please publish the gunfighter mk3 review already!! i need a new hotas gimbal. Cant wait to see it.
I torn between the new cm3, or the gunfighter mk3. What would you choose betweeen the 2? I am planning to make it my main hotas for dcs, star citizen, msfs etc etc.. so versatility and durability are very important.
Hope you can help me with it.

Thanks for the review, would love a direct comparison MT50 CM3 + ALPHA Prime right vs VKB GF MK3 + MCGU since they are now a comparable offering (thou virpil still has pretentioning and no center cams), and only comparable on the right side
currently flying star citizen with thrust/laterals with space hard cams cams and pitch/yaw soft cams since vkb has no no center currently

Was very close to getting the WarBRD, but I really wanted clutches/dampening. Then the CM3 came out but after I added it all up and compared it to the VKB Gunfighter, the VKB made more sense, financially. IIRC, including a VKB or VPC deskmount and with comparable grips, the Virpil setup would've been 40% more expensive, all in. So I went with the GF MCG Pro - I would've considered the Ultimate before they raised its price to nearly €600 but that was out of stock at the time. After a bit of tinkering, cleaning off the rotting factory grease and putting some fresh dampening grease on there, I couldn't be happier with it. Virpil is still very much on my radar though and I do hope you'll do a side by side comparison between their stuff and the Gunfighter you currently have in for review.

I want to buy my "lifetime" hardware for the PU when the PU is out of beta and considered released, because let's face it: We have years before that happens and that means it's years for these companies to perfect their products. I want the bleeding edge gear when the game is out, not 5 years before.

@@realnaste I have a Gladiator and a 16000 throttle. My point was to wait for the most modern stick when SC releases. Those sticks will be old hat when the PU launches. Now we just need Monstertech to come out with a swivel adapter for specific sections of the chair mounts, and my dream setup will complete. The change of mounting system is not particularly useful to those of us upgrading from the CM1 or CM2, I have had to spend a lot of money to be able to mount my CM3. It is in fact still sitting in the box unused awaiting arrival of a new desk mount. Keeping the original front mounted bracket as an option would have been so much more sensible.

  • @MrAcuta73
    @MrAcuta73 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I guess I'll still get the WarBRD gimbal. Was looking at these, not sure I'd use the additional bells and whistles it includes....except the clutch is VERY tempting. Wish they could do that with an upgraded WarBRD. Just the anti-backlash if I dump the stick is totally worth it. The only Helo's I'll fly are in War Thunder....not arcade, but DEFINITELY not Sim-level controls. Would be fun AF to buzz around in a G-Lynx harassing tanks though!
My only IRL experience is with RV-7A flying aerobatics. That was a fly-by-cable and you didn't so much as move the stick as think hard at the stick. Just pressure is all you used, unlike modern hydraulic systems the force on the control surfaces was pushed directly to the stick/pedals.

got my VPC warbird bases today.. the are much bigger then i thought and the axle where the stick is attached is updated , its now silver with milled groves to prevent turning. I faded 50% out of Thrustmaster now , with left and right Sticks Virpil Mongoose t50, warbird bases and the Thrustmaster Warthog throttle and TPR Pedals.
for my Grips i waited 30days more or less but the bases arived in roughly a week. I had my right Stick at Virpil for some defective Buttons.. they send me a Video showing my Sticks serialnumber and kept my Stick in the view while turning the camera a bit..the technican showed me LIVE the testing procedure. I felt guilty for wasteing their time but was speechless about the transparency of the efford they took.
So i resumed the grip had compability issues with my left and right Warthog bases. I never regret buying there and you can very well sell their stuff if you decide to switch like me from Virpil joystick desk holders to Monstertech seat holders.. Both companys are outstanding IMHO

Currently looking into a Tobii 5 and a double Virpil Alpha Prime (also thanks mostly to your videos), but looking at the CM3 as a base as of now.

This is going to turn into a classic back and forth, but: thank you for taking the time to put out content!
I've noticed that through all the years I've been gaming (around three decades), that I've grown towards getting better gear, more suitable or built for certain situations. In my teens I used to be able to adjust a lot to the peripherals at hand (also there wasn't as much around for the average consumer), but in my twenties I've been getting slightly more comfortable equipment (ie pro controllers, mice according to my preferences and such) and now I totally understand the enjoyment and ease of having controls designed specifically for certain types of situations.
Now I'm looking forward to having a healthy life, work and game balance, first two are quite alright, the last needs to be correctly implemented ^^'

Damnit @thenoobifier. First off I’m a new subscriber and i very much appreciate your videos about flight sims. But damnit man. I’m just getting ready to dive headfirst into the whole flight sim experience. I’ve played the old school ms flight sims back in the day mainly attempted to fly helicopters with my old cheap flight stick and throttle. I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into arma 3. Mainly flying helicopters but with mouse and keyboard only. I’ve always wanted a set of rudder pedals but never but never pulled the trigger on any brand. But verpil and winwing never came into my radar until recently. I just finished building my new pc. I am really interested in dcs world. Is buying a cyclic completely necessary for dcs? Or can i get by with a proper flight stick plus throttle system? Of course i’ll be going for a good set of rudder pedals.

I am happy to help. For simulation, absolutely nothing is fully necessary. It all boils down to how much you plan to spend using it against how much it’s going to cost against how much money you have to spend. Obviously the more specialized the gear you buy, the more your simulation improves.

Im cheap af but it was worth getting these. growing up my dad had saitek joysticks and even as a kid i didnt like them cause of the lazy centering spring and puck, fast forward to my 30's and i bought thrustmaster t1600. leaps and bounds better than previous brand but they did look pretty ugly. was great till the twist axis gave out after a year. i then had a buddy talk me into virpl. 2 years later i finally got one and instantly was hooked. out the box no setting tweaks and it was perfect. 2-3 years later and still feel like day one use. I now own 2 sticks and a throttle from them. im sure these will last till my kids are old enough to use them.

I started perhaps the longest thread on Virpil's forum regarding the non-linearity of force on the CM2 between left/right and up/down. You missed it in your CM2 review though it seemed to affect anyone who took the time to measure the force. Which lead me to believe it was a defect in the original shape calculations. I switched to the WarBRD design but reports later in the thread mention it's fixed, can you confirm?

The feeling of proportional force was fixed. The CM2 and CM3 cams are slightly, visually different when placed over each other. It looks as if they “massaged” the curve to improve balance. The left side isn’t just a copy of the right.

Then this video drops, and the dry clutch on the CM3's is just perfect and a feature I have been missing from the CM2's! So those went in the cart... and then the Virpil pack discount meant it was almost a no brainer to get the new Alpha Prime grips too :P And then I have a couple of Alpha grips left over, and decided to get a Heli Collective base to use with the left hand Alpha. This was an expensive 10 minutes and 17 seconds!

Hardest part about the thing is finding where you want to put ALLL of the keybinds haha and customizing it to your liking haha.
Ngl i didnt even know they were releaaing a cm3 base and a new alpha grip but ngl i like the grips the way they are and im happy with the cm2 so ive got no complaints, + saved me some money heh

Also love the aesthetics of Virpil. One reason why i choose VKB above Virpil is the recommendations from some people saying Virpil has issues with breaking springs and cams.

It’s only really those people who decide to use the most insane spring possible. There were two streamers who should have upgraded to CM2 instead of WarBRD because they wanted so much torque... Nobody else had issues... Also, You will be happy to know I am working on VKB reviews as I type.

For Example in one of your videos you said the Mt-50 cm2 Grip felt better than the warthog since the warthog stick was much heavier? Was that maybe just because the cm2 gimbal’s cams and springs were not as strong for the heavier Thrustmaster grip?

Just wanted to put my 2c in here. Bought the CM3 for my RH in DCS to replace the Warbrd. I can't recommend this upgrade for anyone in a similar position.
My setup: VFX Grip/S-Extension/WarBrd + EXHeavy Spring.
After upgrading to the CM3: Noob is 100% correct on all his points, but the problem is 2 things for me. 1, the drag clutches have to be turned completely off to allow the fine motor skills around the center for say Aerial Refuling or whatever. 2, The maximum tension at the extremities is technically less due to the design differences. The WB pulls the spring apart so the tension increases exponentially at the extremities. The CM3 compresses the spring so I felt it go to max tension around the 90% and kind of plateu.
Customizability was next level and a great option for someone that wants to bounce between cams and springs, but as I use the same setup all the time regardless of the game it was of no benefit to me.
TLDR: It's not a good upgrade if you have no plans on utilizing the clutches, swapping cams/spring often. If you just plan to set it once and never change anything for a RH stick, I prefer the WB.
Sold it to my buddy for a LH stick in StarCitizen. It's really great, but just can't justify the money if I'm not using the features. Kinda like buying a dump truck to get a corde of wood.
    Thanks for the review!

On one gimbal, yes. You simply release all spring on the gimbal and apply drag. To reverse, reduce drag and apply tension. It works well. The easiest would be to use separate gimbals. For Eg… I have a CM3 that is only my middle cyclic and a CM2 that is for F18.
