I picked up my Constellation Alpha about a year ago and it's completely transformed my flight sim experience. As somebody not all that interested in space sims the Alpha still represents one of the best values in the high end market for flight simming as it grants almost unparalleled flexibility for a variety of aircraft and use cases. The flip trigger and the 3 stage pull is by far one of the most useful features I've encountered and I often use it as an easy weapons safe/arm feature.
Virpil made the right choice going higher end, these are the sticks I have been wanting for a few years. I wanted a metal body stick that didn't flex, especially during twist, and isn't ridiculously clunky and overbuilt like the warthog. I also like complex control schemes so all those bindings are music to my ears.
For those that are waiting for Star Citizen to be finished, don’t. Any flight simulator will benefit from having a nice stick, not just Star Citizen. Also the development for SC is going to be long and full of bugs. Theses sticks will last you the years and even decades SC is in development. Why wait to enjoy a solid stick in your hands and the precise movement they provide. The only regret you will have in getting the Alpha is if you wait till SC is released.
I get this take but I have no plans in playing SC until it's in a more mature state with persistence etc. I play no other flight sims. If SC takes another 2-3 years by then an even newer version of the alpha's will be out and I'll have more options to choose from.
That being said, I've had my Virpils coming up for close to a decade now for SC, and they've definitely made improvements since, improvements that'll cost more to replace my two old sticks.

I preferred virpil alpha's over VKB kosmosima gunfighter mk3's. Mainly because I had issues with the contacts between the base and grip on the VKB's. I'm very happy to see that virpil is just aiming higher and higher with their newest products, and I'll be looking for an excuse to buy these even though my current constellation alpha's suit my every need.
Now that I've moved back to the US and am completing my new "office" (game room), it is finally time to invest in some great dual sticks. Looks like these are exactly what I'm looking for. Now I just need to either buy or make a new desk and figure out how I want to attach these things for the best feel.
Sounds good! My biggest issue with the original Alphas is the vagueness of the 3 way hat. I'd often get accidental up and down presses when trying to press the center click. I have similar issues with the thumb hat, but not as bad. Is this addressed with the Prime? Edit: Thanks for the button number breakdown. Good to know people using Prime will still be able to use my Alpha bindings without issue.
I really like that they removed that textured part on the side of the grip. As anyone with sticks should know, if you don't clean your sticks and leave them for a few months, you'll come back to a joystick covered in sticky residue from all the gunk & moisture that gets transfered off your hands, especially if you live in a warm climate. I bought some VKB NXT Evo Galdiators - Omni Left & premium Right. I must say, the upgrade from dual T1600m was immediatley noticable. The smooth cam adjustments, large number of keybindings are amazing, but what really sold it to me, was the smooth return to centre after moving a stick to its axis margin. not fighting a stick trying to return itself to centre makes for much easier aiming. And i got both of these for less than the price of one virpil.
I’m happy for you, and I agree it’s a great stick but this statement is a bit like… “I bought a Corolla, it’s so much better than my Yaris and it was half the price of an Audi RS3” … right?
"Buy hardware first, then ships." I don't play Star Citizen, but DCS, and I agree 100%. I've so far spent over 1000€ in building my little simpit (completely DIY) and I haven't bought a single plane yet. I'm not saying I never will. Just that I'm already having SO much fun with just the Frogfoot and the community A-4 that I felt this was a better investment for now. ... and then someone gifted me the Tomcat, but that's a different story.
I appreciate how in depth this review is. I spent money on ships but flying with keyboard and mouse feels clunky and I want to try these sticks. Gotta work on upgrading my pc though first. Thanks again.
You comment about spending a bit of cash on something a) quality and b) REAL!!! (in this case some good quality hardware) vs buying a ship that won't come out for 2 years - that is probably one of the most practical things I have heard in ages. Also, kudos to the video - I just received my Prime (Serial # 0000014) - can't wait to start testing out the various cams and springs to really see how well I can tune this for my experience. One thing I will note - upgrading from the CM2 Mongoose, I do find that the pinky button on the prime is a bit harder to reach. I suppose I have medium sized hands, and will continue to work on the mounting as I think this affects where my hand sits and therefore how well I can reach it.
I love my dual Alphas, but theses Primes look even better. I wish i could get them. The castle hats are much nicer along with the side led design. Though I prefer the red button it looks cooler imo. More buttons the better even if I'm forgetting my key binds all the time as it is. Also I wasn't aware of the thumb stick cover popping off. I believe I have a later model. 12:51 Wrong, it's not the Prime specific feature, it's just default firmaware setting. The same effect on the old Alfa grip one can achieve by adding logical BUTTON32 and set it's action to "invert". I use that for opening and closing of the cover of red button on the Mi-8 cyclic. I mean when I flip up - the cover is closed, when flip down - it's open, and then pull flip trigger - fire. So the main trigger used for comm as on the real Mi-8, not for firing.
100g heavier is about where it is too. If that weight is low in the design it will have minimal impact. I think your remarks around mass are thoughtful and considered. Thank you. Having had my virpil's Alphas for 6 months and not had a chance to use them due to renovations... I'm immediately wishing I hadn't bought and was buying now with the Prime on the market. Having said that, getting Virpil product has been variably very challenging.
I use Virpil flightsticks for just about every game of every type--I don't play SC currently. Mostly HOSAM but HOSAS for rare games. Largely due to The Noobifiers videos in the past. No regrets and I appreciate the valuable review and info! Rotation axis is a must for rpgs and strategy, as I learned from the T-50CM2 (ugh, wups). My mainly complaints have been button quality--I have a Constellation Delta (L) which gets heavy use, particularly the secondard fire button. Yeah, that eventually collapsed and now unusable. For one of the bases, the cams do produce tiny amounts of metal shards--can see them with the naked eye if heavily used or magnifying glass if rare stick usage--and if you're unlucky those can end up in the greenboard control in the base. Ooops shorts, like tin hairs. Over all still happy but since these things are expensive, depending on disposable income levels and priorities, I wanted to share my impossible and I-must-be-doing-something-wrong experiences. I will likely get 1 and then another Alpha Prime in coming 12 months, for context.
I'm so glad I waited! I loved the look of the originals but I really wanted a "more premium" option. The metal and LEDs look great, but also the button quality jump seems very significant. Anyone willing to share how big their hand is and how comfortable they find the alpha? My biggest fear is not being able to comfortably reach the buttons.
I have been using the Alphas for a year and they are the best experience I have had with space sims. I use them primarily on Star Citizen. I have used Logitechs (3 different models), Warthogs, Virpil Deltas, etc. Virpil Alphas are the best . . . hands down. They have everything I will ever need (configuration options) with a quality feel and performance that makes gaming truly exciting.
Agree with the hardware comment. My only additional comment to that is, as someone who couldn't afford an Idris anyway, with a limited budget I could only upgrade to (pre-EVO base) VKB NXT Premiums (Multi-throttle on left). They'll be here for a while. They've not disappointed me yet and I've only chosen to mod the left one using their EVO Gimbal upgrade kit to have a hybrid throttle/strafe on the left hand. I have yet to do the right because I don't find an appreciable difference in feel that puts me off in anyway because it being used as a stick. Upgrading the right would be a self-birthday present but I am not pressed to do that. The only additional thing I'd want on my current grips themselves is a scroll wheel like that of the VIRPILs and they would continue to be the bargain contender to any Alpha (IMO of course). I wholly agree anyone starting out would do well to start with ANYTHING better than bargain basement or some of the other mid-grade hardware options as a non-frustrating interface experience will tend to promote continued use. +BrianMP5T *VIRPIL Controls have made a more accurate prediction of the F-14 Echo RIO grip in the Constellation ALPHA PRIME.* The Action trigger is probably a more accurate emulation of the OTTO U2-318 used by aircraft manufacturers. The flip trigger was kept, which means no need to relocate the Launch trigger.
I have the Virpil Mongoose CM3. It's a great Throttle and Dual Stick . Yes I consider it a dual stick because of the Xbox Style Mini Stick (+Push). Works great for horizontal and vertical straffing. It's also good for character movement in FPS. I use it to move forward / backwards and strafe sideways. Finally I press down on the stick to run. It works great as a left stick because precision isn't required. It also has a large assortment of buttons, switches and more. For the right stick I use VKB Gladiator Pro. I want to purchase the Virpil Alpha Constellation but I also have small hands. I really wish they would make one just 10% smaller. Even the Throttle is big for my hands but I can reach 90% of buttons and switches. Finally, I prefer my base to have switches and buttons. The VKB has 3 sliders and 3 buttons. I would like more but It's better than nothing. In the end I just want a Hotas with mini stick on Throttle and on the stick plus I want to be able to reach all the buttons. The virpil design is really good...just needs to be smaller. You have to make sure most users can reach all the buttons with ease. I really would like to see the giant hands of the people at virpil. The final must for me (which the mongoose cm3 already has) is the forward direction of Mini Stick. I want to Naturally pull up and down for verticle strafing and horizontally for side straffing.
You can make a regular Alpha work the same way the Prome appears to work via the software by changing the switch type. I have mine bound to weapons off, weapons on, fire primary from up to contact with T2. This thing looks dope though. I love the lights. But I don't think I can justify it unless something happens to my Alpha. My LS is a delta. Which I could magically transform my Alpha to a left hand and get a Prime for right. :-(
The ONLY thing i would change with this stick is the mini stick plastic surrounding it. It can be made better by copying the gamecube controllers notches in the plastic
I'm looking at the size of the grip in comparison to the A10 or the F-16. Even the f-18. The palm part of the stick is grossly oversized. I mean without holding it myself personally, it would take a very large hand to hold that and function or cycle the actuators that are attached. Hope you follow my meaning?
That's exactly what It did: investing in hardware for Star Citizen, in place of ships. But, I didn't want to buy 2 × Virpil Constellation Alpha when the game was still in Alpha. So I settle for something in between the thrust master T16000M and the Apha: VKB Gladiator NXT. I will consider the Alpha once SC hit LIVE as this is my only reason to play with joysticks. 😁 Still, there is a few nice feature I would like from the base of Virpil's base: configurable dampening.
Not sure I can justify upgrading from my alphas to alpha prime. I want to..... But I think I would rather invest the extra cash into my desk/mounting options at this point.... Review was awesome as always. I appreciate the quality content!
These are lovely if money is no object, but I more appreciate VKBs approach of bringing somewhat affordable great quality sticks to gamers. I mean you can get a Gladiator NXT, a fantastic stick with a solid base included for way less than just an Alpha Prime grip.
I just pulled the trigger on a VPC Constellation ALPHA Prime one right and one left and two VPC WarBRD Bases. Hopefully the bases I chose was worth the money I saved because the newest bases would have shot the cost over my price range. It's all on backorder. Hopefully that isn't to long.
nice update but it doesn't make the cut for me to upgrade from the previous version. A centered ministck (as on the delta) would have made upgrade though as it would make it way more usefull. but as great as virpil grips are, it's "just" a premium over the alpha, not an upgrade IMO. switch position of the center hat and the ministick and I would buy one this instant :P
10:50 Well you basically can do that in the software for the regular alpha. Just copy the button and make it inverse. So it activates when the actual switch is deactivated and vice versa
@@NOOBIFIER1337 It's 1 and 2 for me in VPC Joy Tester. Flipped up it activates 1 and flipped down, it deactivates 1 and activates 2. So you can bind different functions. Not sure if the number order stays the same after you add more buttons.
I've been using Warthog throttle and stick combined with Saitek rudders... I soooooo want to go all in on Virpil, with two mongoost bases (dropping the traditional throttle)... But MAN... it's expensive. :)
Is this controller able to be used for that free fps Gundam evolution game? Are you able to test that out? I really want to be able to use it but don't want to waste the money if it doesn't work.
It's good to see how the Prime is different from the stock Alpha. That being said, I already own L&R Alphas and i don't see enough changes to justify upgrading to Primes. My main beef with the Alpha is that the grip itself is too "girthy" which can make it awkward to use the twist axis at times, especially with a Z-extension. I've been considering changing my Rt stick to a VKB MCG Ultimate for this very reason as it looks to have better ergonomics than the Alpha. (For me at least. YMMV)
When is Thrustmaster going to compete? The warthog is only right handed and Virpil quality I think is better and offer more kinds of switch types. Really good video Noob . Great review and advice. People can spend all this money on ships and skimp on hardware.
I think the only way to go better than this is to pull a page from the Heckler & Koch playbook: Changeable grip panels to suit different hand sizes and really tailor fit that feel to the user.
Do you have a mapped layout for all your bindings? I just got two of them and the cm2 bases. It would be supremely beneficial if I had a map as the first step. "Base setup"

They kept the biggest flaw of the original Alpha. If they had turned the second button the front of the stick into another 5-way, it would have been the best grip out there for flying and waiting for SC to release.
Hey Noob, Happy New year. Can you bind Keys with the virpil configuration software? Like R- CTRL to button 32 just as an example? Or, do you need to use third party software still? Thanks!
So... 2 weeks after my two Alphas arrived, VIRPIL releases the Prime version... Oh well... Thanks for spreading the news and ruining my day... :) Seriously now, I'm kind of split because before the Alphas I was using two Gladiators NXT EVOs and although there is no debate that the Alphas feel like more "mature" choice, both when it comes to materials, build quality, bigger size etc. I'm kind of missing some features of the VKB Gladiators (especially the extra analogue slider axis on on the base of the gladiators). Another nifty feature of the VKBs I miss for the left hand is their "dry clutch" that I was using for the Y-axis with the centering spring removed. So maybe some kind of a hybrid, that would combine the best of both worlds would be the perfect choice - well... for me at least... :)
If I bought the alpha primes, would it be best to go with the t-50cm3 bases if I wanted the best or only the warbrd ? If money isn’t an issue is there a benefit by going for t-50cm3 ?
Virpil need to release another ambidextrous grip to replace the Delta and it’s about time they also added civilian flight sim grips to the military and space grips they already sell, really big market there.
Hi, is there somewhere I can see your Virpil bindings for Start Citizen? I struggle with my secondary fire at the moment, since I cannot make my mind up about which is best. For now I use the button low down on the front of the stick. Also, I struggle a bit with the strength of the springs in the base, as I find them still too strong and I find that I start to get shoulder and elbow muscle pain after a long session. BTW, I wonder if they will ever have an Omicron model :-)
I have the Alpha and it worked very well with DCS....up until recently. The 2 stage trigger gets stuck more often than i would like. If i squeeze it down to fire the cannon, and i release it, the cannon still fires away . I'd rather not take it apart, but its liiking like i might have to. It looks like the top part with the RGB can be taken off with an allen wrench. Don't know if anyone else has had this problem with regular Alphas.
@@NOOBIFIER1337 No, i got 3 sets of cams, a normal airplane with dead zone, a more stiff deadzone, and the set with no deadzone. The standard aviation ones are fine, but the other two take considerably more effort to push to the left (Only to the left) than the standard set.

My regular Alphas arrived 10 days ago, lol. I can see the Primes are an upgrade, but the regular Alphas are so good and a solid product choice that I don't feel to be the unlucky guy that bought the last batch of a product that immidiatly became obsolete. That's what happens when a top level company sells top level products made to last: their customers are not "scammed" if the new thing is released after the purchase.
I might be biased as I have two Alpha grips, but I prefer the look of the "old" Alpha. The red button, and the cleaner look on the top seems more premium to me. Good job I suppose, not looking to upgrade yet ;)
N00bifier... Are the Input Isolations on the Prime improved? With my Alphas I sometimes find it difficult to put in a up/down/left/right input on a hat without also depressing it.
The Hats are for sure better.. Not like 200% or "Perfect" you can be a bit less focused on isolating the presses. They are slightly harder to register wrong.

I personally honestly not sure if metal is better upgrade. Especially at winter, with ppl like me who have their hand easily get cold, metal grip not really a good edition.

i want more analog! i dont care for 5 ways much i prefer VKB because they produce nearly equal quality at half the price. you might think your bugatti is the top of the top cream of the crop but when i can buy a ton of groceries fit my family of 5 and still win in a race against your bugatti in my tesla for a 20th of the price! i do not like brands that use price to try and dictate quality hahahaha i do like the RGB..... VKB for life

I love the look and versatility of these but I'm too afraid to shell out this much money when they can turn out to be too big for my hands since that's exactly what happened with x55. :(
I'm not crazy about the RGB but more importantly I think the frosted plastic looks cheap. I'd argue the MCG Ultimate looks like a higher quality stick because it doesn't look like it was made by Razer.
It's removable... I reckon there could be an opportunity to scan those and reprodue them in Carbon Fibre impregnated Nylon or similar to have an amazing feel and finish.
I love my dual Alphas and though tempting to upgrade to the prime I will stick with them. Virpil makes some quality products and the Alphas are some sticks that just feel right. They have so many bindings that I rarely reach for the keyboard, when I do it’s for a rare keybind or to type a message. Nice you get an Alpha you don’t need anything else, except a second Alpha for your other hand.

It is somewhat more satisfying to use them, but standard alpha are also solid. It comes down to taste.
12:51 Wrong, it's not the Prime specific feature, it's just default firmaware setting.
The same effect on the old Alfa grip one can achieve by adding logical BUTTON32 and set it's action to "invert".
I use that for opening and closing of the cover of red button on the Mi-8 cyclic.
I mean when I flip up - the cover is closed, when flip down - it's open, and then pull flip trigger - fire.
So the main trigger used for comm as on the real Mi-8, not for firing.
I love my constellation alpha prime grip :) I use it left hand. In right hand I have a force sensitive real simulator base and a warthog grip.
100g heavier is about where it is too. If that weight is low in the design it will have minimal impact. I think your remarks around mass are thoughtful and considered. Thank you.
Having had my virpil's Alphas for 6 months and not had a chance to use them due to renovations... I'm immediately wishing I hadn't bought and was buying now with the Prime on the market.
Having said that, getting Virpil product has been variably very challenging.

The flip trigger bindings is a software function from in the firmware. I have had my original Alpha set like that for nearly a year.
Man, love it. Now if I hadn't spent hundreds on my current setup which is going to last me years.
I use Virpil flightsticks for just about every game of every type--I don't play SC currently. Mostly HOSAM but HOSAS for rare games. Largely due to The Noobifiers videos in the past. No regrets and I appreciate the valuable review and info! Rotation axis is a must for rpgs and strategy, as I learned from the T-50CM2 (ugh, wups).
My mainly complaints have been button quality--I have a Constellation Delta (L) which gets heavy use, particularly the secondard fire button. Yeah, that eventually collapsed and now unusable. For one of the bases, the cams do produce tiny amounts of metal shards--can see them with the naked eye if heavily used or magnifying glass if rare stick usage--and if you're unlucky those can end up in the greenboard control in the base. Ooops shorts, like tin hairs.
Over all still happy but since these things are expensive, depending on disposable income levels and priorities, I wanted to share my impossible and I-must-be-doing-something-wrong experiences. I will likely get 1 and then another Alpha Prime in coming 12 months, for context.
I'm so glad I waited! I loved the look of the originals but I really wanted a "more premium" option. The metal and LEDs look great, but also the button quality jump seems very significant.
Anyone willing to share how big their hand is and how comfortable they find the alpha? My biggest fear is not being able to comfortably reach the buttons.

I have been using the Alphas for a year and they are the best experience I have had with space sims. I use them primarily on Star Citizen. I have used Logitechs (3 different models), Warthogs, Virpil Deltas, etc. Virpil Alphas are the best . . . hands down. They have everything I will ever need (configuration options) with a quality feel and performance that makes gaming truly exciting.
Agree with the hardware comment. My only additional comment to that is, as someone who couldn't afford an Idris anyway, with a limited budget I could only upgrade to (pre-EVO base) VKB NXT Premiums (Multi-throttle on left). They'll be here for a while. They've not disappointed me yet and I've only chosen to mod the left one using their EVO Gimbal upgrade kit to have a hybrid throttle/strafe on the left hand. I have yet to do the right because I don't find an appreciable difference in feel that puts me off in anyway because it being used as a stick. Upgrading the right would be a self-birthday present but I am not pressed to do that. The only additional thing I'd want on my current grips themselves is a scroll wheel like that of the VIRPILs and they would continue to be the bargain contender to any Alpha (IMO of course). I wholly agree anyone starting out would do well to start with ANYTHING better than bargain basement or some of the other mid-grade hardware options as a non-frustrating interface experience will tend to promote continued use.

+BrianMP5T *VIRPIL Controls have made a more accurate prediction of the F-14 Echo RIO grip in the Constellation ALPHA PRIME.* The Action trigger is probably a more accurate emulation of the OTTO U2-318 used by aircraft manufacturers. The flip trigger was kept, which means no need to relocate the Launch trigger.
I have the Virpil Mongoose CM3. It's a great Throttle and Dual Stick . Yes I consider it a dual stick because of the Xbox Style Mini Stick (+Push). Works great for horizontal and vertical straffing. It's also good for character movement in FPS. I use it to move forward / backwards and strafe sideways. Finally I press down on the stick to run. It works great as a left stick because precision isn't required. It also has a large assortment of buttons, switches and more. For the right stick I use VKB Gladiator Pro. I want to purchase the Virpil Alpha Constellation but I also have small hands. I really wish they would make one just 10% smaller. Even the Throttle is big for my hands but I can reach 90% of buttons and switches. Finally, I prefer my base to have switches and buttons. The VKB has 3 sliders and 3 buttons. I would like more but It's better than nothing. In the end I just want a Hotas with mini stick on Throttle and on the stick plus I want to be able to reach all the buttons. The virpil design is really good...just needs to be smaller. You have to make sure most users can reach all the buttons with ease. I really would like to see the giant hands of the people at virpil. The final must for me (which the mongoose cm3 already has) is the forward direction of Mini Stick. I want to Naturally pull up and down for verticle strafing and horizontally for side straffing.
More mass on a 200mm extension is a different experience from a direct grip attachment to the base for desktop use. Much better IMO.
You can make a regular Alpha work the same way the Prome appears to work via the software by changing the switch type. I have mine bound to weapons off, weapons on, fire primary from up to contact with T2.
This thing looks dope though. I love the lights. But I don't think I can justify it unless something happens to my Alpha. My LS is a delta. Which I could magically transform my Alpha to a left hand and get a Prime for right. :-(

The ONLY thing i would change with this stick is the mini stick plastic surrounding it. It can be made better by copying the gamecube controllers notches in the plastic
Some of this Virpil gear is on my list for my dream gaming chair I hope to get.
I'm looking at the size of the grip in comparison to the A10 or the F-16. Even the f-18. The palm part of the stick is grossly oversized. I mean without holding it myself personally, it would take a very large hand to hold that and function or cycle the actuators that are attached. Hope you follow my meaning?
That's exactly what It did: investing in hardware for Star Citizen, in place of ships.
But, I didn't want to buy 2 × Virpil Constellation Alpha when the game was still in Alpha. So I settle for something in between the thrust master T16000M and the Apha: VKB Gladiator NXT.
I will consider the Alpha once SC hit LIVE as this is my only reason to play with joysticks. 😁
Still, there is a few nice feature I would like from the base of Virpil's base: configurable dampening.
I currently have dual VKB Omni Throttles, which are great. But i'll be getting a set of these Alpha Primes soon. These look dope af.
Not sure I can justify upgrading from my alphas to alpha prime. I want to..... But I think I would rather invest the extra cash into my desk/mounting options at this point.... Review was awesome as always. I appreciate the quality content!
These are lovely if money is no object, but I more appreciate VKBs approach of bringing somewhat affordable great quality sticks to gamers. I mean you can get a Gladiator NXT, a fantastic stick with a solid base included for way less than just an Alpha Prime grip.
I did mention this in the review. If you own space ships, you can afford boutique.
I just pulled the trigger on a VPC Constellation ALPHA Prime one right and one left and two VPC WarBRD Bases. Hopefully the bases I chose was worth the money I saved because the newest bases would have shot the cost over my price range. It's all on backorder. Hopefully that isn't to long.
WarBRD gimbal isn’t worse than CM3, it is just different based on your needs. I actually use those for SC anyway

nice update but it doesn't make the cut for me to upgrade from the previous version. A centered ministck (as on the delta) would have made upgrade though as it would make it way more usefull. but as great as virpil grips are, it's "just" a premium over the alpha, not an upgrade IMO. switch position of the center hat and the ministick and I would buy one this instant :P

10:50 Well you basically can do that in the software for the regular alpha. Just copy the button and make it inverse. So it activates when the actual switch is deactivated and vice versa

@@NOOBIFIER1337 It's 1 and 2 for me in VPC Joy Tester. Flipped up it activates 1 and flipped down, it deactivates 1 and activates 2. So you can bind different functions.
Not sure if the number order stays the same after you add more buttons.

I've been using Warthog throttle and stick combined with Saitek rudders... I soooooo want to go all in on Virpil, with two mongoost bases (dropping the traditional throttle)... But MAN... it's expensive. :)

Is this controller able to be used for that free fps Gundam evolution game? Are you able to test that out? I really want to be able to use it but don't want to waste the money if it doesn't work.
It's good to see how the Prime is different from the stock Alpha. That being said, I already own L&R Alphas and i don't see enough changes to justify upgrading to Primes. My main beef with the Alpha is that the grip itself is too "girthy" which can make it awkward to use the twist axis at times, especially with a Z-extension. I've been considering changing my Rt stick to a VKB MCG Ultimate for this very reason as it looks to have better ergonomics than the Alpha. (For me at least. YMMV)
When is Thrustmaster going to compete? The warthog is only right handed and Virpil quality I think is better and offer more kinds of switch types.

I think the only way to go better than this is to pull a page from the Heckler & Koch playbook: Changeable grip panels to suit different hand sizes and really tailor fit that feel to the user.

They kept the biggest flaw of the original Alpha. If they had turned the second button the front of the stick into another 5-way, it would have been the best grip out there for flying and waiting for SC to release.
I think the circuit board is saturated with inputs. It is currently at 32 and this is the limit that windows allows on one BUS.
So, when the inertia helps or fights you due to the mass, would that be called a ... Mass Effect?😉

You can use joystick gremlin to turn buttons into keypresses if you need

Seriously now, I'm kind of split because before the Alphas I was using two Gladiators NXT EVOs and although there is no debate that the Alphas feel like more "mature" choice, both when it comes to materials, build quality, bigger size etc. I'm kind of missing some features of the VKB Gladiators (especially the extra analogue slider axis on on the base of the gladiators). Another nifty feature of the VKBs I miss for the left hand is their "dry clutch" that I was using for the Y-axis with the centering spring removed.
So maybe some kind of a hybrid, that would combine the best of both worlds would be the perfect choice - well... for me at least... :)

Virpil need to release another ambidextrous grip to replace the Delta and it’s about time they also added civilian flight sim grips to the military and space grips they already sell, really big market there.
They sell MT50CM2 grip. It’s fantastic. I don’t think they will update Delta

Hi, is there somewhere I can see your Virpil bindings for Start Citizen? I struggle with my secondary fire at the moment, since I cannot make my mind up about which is best. For now I use the button low down on the front of the stick. Also, I struggle a bit with the strength of the springs in the base, as I find them still too strong and I find that I start to get shoulder and elbow muscle pain after a long session. BTW, I wonder if they will ever have an Omicron model :-)

I have the Alpha and it worked very well with DCS....up until recently. The 2 stage trigger gets stuck more often than i would like. If i squeeze it down to fire the cannon, and i release it, the cannon still fires away . I'd rather not take it apart, but its liiking like i might have to. It looks like the top part with the RGB can be taken off with an allen wrench. Don't know if anyone else has had this problem with regular Alphas.

@@NOOBIFIER1337 No, i got 3 sets of cams, a normal airplane with dead zone, a more stiff deadzone, and the set with no deadzone. The standard aviation ones are fine, but the other two take considerably more effort to push to the left (Only to the left) than the standard set.

My regular Alphas arrived 10 days ago, lol. I can see the Primes are an upgrade, but the regular Alphas are so good and a solid product choice that I don't feel to be the unlucky guy that bought the last batch of a product that immidiatly became obsolete. That's what happens when a top level company sells top level products made to last: their customers are not "scammed" if the new thing is released after the purchase.
I might be biased as I have two Alpha grips, but I prefer the look of the "old" Alpha. The red button, and the cleaner look on the top seems more premium to me. Good job I suppose, not looking to upgrade yet ;)
N00bifier... Are the Input Isolations on the Prime improved? With my Alphas I sometimes find it difficult to put in a up/down/left/right input on a hat without also depressing it.
The Hats are for sure better.. Not like 200% or "Perfect" you can be a bit less focused on isolating the presses. They are slightly harder to register wrong.

I personally honestly not sure if metal is better upgrade. Especially at winter, with ppl like me who have their hand easily get cold, metal grip not really a good edition.
It would never feel cold. Its aluminum and picks up heat fast.

I love the look and versatility of these but I'm too afraid to shell out this much money when they can turn out to be too big for my hands since that's exactly what happened with x55. :(

I'm not crazy about the RGB but more importantly I think the frosted plastic looks cheap. I'd argue the MCG Ultimate looks like a higher quality stick because it doesn't look like it was made by Razer.
It's removable... I reckon there could be an opportunity to scan those and reprodue them in Carbon Fibre impregnated Nylon or similar to have an amazing feel and finish.
I love my dual Alphas and though tempting to upgrade to the prime I will stick with them. Virpil makes some quality products and the Alphas are some sticks that just feel right. They have so many bindings that I rarely reach for the keyboard, when I do it’s for a rare keybind or to type a message. Nice you get an Alpha you don’t need anything else, except a second Alpha for your other hand.
