is going on, and they aren't telling what it is.

    • @Kube_Dog
      @Kube_Dog 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quite probably, yes. But that doesn't change the fact this silo house is a lie. $55,000? No damn way. Regardless of how she makes her money. Maybe she sucked off the guys at Home Depot and got stuff half price? No. She'd have to pay them.

    • @Savag3B0ii
      @Savag3B0ii 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Silos aren't to expensive..I found a place that delivers them and installs them with the price of the silo for less then 9000 a piece. Brand new 24ft diameter 20ft tall
